I must agree with Tyree 10'oclock there is way to many ranme fics.
D.B. : (Looks at the calender) Oh, is it that time of year again?
i mean I
get 40 e-mail from the list that only concern ranma. I joined hte list to
put my fics out there and read other peoples.
Gee. I'm off list a couple of days and look what crops up. For those of
you new to the list, the 'There are too many Ranma fics out there'
discussion usually comes up once or twice a year. Don't let it dissuade
you from writing any Ranma fics you might be planning on doing. There is
now and always has been a section of the FFML that don't like Ranma or
have gotten tired of reading Ranma fics and let people know about it,
usually right around this time. Despite appearences, there are plenty of
people on the list that read and C+C Ranma fics, so don't worry about the
C+C. The odds are you'll get the same amount you would have before this
whole discussion came up.
But i have never seen Ranma
and I don;t intend to because it' not my style.
Fair enough. No one demands that you do.
I may only write Eva but
that;s because it is one of the only series I have finished. So could we
please see some more variety.
Well now, if you (and anyone else who is complaining) want to see more
variety, the best way to do that is to encourage it. Go out of your way to
C+C people that write about those other series. Few things get a writer
motivated more than people writing them, letting them that the story has
been read and enjoyed and you want to see it continued. But if you just
stand on the sidelines and don't say a word, don't be surprised if that
Ushio and Tora, or an Armored Trooper Votoms fic never gets continued past
chapter 1. If people don't think their stuff is being read, they aren't
going to bother continuing.
Another thing you can do to encourage it is to send out your comments
publically, so that others on the list see the responses and might feel
inclined to perhaps go back over something they might have deleted out of
hand (this has happened to me on more than one occasion), or add some
comments that they otherwise might have not bothered with.
Also, the idea that the list is nothing more than Ranma fics is bull. Yes,
it is put out in much greater quantities than any other anime, but there
are plenty of non-Ranma fics out there. (Even non-Sailor Moon ones too
^_^). The last few weeks I've seen Iczer, BGC, Project-Ako, OMG, Dirty
Pair, hell, Mermaid's Scar stuff crop up lately. True. Ranma dominates the
list, but there are many alternatives to the Ranma materials out there.
Really, if you don't like Ranma fics, fine. Don't read them. But just
outright complaints like some of the ones I've seen on this thread don't
do any good. Do something productive to encourage the writing of other
series.
Well, Tybalt's probably going to (justifyably) ban this thread soon.
Hopefully this was more than simple spam though, and actually had a
helpful hint ot two.
D.B. Sommer (who actually has part of a Riding Bean fic written up and is
just going to complete a few other projects first before seriously
tackling it.)
P.S. I do seem to have be having bouncing problems lately with my server
and it might not be cleared up just yet. <Insert cursing at general
incompetance here> So if I don't respond to replies, that might be the
cause and keep trying. With any luck, I'll be able to get the prose
revision of Shampoo 1/2 Chapter 2 out in the next few days.
