Well, as it seems popular to do so, here is my report about AnimeExpo99.
Thursday: Got up too dang early in the morning. 2:30am is meant for sleeping, or writing really weird fan fics. The rest of my club was supposed to show up at 3:45 and we were supposed to be on the road at 4. Of course this being an anime club we were gone by 5.
Started the looooooooong drive from Reno, Nevada to LA. Nothing like a car full of otaku singing 'Blame Canada' off key to make you wonder why you are doing this to yourself. BTW, has any of you ever been put on hold for 10 minutes while driving at 90+ mph? Lots of fun.
Checked into the motel and then went to the nickel arcade that a club member found. Went to dinner and almost ate the waitress. Food took a long time in coming.
Friday: Started off the day bright and early, waiting in line. God that line was long. After finally getting through registration, we moved to opening ceremonies. After about 1 minute, we all figured out that we shouldn't have come. The only good thing was the introductions of the GoH. (Looooooove Yoko!) A word to the wise, if they do dancing from UC Irvine, don't watch.
Headed out to lunch, followed by the dealer's room. Figured out in a few minutes that I had too little money on me. Decided to get a ticket to the Meet the Guests dinner. That's why I only showed up at the FFML dinner for just a few minutes. Sorry, but I really like Yoko. Her music was one of the reasons I made it through last semester.
Entered into the Anime Trivia contest and won!!! Not the grand prize, but I don't have a DVD player so a complete set of Record of Lodoss War would be fairly useless. Now having my way paid to AX2000 now...
Saw the first five minutes of Tenchi Forever and walked out. Couldn't take the dubbing. Went to the dinner and finally went back to the hotel after crashing a few parties.
Saturday: Went to the Yoko panel and recital. Man that was a lot of fun. Saw a whole lot of anime, some of which I wish I didn't see. I came to the conclusion that Happosai would like Aika. I counted 139 panty shots during just ONE episode. Finally got to see Tenchi Forever subbed. Loved it, it was mild and a bit sad.
Went to the fan fic panel. Met quite a few FFMLers and sat in what turned out to be a bunch of long spam threads. Really wished that Tybalt could have shown up and stopped the SI debate. Waited around for the costume contest. Saw some anime. Waited to see the costume contest. Saw some anime. Waited to see the costume contest. Saw some anime. Waited to see the costume contest. Saw some anime. Waited to see the costume contest. Saw some anime. Finally the bloody thing started. Have to give a hand to the tech people though, I'm told they did a six-hour set up in two.
Finally went to the hotel and crashed.
Sunday: Last minute shopping day. Spent more money than I should have, including my lunch and dinner money on the way back. Oh well. Saw some more really good anime. Including Mini Ah! My Goddess. (Skuld is so kawaii!) Left AX and headed back to Reno with the lunatic group that's my club. The only thing of note was that we decided that Fresno was a roving black hole that is almost impossible to get out of.
Total loot: Skuld pencil, Skuld pencil board, Dirty Pair video, lots of posters, (There goes my wall and ceiling space) Tylor CD, End of EVA CD, Rei cell, and a CDROM. Plus lots of memories and pictures.
Good anime seen: Mini Ah! My Goddess! Video Girl Ai, Lain, Tenchi Forever, Gundam Stardust Memories, El Hazard Alternate World, Memories, The Adventures of Kotetsu, and (Hate to admit it) Sailor Moon SS.
Anime that wasn't so good: Special Agent Aika, (139 panty shots!) BGC2040, (If you like the original BGC at all, don't watch. I almost cried when I saw what they did to Sylia and Nene) and Delinquent in Drag.
And of course now that AX is over, and I've caught up on my sleep, I can't wait until next year!
