I don't know if a story like this has already been written by someone
else. If so, please tell me! This fanfic starts at the end of the game
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Like many others, I was a little
disappointed in the end of the game, and also more than a little
disturbed. Obviously this fanfic is going to contain spoilers for the
entire game, so if you haven't finished playing yet and don't want to
know what's going to happen, skip this story for now. For the rest of
you, please let me know what you think. No flames, please.

Thanks!

Jennifer

Broken mirror, a million shades of light
The old echo fades away
But just you and I can find the answer and then
We can run to the end of the world
-"Small of Two Pieces" lyrics by Masato Kato, end theme of Xenogears

Link walked out of the Temple of Time. He took a deep breath of air and
looked around. It was a beautiful day. Birds were chirping and
butterflies flitted about in the gentle breeze. Nearby, in the center
of Hyrule Castle Town, the market was full of busy people going about
their day-to-day lives. And in the distance he could see a white,
fluffy ring of clouds circling the peak of Death Mountain. Link
relaxed. It was going to be a good day, he was sure. A good day to . .
. to do what? Wait a minute. Why was he here again? Why did he leave
the forest? It had something to do with the Great Deku Tree, but he
couldn't quite remember. He shook his head, trying to clear out the
cobwebs. Cobwebs. Spiders. Hadn't it had something to do with
spiders? No, it was no good. He couldn't remember. Maybe if he walked
around. . .. He headed toward the market, hoping that something would
jog his memory.

As he walked into the market, he was greeted by a carnival-like
atmosphere as sellers chased buyers, children chased cuckoos, and a dog
chased it's own tail. He pushed through the crowds of people and tried
to take it all in. It all seemed so new to him, and yet he had the
strangest sense of deja vu. He stopped short as he saw a young girl
standing in the middle of the crowd. She seemed to be looking for
something or someone. She was a prety girl with a light colored dress
and reddish hair. And somehow, Link knew that he'd seen her somewhere
before. Maybe she could help him remember the things he had forgotton.

As she finished playing the Ocarina of Time, Link's body slowly crumpled
to the ground in front of her. She walked over to his inert form and
rolled him onto his side. She then carefully drew the Master Sword from
it's scabbard and held it in her hand so that she could see her own
reflection in the shining blade.

"Thank you, Link," she said quietly.

"Thank you, for ridding this world of the evil Gannondorf. Thank you
for collecting all the Ancient Artifacts of Power. And thank you, for
becoming the Hero of Time." She slowy stood, holding the Master Sword
in her hand, which glowed with the power of the Triforce of Wisdom.

"But this time is not for you, Link," she added sadly.

"No, this time is my time," she almost whispered, "and with you gone
there will be no one left with the power to stand in my way!" Her voice
rose in volume as she spoke. She smiled evilly, and a chill wind blew
across the remains of Hyrule Castle.
