Fundamentals was intended to be a two-parter.

Some people have requested that it be extended.

 Two of them.

There will be an epilogue; and If it is requested by enough prople, it may
well be continued. Major factors in this will be the quality of people who
ask for a continuation: If Andrew Huang, John Biles or Chris Angel were to
ask, a continuation is practically guaranteed. (A compliment from them is
practically a gift from heaven, to me.)

First of all, I'd like to say that most people consider actively fishing for
compliments to be a tad bit tacky. However, that's neither here nor there at
the momnet, so....

Anyway, I decided that a new threat was needed, one that was entirely
human
in origin. One that was more dangerous to the pilots than the Angels
through
 its omnipresence.

A few coments of my own to add:

"Fundamentals" is a classic example of good potential that doesn't pan out,
especially in the first part. Things are compressed, rushed even at times.
Also, you don't really take the time to flesh out your original concepts;
some more background/exposition on the Church would have been welcome, and
the whole "children carrying guns" deal needed to be furthur explored. Also,
the firefight; this scene, while intriguing, is in SERIOUS need of an
overhall. Shinji goes OOC all through it, and while this can fixed with good
internal monologues and other expository stuff, you fail to deal with it
beyond the cliched "adrenaline letdown" bit at the end.

Also, a couple technical bits; the treatment of the NERV staff. First of
all, one does not worry about being executed for incompetence in the
military: one worries about being executed for treason. General
What's-his-name is never even in any REMOTE danger of being put up against a
wall and shot for his failure to contian the berserk Eva; at ABSOLUTE worst,
he'd be cashiered, and likely not that; one doesn't get rid of ones highly
skilled career officers for one snafu, especially when they do everything
possible to contian it. Also, when Gendo "liquidates" the staff at NERV-UK;
one ALSO does not either have killed or fire (depending on what you meant by
liquidate) an entire branch of ones organization to catch a few moles. first
off, where is he going to get the skilled labor to replace them? Secondly,
Gendo does NOT have that kind of authority to just chuck several thousand
people out of work because he feels like it. He's not omnipotent, you know.
He answers to the U.N. He answers to the Insturmentality Committee. He
answers to SEELE. Likley, all three of them would have to approve something
like this before it went down.

HOWEVER:

Lest you think I'm being overly negative about your story, let me just say
that I found parts of it to be INCREDIBLY good. Part 2 (excepting the fight
scene and lack of explanation for just how the HELL Eva-06 got to Japan) is
one of the very best things I've read lately. Your dialogue is believable,
your characters are realistic, and this is one of THE most intriguing
concepts I've seen in Eva fanfiction to date. On a pure writing standpoint,
your prose is well-formed and coherent, with very few grammatical ideas, and
it gets your ideas across quite well.

In short, this piece is the proverbial "diamond in the rough" with some work
and cleanup and polish, it could be DAMN good. Right now, it's simply
mediocre, which sounds bad but is good compared to some of the utter schlock
I've seen clear the list.

And I _would_ like to see this continued; realistically, expecting a cult to
fold after one setback that leaves most of the cult alive and well doens't
quite work. They'd try again. And again. And again. Crazed cultists are
persistent like that.

But, enough of that: I have to get back to the scene where Misato picks
her
car back up from "Grand Theft" Otto's.

<facefaults> Oy vey.....
