the rest...... well, the five things �in the visage of men� are
obviously GOOD guys, because it speaks of �Tep turning
them to his side, and if they were already there that�d be
unneccesary. As to WHAT they are...... well, that�s anybodies
guess. Myself, I�m going with the Elder Gods.

There's another way to interpret this, but to say more would be telling :)
The clues are there, though.

Five existing and potential EVA pilots: Shinji, Asuka, Rei, Touji,
Kensuke?  Kensuke's already become Hastur, and we've seen how the
EVAs take on the powers of the GOOs they've defeated.  In this
episode, Rei herself took on some aspects of Ithaqua.  (Which makes
me wonder: if Rei died and Gendou activated her clone, would the new
Rei have the same powers that her predecessor obtained from the GOOs
she defeated?

I really liked what happened to Kensuke in this part of COAEG.  He's
underused in the canon, and it's refreshing to have something
significant happen to him, even if it is something horrible.
