Heehee! Nice story. And Gandalf did indeed say that, but really only
the lesser rings could be destroyed that way (one thinks a number of
the dwarven rings were). Gandalf says that he fears that even
Ancalagon the Black's fire would not be hot enough for consuming the
One.
