Neon Ranma Evangelion part 2
	By Khyron KingKiller

Friends

The days passed quickly for the men and women of NERIMA. The salvage
operation was conducted with out a hitch and unit Eva 01 was back in
fighting form again.

In a lull of activity, Nabiki was rewarding herself with a nice tall ice
cream sundae with cherries and globs of chocolate frosting on top today.
After tons of paper work and hours of listening to old dinosaurs in the
military and U.N. rattle on about property damage and the drain on funding
the Eva project was on one side and how its effectiveness in battle could
be improved in another, she deserved it. What did those fools know anyway?
They weren't the one's balancing the damn scales and check books. That was
the problem with these people. They think they know everything about how
things should be run and tell you what to do ever step of the way then
blame you whenever their orders get your people screwed! Nabiki took and
extra big swallow of sundae.

She really shouldn't be doing this but since her figure seemed to be able
to take it, why the hell not! What's life if you don't have a self
destructive habit or two to make it interesting right?

At last was tasting sweet success. She had managed to shape up the NERIMA
personnel just in time to fend off the Angel but the only person she had
not
yet checked over was the most important one, their pilot. It worried her to
see that Ranma had a rather lack luster attitude. Hmm...wonder if Kasumi is
holding something back on me? Where the hell is the pilot anyway?

Sighing to herself as her worries stopped her from enjoying the rest of
her reward. Nabiki reached into her bag and picked up her cellular phone.

	"Hello, Kasumi speaking."

"Kasumi, its Nabiki. I just called to ask about Ranma. How is our pilot?"

"He's fine, I've arranged everything with his new school and I've assigned
some security to quietly monitor his safety but I'm a little worried
though..."

Nabiki felt sick suddenly. "Why? Is anything wrong? He's not showing signs
of neural burnout is he?" Oh god, please let him be alright! We only have
one pilot and the other is barely out of recovery.

"No, its just that I gave him a cellular phone along with the standard
emergency pager and its been quiet."

"So?" Nabiki sighed and popped an anti-ulcer tablet into her mouth.

"Well, I don't think he's made any friends yet. Its been a week already
and he hasn't had one call."

"Kasumi, what is your point?" Nabiki didn't see the problem. She herself
didn't have many friends.

"He has no friends Nabiki." The voice sounded exasperated. "He's still
alone at heart."

**************************************************************************

Akari took her job as class president very seriously. She had to set an
example for others to follow. She frowned as she looked at the seat besides
hers. It was empty for two days now. Ryoga never cut class before. Late
every once in a while but never just vanishing.

	"Gosunguki."

A pale and thin young man appeared behind her with a movie camera. "Yeah?"

"Aiee!! Don't sneak up on people like that!" She calmed herself and
continued. "Where is Ryoga? Its been two days already and he still hasn't
been in class. He didn't drop out or get hurt did he?" She asked worriedly.

Then the door flew open as a hand threw it crashing to the wall. A tall
muscular young man with a bandana walks in and the two become silent. Ryoga
was dressed in his usual rough yellow shirt and dark trousers. Not giving
any sign that he wanted to be disturbed, he walked to his chair and plopped
down on it. He radiated anger and fury so much that those sitting nearby
edged away from him.

"Hey Ryoga! You alright?" Gosunguki approached his furious friend as
carefully as a lion tamer with an angry lion. Given that Ryoga was strong
as a bull and looked like a snarling wild cat, complete with a set of nasty
looking fangs, it was a wise thing to do. "You haven't been in class
lately."

"My sister got hurt in the Angel attack. She's still in the hospital. She
just woke up yesterday." He pulled one of his bandanas low, over his eyes
and tried to get some rest.

	"I...I'm sorry to hear that."

Ryoga shrugged as if he didn't care but his face betrayed the fury he was
feeling. He wanted to tear something apart, never mind what for, just as
long as he didn't feel like he was lost. He wanted to kill the Angel for
hurting his sister. He wanted to beat up the incompetent pilot for not
protecting the shelters, trampling and fighting right on top of it! He
wanted to smash something, anything!

