Well people here it is, My first fanfic(don't let that scare you)This
chapter might seem a bit slow but it sets up the rest of the story.  If
you have any formatting problems(such as you can't read the story) just
mail me and I'll get send it to you.  Now sit back, relax and enjoy the
show oh Kai is my charater, so in the million and one chance that
anyone would use him please ask.

 PROLUGE

Tokyo, Nerima district 7:00am

    As the sun slowly rose over the east the light hit the sleeping
form of two people. As the light hit his eyes Ranma slowly started to
blink the sleep out of them (man, it's to early to get up)  he sighed
as he realized that he would have to get up soon for the morning
classes, as he turned to wake his partner he stopped to just look at
her (God she gets more beautiful by the day), deciding to let her sleep
a bit longer he got out of bed and moved over to the window (it's been
a long road, but it's been worth it) thought Ranma as he looked back on
earlier times.  His reminiscing was interrupted by a women's voice 

"Ranma come back to bed" she said as she rolled over to face him
showing that she was leaving very little to the imagination.
  
"Ok ok I'm coming but we should be getting ready for work though" he
reminded her as he moved to sit by her side. She started to giggle

"We've got plenty of time to get ready, besides I think we need a
morning 'workout'" she gave him a seductive smile

"Henti" said Ranma with a smile "I love you Saotome Akane"

"I love you too" she said as they leaned in for a kiss
{screen fades out}

In another part of town....

(Ugh, morning already) thought the lone figure as she put the pillow
over her head.  (thats it, no more late night movie fests for me) the
woman sighed and decided she had to get up (look on the bright side,
the restaurant  finally opens up tonight) Ukyou thought as a smile
crept to her face.  After years of hard work she was finally going to
open her own restaurant and she knew it was going to be huge.  (Lunch
will be nice since it's been a few days since I've had time to really
talk to Kai, he must be missing his Fianc�e) she thought with a giggles
she moved to the window to look at the rising sun "I wonder what the
day holds for me" she said to herself as she stared at the sunrise....

Chapter 1: looking back


'Even the smallest pebble can cause a whole pond to ripple' 



(the camera pans down in circular pattern around the Tendo dojo and
comes to settle on the dojo
sounds of fighting can be heard form the inside)

"HIYAA" yelled the student as she leveled a roundhouse at Ranma, which
of course missed.

"Sian you need to keep your head up a bit higher and not lean back so
much"  Ranma said calmly as Sian threw a series of punches and elbows
hoping to tag her sensi.  Ranma causally dodged the blows then decided
to go on the offensive with a series of kicks and punches, quickly
reversing the flow of the fight and putting his student down on the
mat.  "Thats enough for today,  your defense still isn't tight enough,
your leaving to many holes for someone to exploit, but not to bad" he
said with a grin, "Well thats enough for today, class dismissed"

"HAI SENSI" yelled the class as they bowed.  They started to shuffle
out as Ranma turned around and looked outside (it's such a nice day. 
Hmm...  since I don't' have anymore classes till this afternoon, I'll
think I'll go out to the park and maybe some lunch) and with that
thought he headed for the showers.

(scene fades out and then fades in to the inside of the Ucchan)

(Thank the Kami this is almost done) thought Ukyou as several people
ran around putting the finishing touches on the restaurant for the
grand opening later in the evening. A few minutes later a ring brought
her out of her thoughts (I wonder who that could be?) she thought as
she walked toward the phone,  "moshi moshi"

"Hi love, guess who?"  

A smile found it's way onto her face as she said "Kai, where are you?
your supposed to be here now so we can go to lunch"

A sigh answered on the phone "I know we made plans but something came
up here that I have to finish now, I'm sorry honey but I'll still be
able to come tonight I just have to finish this now"

Trying to keep the disappointment out of her voice Ukyou answered "It's
ok I understand we all have our work today, well I wouldn't want to
keep you any longer then so I'll see you tonight"

"Thanks for understanding, I love you"

"Love you too" said Ukyou as she hung up the phone.  (Well I'm not
going to let this ruin my day) she thought determinedly, "Konatuse I'm
going out for a walk, watch the place while I'm gone"  

"Yes Ukyou-sama"

Ukyou sighed as she heard that, ever since she had helped him get off
the street he had been calling her that
"Kou-chan for the last time, just call me Ukyou"

"yes Ukyou-sama" Ukyou wanted to tear her hair out, or his, but just
shook her head and walked out the door.

