This is an original fanfic and i hope you like it. I have other parts
that I have and will send out later on today. This story gets a bit dark
later on, but right now it's okay. This deals with secrets, lies, death,
a little romance, betrayal, and my weird sense of humor. So I warn you
now, if you want to try my type of roller coaster get on, but if you get
queasy stay away. For all you out there I place in your honored
hands....
Running Blind [Part 1]
Beginning
"Please enter your access code and ready for scan," the sharp metallic
voice chimed as it did everyday. Moriko Yoruhana punched in her password
and stepped into the small boxlike steel chamber. A brief flash of
bright white light illuminated her short dark green hair and made her
emerald eyes sparkle. Then a thin beam of infrared light traveled down
her body, glinting off the metal guards that covered her ears, wrists,
and belt, and running off her green boots, light brown leggings, and her
green leotard. "Thank you, Moriko-sama. Please enter and take your
weapon."
She did and inspected the compact hand gun, the Lorcan 649 which sent
out a standard issue stun or kill blast using an energy crystal as a
power source. Moriko slipped in the crystal, holstered the gun, and
entered the main hall of the Jukaih Military Defense Post. She looked up
to the glass dome at the top of the twelve story building and allowed her
eyes to search each of the levels that wrapped around the central
courtyard that she was standing in. Nothing had changed the entire
twenty-one years she had been in the Defense Post. All the people were
still everywhere; running in and out offices, passing out memos, and
dashing out to a meeting they may be late for. Jukaih was a major
kingdom and its office and work staff was great, but not its defensive
players. Not many people had the guts in took to go into the dead
reality of battle. They were content to think that people went out
kicked the bad guys butt and came back, but that didnt happen. In
reality, Jukaihs defense program was set up of several two-man teams, at
least it used to be. There were around a hundred teams, or there used to
be. After one of Jukaihs major wars with their enemy kingdoms the
numbers had dropped to four or five, still they had won.
"Hey, Riko!!! Youre late, hurry up!" Ryuhi Mikazuki dashed past her,
laughing and breaking her trance. "Stop being so serious, not like were
in battle anymore and dont forget our date at lunch!"
"Hey, Ryu! No running remember?" Moriko yelled back as she ran to catch
up with her partner. "And how could I forget our little rendezvous later
on?"
She soon caught up and checked her watch, they were late. Both agents
were running, full sprint, through the narrow hallways, jumping other
employees, and yelling back their apologies. Their briefing had been set
for ten minutes ago and Mr. Tsurumi didnt like waiting. Ryu stopped and
caught Moriko as she sped by.
"Well going about this all the wrong way," he smiled and grabbed her
hand. "Were taking too long. What room is the briefing in again?"
"And you ask me as if Id forget?" Moriko teased.
"The room, Riko," Ryuhi demanded playfully.
"Oh, fine, be mean then. Its number 764-DES," she replied, trying to
get him to let go of her. "I dont know what thisll do. Ryuhi, we have
to-"
Before she could finish her sentence they were both standing outside
their commanders office door. Ryuhi smiled, smoothed back his red hair,
and knocked lightly on the door. Moriko was going to ask him how he did
that, but the large steel hatch was violently pulled open and the two
were pulled inside. Mr. Tsurumi was a tall, muscular, old, cranky
military man. His silvery hair was always neatly combed and Moriko
noticed that when he was seriously ticked, a small vein became more
visible on his forehead.
"How could you have such utter disregard for time?!" he bellowed at
them. "Ive been waiting for ten minutes and all the others are already
training!! You both are going to have some serious explaining to do!"
Moriko stared at him completely unfazed and said, "Sir, please dont
yell. Today has been a hard day for me."
"Hard day for you?!" he roared and slammed his fist down on the desk.
The small picture of his daughter jumped and fell over.
"Yes, Sir, you see." Moriko trailed off and looked at the ground.
"Speak up, Officer Yoruhana!" Tsurumi ordered and crossed his arms.
"Whats your explanation?"
"You see, Sir, its.that time and I was having a little-" Moriko
began.
"Never mind!" the chief interrupted and waved her out. "Go, just go."