"Hey Ryoga, hear the rumor about our new transferee?"

Ryoga leaned back as far as he could in his chair. He didn't really like
to listen to rumors. He did not want to be with another human being right
then but Gosunguki was persistent.

"They say he's the pilot of the giant robot that fought the Angel on T.V."

Ryoga lifted the bandana and opened one eye. Wondering if Gos had been
spending too much time doing whatever Gos did whenever he wasn't acting as
his missing sense of direction. Gos's eyes weren't bloodshot, well, not
more than normal. His speech seemed coherent enough. Wasn't screaming
bloody murder about his theories about this or that conspiracy. Didn't seem
to be shell shocked or anything. Probably just his way of making a joke to
lighten his mood. "I'm not in the mood Gos..."

"No, wait! Think about this first, how many people have transferred out of
this school?"

"About half, Angels scared off pretty much everybody who can run."

"So everybody is leaving this place as fast as they can but one! One kid
who for no reason, transfers here with no problems with the administration,
no hassles with the papers or regulations or stuff like that and we don't
know a thing about him!

Ryoga was getting an odd feeling that maybe for once Gosunguki was right.
What did they know about Ranma anyway?

**************************************************************************'

Ranma sat in his seat and tried his best to look at least moderately
attentive while their teacher babbled on and on about the Impact and
occasionally stray to the topic of his vacation in the now lost paradise
that was Hawaii. His eye lids drooped and he had to shake himself awake to
chase away the weariness creeping into him. As soon as he could walk into
NERIMA, they have been drilling him about everything from the Eva's
capabilities to fighting techniques.

As soon as he was well enough, his father arranged for him to receive
special combat training every morning before he went to school. Tired was
too mild a world to describe how Ranma felt. Exhausted was more like it.
Day
after day he fought another combat expert his father had found to face him
and day after day he sent them to the hospital. Ranma had a burning desire
to one day actually face his father in combat and show him what he had
learned all those years alone. The savage school yard fights. The merciless
battles where he had to fight for every inch of respect that he wanted.
Ranma was an excellent fighter and was the champ in school yard fights.
Several school yards in fact, since he often sent his opponents to the
hospital and got himself expelled. Ranma mussed that he must have traveled
all over Japan being transferred from one school to another.

"Ah yes, Hawaii was beautiful! It had soft white sand and perfect blue
waves and palm trees all around...."

The man wore dark pink shades, had a small plastic palm tree for a head
ornament and everything from his shirt to his shorts and his sandals were
Hawaiian. This guy really liked the place alright. Too bad the whole island
sank after the impact. Who would have thought one Angel could do so much
damage.

"17 years ago when the Impact was still fresh on the Earth, climates
changed and sea level rose as the evil Angel wrecked havoc! Melting the
Arctic ice caps, destroying cities and turning the Earth into a wasteland!
Billions died! Nations fell and there was chaos in the world! Through sweat
and blood, mankind was able to rise out the ashes of the old world and
create a new world in which we now all live. Such examples of this is Tokyo
3 where it was rebuilt exactly where old Tokyo used to be..."

He sighed again as his mind desperately tried to think of anything other
than the same boring lecture they had been getting from their looney
professor. Only those with nowhere else to go chose to stay behind, Eva or
no Eva to protect the city. He looked at his teacher again and corrected
his line of thought. Those with no choice, and those who were crazy. He
briefly wondered in which category he fell into.

He wasn't really the patient sort. His idea of a long wait was the time it
took for water to boil. This class wasn't just boring. It redefined boring
to at least three new levels for him.

His eyes started to wander. Just besides him was the girl. The other pilot
of Eva. Still wrapped in bandages. He acknowledged that she was beautiful
in a haunting sort of way. So quiet and demure. He wanted to say something,
anything but nothing seemed to come out of his mouth whenever they met.
They were in the same room day in day out but he couldn't gather the
courage to talk to her. Talk about pathetic.

He was about to nod off when someone passed a note to him. He opened it
and was blinked a few times at the message : Are you the pilot of the
robot?

