** Pok Moon **
** A Sailor Moon / Pokmon crossover **

Narrator: Ash Ketchum, Pokmon Master, is training in the Cosmic Elite
League to win the right to become one of the Elite. His attempt to get
the Aries Badge went poorly, and his Squirtle was barely defeated by Rei
Hino's Ninetales. Will Ash try again, or give up in defeat?

===============================
	   ** Part 4 **
ASH: Rei Hino, the Fire Warrior
===============================

Mamoru came in with the evening meal to see that Ash was moping outside,
on the balcony. He put the tray down and came out to meet him.

"Hey, Ash," said Mamoru. "How did you do in getting your first Cosmic Badge?" Ash let out a sigh and collapsed in a chair which was placed conveniently nearby. Mamoru went and put a hand on his shoulder. "You
lost, didn't you? Don't worry, the Cosmic Leaders are rather tough."

"But Rei was...was...-heartless-!" said Ash dejectedly.

"Like me towards Usa--oops!" Mamoru laughed a bit. "Sorry. I brought up
a memory that should have long ago." He thought about how he had needled
Usagi many times before in the distant past, before he and Usagi found
about their destined love for each other.

"Sorry," said Ash. "I was thinking about what Rei said. She told me
I was a wimp. Maybe I am." He showed the badges he had gotten. "I've
got a heavy confession to make - I didn't gain all the badges by normal
combat. Brock and Misty gave me their badges in pity - actually, Misty's
sisters gave the Cascade Badge. Sabrina couldn't be defeated by combat,
so I had to have a Haunter make her laugh, and Team Rocket interrupted
the match in Celadon Gym. I might have won, but then I had to rescue
Erika's Gloom from the burning Gym. I did and she gave the badge up."

Mamoru shook his head and smiled. "Ash, Misty and Brock told me the
whole story about your Gym experiences, and I am sure that, if Sailor
Moon and her friends saw those matches, they'd say you did well."

Ash looked at him in confusion.

"Sometimes, Ash, victory is NOT actually gained from defeating an
enemy in combat. A long time ago, I was kidnapped and brainwashed
to do evil. If Sailor Moon had beaten me in combat, she could have
won, but she knew it would have been a hollow victory. She didn't
want to kill me, so she did not fight. In the end, her love saved
me. Your love saved many Pokmon from getting hurt or worse. You
saved Erika's Gloom, as well as the Cerulean Gym Pokmon. Are you
saying that you don't deserve the badges because you didn't fight?"

"No, I didn't mean..." Ash changed the subject. "Who abducted you?"

"An evil woman whose name I won't mention," sighed Mamoru. He smiled
softly at Ash. "You deserve those badges, Ash. Don't ever put yourself
down. You did well in those other four Gyms, right?

Ash nodded. He had defeated Surge, Koga, Blaine, and Team Rocket. Team
Rocket owned the Viridian City Gym, so he had fought their Pokmon.

"Okay," said Mamoru. "Come inside and we'll feed you something."

"Thanks," said Ash, getting his confidence back. This young man
was a nice person to talk to, and listened to his problems.

~~+~~

"Rei, that was mean," whimpered Usagi as she and Rei were with the
other Inner Senshi, talking about the match between Rei and Ash.
"You hurt Ash and I think he lost faith in himself."

"Don't be so biased, meatball head," said Rei with a sneer. "This is
not some stupid game. Ash should have expected that, from his fights
in the Pokmon League Gyms in his homeland."

"Yeah, we all had trouble with the challengers," said Makoto, wiping
her brow. "It took everything I had to beat the last one."

"Yeah, what a nightmare!" bawled Usagi. "I almost lost my last match!"

"Don't worry," said Ami. "There are only 25 challengers in this
contest, including Ash. It's not like the Pokmon League in China."

"What a crybaby," mumbled Rei.

"Take that back," ordered Minako.

"No way!" said Rei. "Look...I worked hard to win those eight Pokmon
League Badges, and if Ash doesn't like the way I fight, that is his
stupid problem! I can't BELIEVE he accused me of cheating!"

"That's because he's never seen that speciality attack," said Luna.
"I mean, you girls DID create the TMs from your own Sailor Powers."

"What about Misty?" asked Artemis. "Did you sense anything from her?"

"No, I was too busy fighting off his Squirtle," muttered Rei. "The
kid should have evolved it by now. Hmph. If I see Misty again, I
will try to check her out carefully, but I need to rest for tomorrow."

"Yeah," yawned Usagi. "I really NEED my beauty sleep...*yawn*..."
She picked up Luna. "See ya tomorrow!" She walked out.

"Yeah," said Minako. "Come on, Artemis. Let's get some rest for the
next day of challengers...*YAWN*..." She left with Artemis.

