[Author's Notes: I am going to try to sort out another one of the mysteries
in Final Fantasy 7. We all know that Zack died, those who played this game
anyways, but how did he _REALLY_ die? We think we do, but there is just
no freaking way that a 1st Class Soldier can be kill by a couple those tiny
Shinra guards! I'm not sure if anyone has also done this. I've only seen
a couple that explain what happened to Zack, but the ones I read were more
of alternate destinies. If you know of one, please I notify me. I would
appreciate to see how they picture the scene. The dialogue isn't exactly
from the game.

The Beginning of My End

Phase 1 - Zack


"SEPHIROTH!!" I screamed in anger. All of these innocent
people, the entire town...dead! He'll pay for their deaths! I bolted
up the mountain path as quick as I could; the heat of the flames began
to soften. I see a young weeping girl racing ahead of me into the Mako
reactor. It's the mountain guide from before. I catch a glimpse of her
fury on her face and realise what she's going to do.

//...Jenova...my mother's name...these SOLDIERs...//

"No! Wait!" I plead, but she's to far ahead to even notice.
I climb down into the reactor, I see the girl crying over he a mans
body. Her father's body. She glares up furiously at me, startling me,
and grabs the Masamune resting beside her deceased father. The girl runs
into the room with pods. "Wait!" I plea again.

//...was I born like this!?//

But it's too late. As I dash into the room, her body flies down the
stairs. I notice that she has a large gash at the side of her
abdomen. I glance down at the girl one more time in sympathy, before I
glare at the spot where her attacker was. "You'll pay for this Sephiroth!"
Unsheathing the Buster Sword, I run towards my doom not caring what the
odds are. Though, deep inside, I know the end is coming.

//...traitor...//

"Sephiroth!"

He glances back at me irritated. "Oh, it's the traitor."

I close my eyes and try to calm my fury, but to no avail. He calls
me a traitor!? How could he do this to us?! How could he do this...to me?
I thought I knew him...My eyes, near tears, glare back at Sephiroth. I know
at
this moment that I am going to die soon. "Die!" I swing my sword at him in
fury.
Our swords clash, and we battle for the upper hand. Sephiroth is winning. I
knew
he'd be winning. He was always stronger than me, no matter how hard I
trained.

//...your are...//

"Fool." He hits my sword to the side and uppercuts me with the Masamune. I
stumble back down the stairs and land on one of the pods in agony. I can't
move.
There's nothing I can do. There world still upside down, I look for an aid.
Nothing. The girl is still lying on the stairs, unconscious. But wait, I see
another figure coming...it's that boy, Cloud! He glances down at the
mountain
guide sadly and begins to move her body, murmuring a few words of comfort.
He
must have like, I thought.

"C-Cloud..." I stutter. He looks up to me with tears streaming down
his cheeks. "T-Take my sword...stop him..." He nods, then everything around
me begins to darken. Cloud's comforting of the young guide brings me to my
last
thoughts. This sweet young flower girl I met in Midgar. I close my I eyes
and
wait for Death's grasp to embrace me.

I can still feel myself. I am not dead. Why? I open my eyes and found
the answer. Hojo.
