Sure!  This was one of the few stories I read in high school that I
actually liked.

Well, it depends what angle you want to pursue this.  If you want to be
silly, you could have the 'unfortunate' be Nuku Nuku.  Just think.

Hunter:		I have brought you here to participate in my little Game...
Nuku Nuku: 	Yay!  Game!  You want to play with me?
Hunter:		Er...yes.

Hunter(in cast):Let's try this again.  You are here to participate

(Hands mouse to Hunter, which promptly bites him on the nose)

NN(aiming fist at mouse): Okay!

Of course, if you want to be serious, then IMHO Akane is your best choice. 
Her motivations and protests that she is 'a martial artist too', along
with the fact that she's the one who's always kidnapped and has never had
the change to fight before, and you have the perfect character for shock,
and character development. Also, any one of the other main chars could
easily swim to shore, or escape detection via curse, but Akane can't swim.
Finally, any of the regular cast is more likely to just go charging and
beat the guy up (and succeed too, whether he has a gun at the time or
not), but Akane's skill level would prohibit her from doing so, and would
force her to use her wits to survive, which is what I assume what you want
to do in this fic. 

I would argue against any of the noncom characters as the victum.  Kasumi
would just fall apart (no, she's not the secret genius behind the Dojo.
That honor goes to the cats next door), and the only thing we ever see
Nabby shoot is a camera.  Gos or Sayuri just don't cut it.  Unless Gos
gets his mail order power armor?  ^_^

A more interesting idea would be the identity of the industrialist.  Not
necessary (the original story never put a name to the man, if I recall
correctly), but you may or may not want to depending on your writing
style.  If you're doing this for a laugh, my suggestion is to use Ward
Cleaver, from Leave It to Beaver.  If not, then there are plenty of people
in anime to choose from.  I would suggest someone cold, though not
necessarily evil.  I think someone like Iczer-2 from either Iczer OAV
series(there are minute characterization differences) would be perfect, if
the timelines or power levels were even remotely close to each other.
Having someone like Jinnai would just ruin the mood.

You may or may not wish to look at your motivation, as well.  Guns are a
big no no in Japan for civillians, so any person who's hanging around that
island with one should have a pretty good reason to be there.  After all,
there are humans all over the place, so what's to stop him from going to a
place like Chad or Botswana?  How about someone with a hate for Japanese
in general?  Perhaps it's an old WWII vet with long memories, or someone
who's family suffered during the occupation of the Japanese on their
territory?

The sardines weren't worth the trouble.  A few more shots, then 
Ryoga-san would overheat and explode.  Ducking around a corner, 
I managed to lose him as I entered the ramshackle residence of 
my Anime supplier.