"Beware your attitude, Rei," warned Makoto as she let Rei out. "Ash isn't like Usagi. If he gives up because of you, we'll all look bad."

"Fine," said Rei, leaving.

"I hope she doesn't let this contest go to her head," said Amy.

Rei tended the Great Fire. ~Great fire of the planet Mars, show me the
power within Misty Waters, the gym leader of Cerulean City.~

The image showed a symbol on Misty's forehead. ~So she is a Sailor
Senshi!~ thought Rei thoughtfully. Just then, the doorbell rang and Rei
hurried to answer the door. She opened it. "I'm sorry, the temple is..."

"I am not here for a charm," said Brock softly. "I want to talk to
you about how you treated Ash during the match today."

"We have nothing to talk about," said Rei coldly.

"I think we do," said Brock, forcing himself past her.

"HEY!" cried Rei. "You idiot! If you think you can barge in here..."

"Ash trained very hard to get where he is," said Brock, interrupting her.
"Yes, his methods are far different from any other trainer you may know,
maybe even you..." He turned to her. "But he defeated us AND the Elite
Four, who aren't pansies. I saw Ash struggle, and now his dream of being
the greatest Pokmon trainer of all were shattered."

"Hey, don't you preach your sermons to ME, boy!" said Rei hotly. "I
only do what I am supposed to do - I fought him, he disqualified
himself. He's not dead, is he? I fought six trainers before him and
they didn't say anything in anger when I beat them."

"You know who you remind me of?" said Brock angrily. "Lt. Surge.
He treated Ash the same way you did, and his Raichu beat up Pikachu.
What you did made him flash back to that day, and I think you are
just like him. But Surge lost, and so will you."

"I just want to make sure that the trainers are serious, SIR," said Rei
angrily. "I don't tease them to be mean, just to see if they would snap.
Ash did. He was a fool to do something like that."

"So, you wouldn't mind if Squirtle had won the match?" asked Brock.
"If Ash had acted the way you did, would you let your Ninetales die?"

"NO!" snarled Rei. "But no trainer would do that! There's a big gap
between a Pokmon match where one can take the losers and heal them,
and what the Sailor Senshi do! I am not like Queen Beryl, Wiseman,
or the Death Busters! I don't kill, but this isn't murder."

"Who are these people?" asked Brock.

"Ah...er..." said Rei. ~Damnit, I forgot that these people weren't
in the Tokyo area during those attacks.~ "Evil beings from another
world. They wanted to destroy this world, but the Senshi beat them.
They almost lost a lot to do so. I'm not a witch, just a Gym Leader."

"Really?" asked Brock firmly. "You forget...*I* am a Gym Leader too.
I've fought many trainers while in Pewter City. Most of them were in
this contest just for the glory of getting badges. These people pushed
their Pokmon to their limits, even when it was a decisive victory.
Some...just left the poor creatures there and abandoned them, thinking
them worthless. Others didn't even bother to praise their Pokmon after
they won. They called them back and put them away. They were normal."

"Ash isn't a normal trainer," continued Brock. "If he had been like
the other riff-raff I've seen, he would have taken the opportunity
to finish Onix off after the gym sprinklers went off; he would have
accepted the Cascade Badge without listening to Misty; he would have
not bothered to rescue that Gloom in Celadon Gym's fire; he would have
given up and forgotten about the Marsh Badge. Yeah, Ash is boneheaded
at times, but he has honor and compassion, which makes him special."

"You seem pretty supportive of your friend, Brock," said Rei. She went
to her belt and removed a Pokball. "How about I test that loyalty?"
She turned around. "A match. You win, I will promise to be nice to Ash."

"And if you win?" asked Brock, lifting an eyebrow.

"You have to treat me to dinner, and pay for everything," teased Rei.

Brock extended his hand. "Deal."

Rei smirked. "Get ready to lose, rock boy. You are going to see how
a lesser Gym Leader stands against a COSMIC Gym Leader!"

Team Rocket was sitting on the branchs of a cherry tree, spying on
the two as they prepared to fight. "Now we'll see what sort of
Pokmon this babe has," said Meowth.

Phobos nipped his ear. "Ouch! Get lost, you overgrown bird!"

"Shhh!!" hissed Jesse.

-+-

"Go Vulpix!" shouted Brock, summoning the six-tailed fox.

The fox stretched out from lack of use and yawned.

"So, you have an unevolved Ninetales," said Rei. "Okay, we'll fight
type-to-type. I call upon Minerva!" The Ninetales emerged.

-+-

James gasped and nearly fell out of the tree! "A Ninetales!" he said.

"If we got our hands on that, the Boss will be ecstatic!" said Jesse.

"Superb!" said Meowth. Deimos pecked him. "OUCH! Get out of here!"

