Before I say anything, let's not start a character
debate in FFML, okay? If you want to noisily disagree
with me, do it privately.

Sorry, request denied. We're discussing whether the characters' actions
in this story were believable, which is a legitimate topic of C&C. And
if you don't want opinions on a certain topic discussed on the list, you
should start by not posting your own opinions on the topic to the list.

talk openly about them
in this is just not something I can believe. And
considering that he was
unable to kiss either Shampoo or Akane, when both
times he believed a
cure for his curse to be the reward, I can't see him
kissing Ukyo just
because he wanted to give her a consolation prize.

I can. This fanfic is very serious, while Ranma 1/2
is a slapstick comedy. When you change the tone of
the story, a little character modification is
inevitable. Canon Ranma appears insensitive because
serious romance is NOT what RT was aiming for.

I can accept a *little* character modification. I didn't see this
story's as being little in any sense. Without any hesitation, Ranma did
something that in the manga was anethema to him, and moved on from
there.

If so, that's ridiculous. There's nothing in the
manga to indicate that
Ranma's friendship with Ukyo is any stronger than
his friendship for
Shampoo or Ryoga, let alone his feelings for Akane
which were
established many times.

Again, I must disagree. Ranma is a type to care
even for his enemies and troublemakers.

Care for them, yes. But not nearly to the extent of doing what he did in
this story.

Look at volume
19; his friendship for Ukyo is very obviously deeper
than for Shamps or Ryoga.

Sorry, wrong. Ranma in that story was motivated by his guilt over the
fact that he'd ruined Ukyo's secret sauce. Even then, he clearly wanted
to get rid of her -- that's why he pretended to be married to Akane, and
subsequently tried to drive her off by acting like an abusive husband.

While it's not Ranma's fault, Ukyo IS hurt.
Shouldn't he help her out a little as a friend?

A little, sure. Give her the ol' pep talk. Try to fix her up with
someone else, maybe. What he did in this story wasn't little.

Geeze, why am I even defending R/U relationship
when I'm against it?

Don't ask me.