He turned around to see a couple of girls at the back giggling. How the
hell did they? Should he? Nabiki said to keep it secret...Kasumi said it
was alright to tell a few friends...What the hell! It wasn't that important
or anything. He passed out another note : Yes.

	"YES!!!" Somebody yelled .

Ranma choked and raised his hands in defense as the whole class with the
exception of four swarmed over him.

"How were you chosen?" "Did you have to take any special tests?" "What's
your phone number?" Ranma tried his best to answer the questions but a new
one was asked
for every one he tried to answer.

He looked at the girl, his fellow pilot for support but saw that she
wasn't going to do anything about the human wall that surrounded him. She
looked at him from the corner of her eyes like he imagined he must have
earlier and did nothing. Gosunguki didn't bother trying to wrestle for a
spot near Ranma because he knew with his slight build, he'd be squashed
flat but he was happily taking notes of everything Ranma said. The other
girl who didn't bother to join the circus was Akari, the class president
and calls to order were ignored of course. The last one was Ryoga. He had
plans with the transferee.

**************************************************************************

Ranma rolled with the blow. The punch had a lot of power behind it. He was
up and ready to rumble in seconds. So these two think they can just pick on
me huh? I'll show them!

"Sorry about that transferee but I just had to hit you. You hurt my sister
by fighting right on top of the shelters! You will pay!"

Ranma stood up. His felt his anger rising but at the same time he felt
guilt clench a cold, tight fist in his heart. He had done his best damn it!
He didn't want anyone to get hurt. He didn't know Angels would
self-destruct.....

"I'm sorry about your sister....but I did my best and if that's not good
enough then I'm sorry! Its not like I wanted to be an Eva pilot...." Ranma
mumbled

Ryoga growled and let his rage wash over him. How could such a spineless
wimp be the pilot of the Eva? He grabbed Ranma by the front of his shirt.
Daring him to give him a good fight. Ranma averted his eyes. Ryoga snorted
in disgust and swung his fist to punch him down to the ground where he
belonged. Damn coward!

Alright! That's it! Ranma surged back to his feet and prepared to show
Ryoga just what his fists could do to his ugly face. Ryoga smiled and
raised his guard. They began to circle each other. Eager to fight.

Suddenly, Ranko jumped between them. The girl looked at Ranma and he
stopped cold.

"There is an emergency. We must go." The girl said quietly.

That was when he noticed the klaxons and blaring public address system
calling for everyone to head for the shelters. Ranma felt embarrassed to be
caught like that by her for some reason and followed quietly. Ryoga on the
other hand had to be restrained by Gosunguki.

"Come on man! We've got to get to the shelter!"

"Just you wait Ranma! I'll make you pay!"

**************************************************************************

"Angel is approaching at 500 clicks and closing. Estimated time of
arrival, 1 minus 3 minutes."

The Angel was a strange one. Built much like a fat worm, it had growths
along its sides trailing red ribbons. Based on the energy readings they
were getting, the ribbons were probably weapons of some sort. The Angel
also seemed to have a unique propulsion system. Hovering over nothing, the
Angel glided towards NERIMA as gracefully as a fish in water.

"Where the hell is the pilot!?" Nabiki yelled as she reads the read outs
and calculated the odds. They had to bet everything they had on Eva 01.
Everything fell on Ranma's shoulders again. Thankfully the boy was ready
this time.

"Pilots have just arrived and are heading for the launch bay." Mara called
out.

"Have Ranko sit stationed in standby and tell Ranma to man his Eva
quickly. Launch him at these coordinates." A flurry of activity later.
Nabiki sat down and prayed. It's up to you now Ranma.

**************************************************************************

Ranma was wearing a synchro suit, a sort of body glove that helped him
synchronize. He had a neural amplifier band on his head to help him
synchronize with the Eva. This time he was more confident about the
controls now. He still felt the chill of fear touch into him and a nagging
doubt. A wrongness about piloting this giant living machine that used your
mind to guide itself but he pushed the feeling deep down and banished it.
He had to become the pilot once again. He had to because whether he liked
it or not, there wasn't anyone else.