"SHHHHHH!!" hissed Jesse, malleting Meowth on the head.

-+-

"Vulpix, use your Quick Attack!" ordered Brock.

"Minerva, Flamethrower!" shouted Rei.

The little fox dodged the blasts of fire that the Ninetales breathed,
and then smashed its head into the creature.

"Tail Whip," ordered Brock. Vulpix tripped up Minerva, but the Ninetales
managed to clamp down on Vulpix's leg with her fangs! Vulpix blasted fire in its face to free herself, and a couple of stray gouts of flame grazed the tree that Team Rocket was in.

-+-

"This is getting hot!" yelped Meowth. He then sniffed. "Do you smell
smoke?" He looked at his tail...and screamed in pain. One of the gouts
had ignited his tail. "YAAAAAAH!!!" The cat Pokmon fell out of the
tree and landed with a splash into the stream below.

"SHH!!" hissed Jesse, trying to see the battle, but then the two humans
discovered that their hair was on fire. They both screamed and dove into
the stream as well, which swept them both away.

James gurgled something which would probably have turned out to be
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

-+-

The fight between the two fire-fox Pokmon continued in the same way,
fire lighting up the room and outdoing the glow of the Great Fire, until
both fainted from pure exhaustion. It was a draw.

"Stop the match!" ordered Rei.

"You admit defeat?" asked Brock, curious.

"No, it's a draw," said Rei. "But I admit that your Vulpix is pretty
strong...probably stronger than Minerva. I concede your victory." She
held up her Pokball. "Return Minerva." The Ninetales was sucked up.

"Your Ninetales isn't too shabby, either," said Brock with a smile.
Rei was flattered. "Here, why don't I make tea for you? I would like
to talk to you some more." Rei flushed. "Honest."

"Is that the REAL reason why you challenged me to a match?" asked Rei.

Brock nodded sheepishly. "I wanted to see how good you were. You are
pretty good. I thought you were just another trainer, but you were
something at Pewter City. Same for your friends."

"I don't know about Usagi-chan," teased Rei. "But we all did good."
She put the Pokball away. "I think I will accept your offer of tea.
It's been lonely since Yuuchiro left."

"Yuuchiro?" asked Brock. "Who's he?"

Rei smiled. "I'll make the tea instead while I tell you about him."

~~+~~

The two Leaders sat down for warm herbal tea and talked around the
steaming wisps of vapor that drifted up from the cups. Eventually,
the topic shifted to family. Both trainers were rather surprised to
find similar family histories, growing up alone after their mothers
passed away and their fathers left. Rei found peace by taking care
of the shrine, and Brock took care of his family.

Brock told of all his travels with Ash, and Rei told about how she
met Usagi and her friends; Ami, Makoto, Minako, Haruka, Michiru,
Setsuna, Hotaru, Chibiusa, and more. Rei told Brock about Yuuchiro.
Chad claimed to be a rock star, but he was nothing much more than
a rich boy who had strayed from his family and become a vagrant.

Yuuchiro had showed up on Rei's doorstep when her grandfather was hurt,
and the old man had put Yuuchiro through much strange torture, but it
was discovered that a demon was possessing the old man - Rei didn't dare
tell Brock about the Sailor Senshi's adventures too much, lest she gave
away valuable secrets about herself and her friends.

Rei had gotten to like the young vagrant and his way, especially a short
while back, but just after the Death Busters had been defeated, he had
run off, leaving a note that said that he would show Rei how brave and
strong he was by Pokmon training in China.

Brock recalled seeing a trainer in Pewter City, and how the man had
fought him. That man, a scruffy boy, had said his name was Kaneda
Yuuchiro. He had been beaten badly, and was never heard from again.
Brock wondered if Yuuchiro had given up, like his father, and hid
in shame. Well, Yuuchiro was never heard from again.

"You remind me of Yuuchiro," said Rei, idly stirring her tea. "He...
he had a good heart, just like you."

"Well, I think you are pretty cute," said Brock with a smile. "Sorry
about the way I acted. I...I was just angry at you."

"I get angry too," said Rei. "Especially at Usagi-chan. Usagi is just
like Ash. She does the DUMBEST things at times, acting like a baby or
ignoring things which are important. Yet...she comes through."

Brock chuckled. "You are such a fiery woman, Rei."

~Woman?~ Rei was surprised Brock had said that. ~He called me a woman.~

"Well, I'd better go," said Brock, getting up and calling back Vulpix.
"I'll talk to Ash and convince him not to give up."

"Will...will you be there too?" asked Rei.

"Sure." Brock shook her hand and left.

Rei sighed and stirred her tea. ~He is quite handsome...~ She then
caught herself. "Duh!" she said, rolling her eyes. "I'm getting to
be just like Usagi-chan, swooming over a cute guy!"
