Recently, I came across a Ranma/Ah! My Goddess crossover fic and I

saw

Akane being refered to as Goddess of Destruction. Then I starting to
wonder, "Goddess of Destruction"? I thought heaven was suppost to

be,

well, you know, all holy and stuff like that! Then I thought Mars

the

God of War, Loki the God Mischief and such. I don't get it. Aren't
those things more Hell-like are something? So wouldn't there be
something like the Demon of War or the Demon of Destruction?

I'm confused. What's the roll between Heaven and Hell? The more
Ah!/Oh! My Goddess fics I read, the more confused I get!

When you examine these destructive non-christian gods, the thing you
have to remember is that they *are not christian*. The normal good/evil
contrast simply does not apply.

In the case of Mars/Ares, he was just one of many drunken louts. I mean,
the chief god of the greeks turned himself into a swan to seduce young
maidens despite being married. Hardly moral by modern standards, Clinton
notwithstanding.

And Loki, he was as close as the norse gods got to a god of
*intelligence*. The norse were famous warriors, but they didn't exactly
prize thinking ability, so naturally, a character who outsmarted his
opponents rather than clobber them into the ground would be regarded
with more than a little mistrust.

AMG! has absorbed norse mythology with the norns, but then has also
absorbed the christian mythology with a tangible evil force for the gods
to oppose. The nearest the norse had was the eternal war against the
frost giants and the fire giants, but they already knew they were going
to lose that one anyway. The overall mythology of AMG! doesn't make much
sense.

having said that, if you have a fic idea, just write it, and if it is
good enough, peopel will forgive any mythological changes you may need
to make.

Personally, I see Loki as the norseman who said 'sure,it may be heroic
to kill him in armed combat, but isnt it safer to kill him in his
sleep?'