(A bit later at the park)

As Ranma worked his way though another kata he thought how nice this
was (I love training by the pond, it's so calming, even if I have an
audience again)  He didn't do this too often but when he did a few
people tended to stop and watch him go through his  katas, some of them
even became his students because they wanted to learn how to do them as
well.  (It's not a bother and it helps the Dojo) and with that thought
he decided to give stop for a bit and relax.  He looked up at the sky
as a smile appeared on his face (man life is good).

Ukyou was walking around the park simply enjoying her private time
(this is kinda nice, I should take walks by myself more often) As she
keep walking she noticed a crowd of people of by the pond and decided
to go and see what all the fuss was about. As she neared she noticed a
young man doing a series of katas.  (He's rather handsome, but why does
he seem that familiar?) She frowned as she thought that,  she knew him
form somewhere, of that she was sure, but were?  She walked up to one
the bystander to see if they knew who that man was.  "Excuse me miss?"

"yes" said the attractive young lady

"um, I was wondering if you knew who that man is?"

"Oh thats Saotome Sensi"

A light went off in Ukyou head as a child hood memory came to mind (no
it couldn't be, not after all these years)  "Saotome Ranma of the
Saotome school of anything goes martial arts?"

"Yup one and the same,  He's been my sensi for a year now, best teacher
I've ever had!" she said with pride

Ukyou said thank you as she made her toward Ranma (I think it is him!)
she thought as she got closer.
as she got to him she cleared her throut  "Are you Saotome Ranma ?"

"Yea" said Ranma as he turned toward the voice (She's cute, but why
does she look and sound so famlir?)
"Do I know you?" 

"Didn't you travel alot as a kid?"

"yea" Ranma said trying to see where this was going.

"Didn't you stop in Kyoto for a year?" she said her eyes showing mirth

"Yup, um, is this going anywhere?"

 She seemed to ignore his question "You haven't changed a bit have you
Ranchan" that last word was said with a smile.

(Ranchan???... only one person ever called me that..!?)  Ranma eyes
grew wide as everything clicked together "UCCHAN" he yelled as he swept
her up into a bear hug "oh my god it's been years, how have you been,
what have you been up to, when did you move here, how's your..."

Ukyou pressed a finger to his lips "One thing at a time Ranchan, I see
you still like to rush right into things" she giggled "look I was going
to have lunch, why don't' you join me and we can catch up on old time."

"Great I haven't eaten yet" and Ranma's stomach growled as that was
said

"Yup, you haven't changed one bit" she said giggling again  "Hey...."
he said as he started after her

(Camera pan to the cafe)

"....And then my dad died a little over a year ago"  Ukyou said the
hurt evident in her eye's as Ranma cursed himself for not staying in
touch and being there to help her. Something he silently vowed would
not happen again.

"I'm sorry Ucchan, From what I remember of your dad he was a good man"
Ranma said putting a reassuring hand on his friends shoulder.

"It's ok, I've delt with it, Kai helped out alot with that" 

"Who's Kai?" Ranma asked with a questioning look on his face

"My fiancee, we met just after my dad died, he was in Kyoto for
bisness, he helped me heal and then when he came back here I sold the
Yatti and moved down here,"

"Well anyone who can help you through that must be a good guy"

"The best" Ukyou said with a smile.  "So whats been happening in your
life?"

"Well after the last time I saw you we went over to china for a while,
did some more training, then dad brought me back here and took me to
the Tendo dojo where I found out that he had arranged a marriage for
me"  Ukyou gasped "I didn't think anyone did that anymore"

"For the most part no, but pop had other ideas.  Thats when I met
Akane" a warm smile formed on his face as he countinued  "We fought
quite a bit at first,  but after a few adventures and some growing up
we got past that and now we're married, it's not perfect, we still have
some fights but I wouldn't give it up for the world, right now she
works at Musihia tech in the PR department while I teach at the dojo"  

"Looks like your pretty happy" she said that with a look in her eye
"Any kids yet?"

"Nope not yet, ,me and Akane don't think were quite ready to have kids
yet,  but someday.  So what are you doing?"

"Oh I'm opening a restaurant here,  I named it the Ucchan as a matter a
fact.  The grand openings tonight.  why don't' you and Akane come? I'd
love to meet her and you can meet Kai."

"That be great"  Ranma said as he looked at his watch  "Well I've got
to be going cause I've got a class soon."