Moving like a pro, Ranma used his familiarity with the city's lay out to
sneak around the Angel. This city was unlike any other before it. Most of
these buildings were nothing more than disguised ammo depots or sensor
arrays or what not. He breathed a little easier knowing that all the
civilians were already in shelters, building designed to withstand a
nuclear holocaust, and that the real city was protected under ground,
beneath the Geo shield.

This time the auto cannon in the robot's arms was the real thing. This
wasn't a simulated Angel crisis. He leapt into the Angel's way and opened
fire at full auto. Hundreds of rounds of high explosives ripped through the
air at super sonic speeds and pounded the Angel. Each round could have
blown a tank apart but Ranma kept the trigger pressed and waited for the
magazine to empty itself. The Angel took the rounds head on and disappeared
under the resulting smoke. When the auto cannon stopped, Ranma took a deep
breath. It was over, nothing could have lived through that.

As if to mock him, two glowing red lines slashed out from the smoke and
dust to whip him away. The rifle was torn out of the Eva's hands and cut to
pieces. Shocked and surprised, Ranma felt burning hot ribbons slash his
chest and throw him through a building. Dark spots formed in his eyes.

"Ranma! Your power cord has been cut!" Nabiki's strong voice cut through
the haze of hot pain and helped clear his head. He looked up just in time
as the Angel closed in for the kill.

	A count down automatically started.

5:00 of emergency power remaining.

**************************************************************************

"Where in the world are we now?!" Ryoga asked as he followed Gosunguki
through a forest trail. His sense of direction wasn't very useful and he
did not really pay much attention to the evacuation plans but he knew this
was not the way to the shelters. He did not like heading for the shelters
anyway, it felt too much like running away for his taste. He always
preferred to tackle a problem head on no matter what.

"Shhh! Don't worry. We're at the edge of one the emergency shelter doors."

"Hey, shouldn't we be IN the shelter?"

"Yeah but this might be my only chance!"

Ryoga gulped as heard the familiar sound of obsession creep into his
friend's voice. "Only chance for what?"

"Why, to get footage of the Angel of course!"

He groaned as he realized that his friend had once again gotten into his
head that he wanted to capture something on video. Last month it was the
new girl in class, last week it was a thunder bird convertible and a little
later it was the inside of the girl's bathroom. Gosunguki's fascination
with
the unknown made his life exciting but why in the world did he have to
chose to want to video the Eva for God sake!? "You do realize that I think
this is stupid of course."

"Hey, don't you want to see how the Eva fight? Aren't you just a teensy
tiny bit curious about what the Eva looks like? I'm fed up with sitting
around with no idea about what's happening and I think it would be great
for my future career as a camera man if I could capture our guardian robot
in action on film."

Ryoga wavered a bit on that. On one hand, there really wasn't much
Gosunguki could do if he decided to drag him into a shelter, he was too
slight to be much more than a small encumbrance. On another, he did want
to see what sort of job Ranma was doing....what the hell!

	"Alright! I'm with you."

**************************************************************************

Ranma ran for all he was worth and got away just in time as the two red
ribbons sliced apart a building. Changing direction at the last moment, he
leapt up in the air and yelled at the top of his lungs as he tried to smash
his foot into the Angel. Just as if the giant robot were no more than a
mere fly, the Angel lashed out with its ribbons and sent the Eva hurtling
through the air with more scorch marks. Ranma crashed into a building and
lay there, stunned and disoriented.

"Shit! Ranma, get up and get out of there! You've only got three minutes
of power left!" Nabiki cursed and tried to get in air support. No good, the
planes would never get here on time.

Ranma flipped himself back on his feet and stared angrily at the Angel.
The Angel was too aggressive to lose with out having to fight it off first.
He picked up what was left of the building he crashed into and threw it at
the Angel. The ribbons shot out and reduced the building to rubble but not
before Ranma got close enough to hit it, with a sonic knife.

"Time to die!" Ranma slashed the sonic knife at the Angel. A.T. field and
alien armor melting away from the hyper kinetic cutting edge of the weapon.
The Angel was gutted like a fish and Ranma caught a glimpse of a red globe
at the very heart of it. Drawing back the knife for another cut, Ranma
drove
the knife blade home but was stopped by the ribbons again.

