Subject: [SM][FanFic] Something About Sally
Suddenly, the scene froze and an eerie feeling stole over Pyrite.
He spun around to face a slivery-skined android wearing a gold
and black uniform.
"'It'll be no problem'," parroted the andriod, "What a crock."
KWW> This was a great way to break it to us that we must be in a dream
sequence.
Pyrite started to remove one of the computer access panels when
the communicator on his belt started chiming. Pyrite flipped it
open to confronted by the image of a troubled Rei.
"Pyrite, could you get down here immediately? All our Palace
video feeds just went on the fritz!"
KWW> And at this point I'm thinking "Oh Shit..."
*Sally _is_ Ami's and my child.* was all Pyrite could think as he
sank to the floor. *I'm toast. After Azurite finds out about
this, my remains won't fill a thimble.*
KWW> I think there should have been a follow-up scene to this. "Okay Pyrite,
I'll let you try and explain this to me one more time..."
Sally was particular satisfied that she had a good view
for lip-reading; quite an invaluable skill really.
KWW> Open the pod bay doors please Hal. Hal? Hal...?
"In other words," interrupted Serenity, "she's as much of a
person as you or I."
That brought Ami up short. "Er ... I guess you could put it that
way."
KWW> Great way of showing how Usagi/Serenity always cuts right to the heart
of the matter.
"You weren't being yourself. You said and did exactly the right
things to convince each of them to agree to let you stay here."
KWW> I would have to think that the others would have similar suspicions,
unless Sally's profiling of them was *very* deep and precise. The other
thing we have to wonder is whether Sally is also telling Serenity what she
wants to hear...
Silence descended upon the room as the image of Sally stood still
watching the door. "OK, you can come out now." Sally called out.
KWW> At this point I was expecting anything up to and including Death
Phantom. I mean, like they said, nobody really *knows* anything much about
Sally...
KWW> This was an intriguing story for a variety of reasons. The way each
character reacted to Sally was very telling. Rei was suspicious, but
ultimately willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. Ami and Pyrite
treated her in slightly different proportions as a scientific wonder, a
personal achievment, a potential threat, and a little girl. Serenity just
accepted Sally as what she was, but still treating her with enough respect
to tell her when she had done something wrong. Also, everybody in this story
had their little secrets. Pyrite was not up front about the self-doubt his
dream revealed, even to his wife. Serenity did not tell the others about
Sally's little mind games. And Artemis' motivations for intervening on
Sally's behalf are suspect. All this makes us wonder what other secrets
Sally herself holds. Whatever the case, I hope she shows up in future SME
stories.