"All right I'll see you tonight Ranchan" she said as he got up and
kissed her on the cheek 

"Later Ucchan" said with a grin and a wave.

(Later at the Tendo dojo, after last class and Akane comes home)

"Ranma I'm home" said Akane as she walked in the door

Ranma came up and give a hug and a long kiss "I love you, you know
that?"

"Well you must have had a good day.  What happened?" Akane said with a
smirk

"Do I need to have a good day to give my wife a hug and kiss?" 

"Out with it Ranma" she said as she got that gleam in her eye.

Ranma sighed "Ok ok, but your not going to believe who I saw today. 
Remember I told you about the time me and pop stayed in Kyoto for a
year?" Akane nodded her head "Well I saw my best friend at the time,
Ukyou, And she's got a restaurant and the grand opening is tonight and
we're invited to go" 

"Sure sounds like fun, I'd like to meet your best friend" said Akane as
she started to think about what to wear."I hope the foods good."

"If she's half as good as she used to be the it's going to be great." 
Ranma said with confidence.

"In that case I can't wait, we need to get dressed but maybe we should
take a shower first" Said a Akane with a twinkle in her eye.

"I think we've got time for that" and then he mummbled softly"Henti"

"Ranma no baka" but both insults were said with love as they moved
upstairs


(pan form sky to front of Ucchan)

Ukyou breathed a sigh of relief as she handed the grill over to
koutouse, while he wasn't as good as she was he was still more the good
enough to handle the orders, and she went out to mingle with the crowd
and see what they thought.

"You shouldn't look so worried, everything's going fine" said a young
man who put his arm around her, he was about 6', and slim with dark
brown hair and eyes.  "Just relax, things couldn't be going better" she
sighed "ok I'll try to relax"(I wonder were... Oh there he is, that
must be Akane next to him) "Ranchan, over here"

Ranma and Akane walked over to the couple "Hi Ucchan" they gave each
other a hug then Ranma turned to Akane "Ukyou, this is my wife Akane,
Akane, Kounji Ukyou "

"Nice to meet you Kounji-san, Ranma's told me so much about you" said
Akane with a warm smile

"Same here, but there's no need to be so formal, call me Ukyou" she
said with a warm smile

"Likewise then, your right there's no need to be so formal with
friends"

"Oh this is my Fiancee, Surmi Kai" Ukyou noded her head the man behind
her 

"Just call me Kai" he said with an easy smile "So this is who Ukyou has
been talking about" he was appraising Ranma as Ranma did the same,  he
shook Ranma's offered hand.

"Hope it was all good stuff she said" 

"Don't worry Ranchan I haven't told any of your embarrassing stories
yet."  Ukyou said with a smirk

"I'm sure they would like to hear about some of yours too Ucchan" Ranma
said with a grin to match Ukyous

Akane started to  say something "Why do you call each other those
names?"  

"There just names we gave each other when we were small, thats all"
Ukyou said crossing her arms, "Anyway you guys go and sit down and I'll
go whip us up something form the grill"

"You don't have to do that Ucchan" Ranma said as he pulled out the
chair for Akane

"Don't worry about it, I love to cook remember? and sides this is a
special occasion"  she said as she turned around and went off

"You haven't changed much either" Ranma said softly

"So how long have you two know each other Ranma?" ask Kai

"Well we met when my pop took me to Kyoto, I was about six and we
stayed for about a year,  it's funny but at first I thought she was a
boy" as he said that Kai looked at him wide eyed while Akane was
muttering about bakas "hey we were little kids ok, not that much
changed after I found out, she was still Ucchan as far as I was
concerned.  After  we left we stopped by once in while just to say hi,
the last time I saw her was just before I went to train in China, we
exchanged a few letters after that and then lost touch till we ran into
each other this morning."

Kai seemed to be in thought "well she..." he was interrupted by Ukyou
as she walked to the table carrying several Okonomoyaki

"Every body get ready for the best Okonomoyaki you've ever eaten, and I
even made extra for you Ranma cause I know your appetite hasn't
changed" they laughed while he tried to glare at them, then gave up and
started to chuckle too.  Then he grabbed a glass of wine and raised it 

"To the Ucchan" he said and then Ukyou raised her glass as well 

"To good friends and new beginnings" she said as their glasses clinked
and they sat down and got to eating, drinking, and talking......(fade
to black)