Pain like hot banding irons laced itself through his arm and Ranma
screamed inside the Eva, his right hand was tied up in one of the ribbons
and he had to fight the impulse to let go of the knife. The Eva's left hand
reached to grab the red core but energy directly from the core burst out,
engulfing his left hand in nova like heat, forcing him to draw back or risk
melting his hand. The other ribbon shimmered and shrunk but grew thicker
and started to form a red mace at the end. Swinging it like a wrecking
ball, the Angel smashed it to the Eva's face and sent it flying. He landed
at the foot of a forested mountain and cursed as he realized that he had
let go of the sonic knife after all. Both of his hands, great bio
engineered marvels, were heavily damaged and spasmed in a thankfully numb
fashion.

"Ranma! Quite fooling around and run!"

Ranma looked at the Angel, it was toying with the sonic knife, it's
burning
red ribbons wrapped around the knife and tightened. With a loud shrill
hiss, the sonic knife turned to slag. Ranma was about to stand and go but
at the corner of his eye he saw something, or rather someone moving.

He turned and saw the two bullies! One of them was clutching a camera and
recording everything while the other was helping him stand. What the hell
were those two doing here!?

"Nabiki, I see two civilians out here. I've got to get them out of here!"
Ranma wondered if he should risk picking them up for a moment before he
stopped the thought. In his condition, he would more likely crush them.

"Damn it! What are those two idiots doing there!?"

Kasumi saw Ranma's frantic face and spoke firmly. "Open the entry plug."

Nabiki stared at Kasumi with wide eyes. No one ever dared to take charge
while she was in command. She would never allow that. Not even for Kasumi.
"Kasumi! You are not authorized to give orders in a combat situation!
Ranma, get out of there now!"

	"But...they...I can't just..."

Kasumi stood near Nabiki and whispered urgently. "Ranma won't leave those
kids behind Nabiki. Its either you let them in or Ranma is going to stand
his ground."

Nabiki looked at Kasumi and then at Ranma. Her face like a a cold mask but
when she spoke, it was a quiet murmur. "Open the plug...."

**************************************************************************

Ryoga was a man with few words. He could barely comprehend the magnitude
of the battle that just witnessed. Half dragging, half carrying Gosunguki,
he ran for the Eva that almost squashed them flat. A door of some sorts
opened up at its spine and Ryoga climbed aboard and pulled Gosunguki after
him.

It was dark and wet and stank like blood. Gosunguki groaned a bit but
never stopped filming. His head was bandaged and looked strangely
appropriate on him. "Hey, is it just me or did things get really dark all
if the sudden?"

"Its dark Gosunguki, don't worry. You'll live long enough to win a Nobel
prize yet."

Just them, the fluid started rising and the boys panicked.

	"Crap!"
	"My camera!"

Then the lights were back on. Sitting infront of them and piloting the
giant robot was Ranma!

**************************************************************************

"Neural scanner is picking up background noise!"
"Eva 01 is reacting to the intrusion, synchronization at 39, 34, 0.0001,
percent!"

	"I knew this would happen...."

"Nabiki! What's happening? What's going on?" Kasumi asked nervously as the
motors went haywire.

"The Evas were designed to read thoughts and carry them out as action.
Problem is, with the two more people in there, Eva01 is going crazy trying
to read all the orders from all three at once!"

**************************************************************************

The Eva shook and shuddered as it tried to run away. Its steps were clumsy
and its limbs jerked about in random but a least it was moving. Ranma grit
his teeth and willed the Eva to run. Something was getting in the way
though, his steps would sometimes drop heavily or his head twitch to see
behind him and catch a glimpse of the Angel.

"What are you doing!? The Angel is behind us!" Ryoga gripped the pilot
seat with one hand and Gosunguki with the other. There wasn't anything here
except the monitors, the pilot seat and a few handles. How the hell was
Ranma operating this thing?

	"We are running away stupid!"

"What!? Don't you have any balls!?!! Turn around and face the thing!"

