This is a question addressed to anyone who's seen the series Serial
Experiment LAIN (forthcoming from Pioneer I think?), and has some
questions/points that I'm contemplating writing a fic about.

<< SPOILERS involved below, don't read if you haven't seen this series>>

<<You were warned before, I relinquish any responsibility for disillusionment
from a spoiled anime series>>

I watched the entirety of this series a couple weeks ago and went back to
watch the last of the episodes, #'s 9-14 last weekend. In the end of the
very last episode, we see Alice & and that teacher whom she had a
relationship walking down the street, and Alice goes on about how she's done
everything that he wanted, and that now she wanted _him_ to do something for
her.Anyways, she turns around, and sees Lain standing above them on a
footbridge, and runs up to Lain to see why she seems familiar to her (Alice).
Anyways Alice asks "Do I know you? Maybe from when I was a student
teacher?..."

(BTW, can anyone supply a name for Alice's boyfriend from the anime? I don't
recall ever seing mention of it...?)

>From this I am extrapolating that some fair period of time has elapsed since
Lain's erasure of all the
Wired's & therefore _all_ the world's memories of her. Would anyone say that
ten years might be about right? Alice & Lain were in the last? year of
junior high as I recall at the beginning, and
Alice is now (I am supposing) a full teacher in some school. I don't recall
the bits I've heard about the
Japanese school system, but I am supposing about 4 years after in the upper
high school and similar for
a degree in the university system, and a couple years obtaining a full
teacher's credentials?

Anyways, the point of this is that Lain is significantly shorter than Alice,
so I am supposing she appears the same age as before. My conclusion is that
Lain exists primarily in "the Wired" now, but since the real world & the
Wired interface seamlessly (Protocol 7-rewritten), she can manifest in the
"real world" without any problems, at any age she wants.

Please email me with discussion/comments/thoughts, although I'm not an
established writer, I'm itching to take a shot at this series, especially
after the Ghost in the Shell series "Birth of a new Species", and I'm
developing ideas, but I am unsure about some of what I'd base the fic on,
stemming from the question(s) above.
