Sorry, request denied. We're discussing whether the
characters' actions
in this story were believable, which is a legitimate
topic of C&C. And
if you don't want opinions on a certain topic
discussed on the list, you
should start by not posting your own opinions on the
topic to the list.
I guess it was selfish of me. I was trying to
avoid making a never-ending discussion, but I can't
stop people from expressing their opinions. Mr. Kleppe
and those that were offended by my post, please accept
my apology.
Of course, I still don't agree with what Mr.
Kleppe said... ^_^
I for one don't have a problem with a never-ending discussion. I'm
taking the middle ground in this one. I thought the characters in the fic
were majorly OOC. The Ranma 1/2 characters can barely kiss one another, let
alone have sex. Unless of course all it was just a kiss and our sick minds
just assumed the wrong thing.
Also, while I do agree that there is no way Ranma's friendship with
Ukyou could be stronger than his love for Akane, but it isn't as weak of
Gary Kleppe made it sound. Ranma hardly ends up eating at the Nekohanten
when he's got problems(there are example, but they escape me at the moment).
I'm not saying that he feels the need to always confide in Ukyou. He
does, however, go to her place to get away/think/brood about his problems.
That automatically puts her friendship above Shampoo's.
When did Ranma intentionally go the Ucchan's when he had problems? I
don't recall any examples. Although you are right in that he never confides
in Ukyou. Her first meeting with Shampoo is proof of that.
The friendship with Ryouga, which I think does exist and is greater
than Shampoo's, is a little harder to judge. Ranma and Ryouga kind of have
this kindred spirit thing. They both struggle to be the best(regarding
who's better is another never-ending discussion I wouldn't mind having),
have trouble expressing their feelings, and have faced a lot of adversity
through their lives. I'm not exactly sure how far each acknowledges this
friendship(never-ending discussion#3), though, so I'll have to give the nod
the Ukyou's friendship again.
Frankly the only real evidence of Ranma's friendship to any of them is
his willingness to help them, and put up with all the violent and/or
underhanded things they try to do to him and Akane.
I know Ranma doesn't treat her all that well and tried to rid of her
during that Sauce story. I, personally, think that he didn't hate her
presence. He just didn't like the atmoshpere it caused in the Tendo
household and Akane's reaction of course.
There are also two reasons he can't act all buddy-buddy with Ukyou.
The first is that he isn't all that good at expressing loving
emotions(friendship or love). I mean, consider how he treats Akane some of
the time and he loves her. The second reason is that everyone else would
Well in Akane's case part of his treatment is his fear of being in
love, part is his awarness that if he can get her mad she cares about him, and
of course you can't forget his natural mixture of Selfishness, Tactlessness,
and impatience with thinking anything through.(Note the last applies to
everyone.)
have a fit if he spent a lot of time with Ukyou, especially Akane and her
father.
Of course except for the not so well documented free food theory
there's not a lot of reason he would want to actively seek out Ukyou's
company. Are there any examples of him seeing her without an ulterior
motive(Including food)