Ranma resisted the urge to punch him and concentrated on running away. His
eyes shut and his mind focused, he made the Eva take one step after
another despite feeling like he was moving through quicksand. With only a
minute and a half of power left, he had to get away and get another power
plug first.

The Angel saw them running and decided to give chase. Both ribbons grew
longer and thinner as it moved like a whip towards Eva01. Wrapping
themselves around a foot, it reeled Eva01 in and despite the massive
tonnage of the robot, began to whirl it around like a hammer. Inside Ranma
was screaming as he felt the ribbons trying to cut through his foot. Ryoga
braced Gosunguki and himself from banging into the walls. After what seemed
like an eternity, the Angel let go and smashed Ranma through a whole block
of buildings.

Ranma opened his eyes in time for the warning signs to start flashing. One
minute of power left....

**************************************************************************

"Ranma, switch to escape plan omega. We'll try to get the a shelter to
open and..." Nabiki stalled for time and ideas. With only one minute of
power left, Ranma would never make it to the bunker. The shelter was not
equipped to recharge or repair the Eva but at least it should give him some
time for the air support. An N-2 was on its way.

"No. Not the shelters, I won't risk more people. Its either I win or die
now."

"Ranma, what are you doing? The shelter is that way! RANMA!!!" Nabiki
gasped in horror as she saw Eva01 limping at the Angel, with only 30
seconds of power left....

**************************************************************************

Ryoga watched as Ranma made the Eva rush the Angel. The razor sharp
ribbons flicked back and forth in a blur and he had to cry out in pain as
he felt his insides rip and burn. He unconsciously let go of the seat and
was spared the full blunt of the pain as he floated farther from the pilot
seat. Gosunguki had passed out and Ryoga felt like he might join him too if
the incredible searing pain inside him did not stop. He felt shame and
guilt like a sickening wave as Ranma's screams reached his ears. Ranma
never let go of the seat and a part of him understood that this was all
part of piloting the Eva. Standing in the background, he could feel the
incredible agony of being skewered alive but he knew that what he was
feeling was only a pale shadow compared to the pain Ranma must be feeling
piloting the Eva.

Trying to reach the Angel, Ranma pushed himself forward. Ignoring the
agony as he forced the ribbons through his body. He could see the Angel's
red core. Somehow he knew that if he could only destroy that then the Angel
was finished. Driven once again by pain and desperation, Ranma continued
his desperate advance, one step at a time as the ribbons in his body grew
wider and hotter. It was now a race to see if he could destroy its core or
get cut in half first. His steps felt so weak. The core seemed so far away.
The pain was too great.....

Eva01 began to flail about. It would seem that the shaking Eva01 was only
a mere hand width away from the core but it was weakened. The great metal
beast still strived to reach the core but now the Angel's ribbons were
holding Eva01 up more than its own legs. Weak, exhausted and drained of
even his deepest inner reserves of strength, Ranma saw defeat looming
before his eyes.

Suddenly, he felt something grab him and heard a scream from behind.
Looking around, he saw Ryoga. His fanged grin greeted him and the Eva's
steps picked up the pace. More strength flowed into the Eva. The pain
almost became a fuel for the rage they felt. Ranma turned to look at the
core again. It's red surface shimmered with power was within reach.

10 seconds of power left....

The Eva responded to the desperate, will of the two boys and raised its
hands in a grim salute. Forming fists capable of crushing tanks, the Eva
smashed the Angels core. Suddenly the core shattered into oblivion as
darkness fell inside the entry plug.

0:00 Power remaining.

**************************************************************************

Ranma opened his eyes and let his eyes focus. There was a weird feeling
of numbness, a lack of pain that surprised him. Shaking his head to clear
away the cobwebs, he saw that he was staring up the ceiling. He was in bed
and probably in a hospital. The unnerving thing was that the ceiling didn't
seem so unfamiliar anymore.

	"Ranma..."

That voice, he heard that voice before.

Facing the source of the sound Ranma saw Ryoga standing besides the bed he
was in. He was using a crutch and was slightly pale but what surprised him
the most was that he looked worried. He could also see Gosunguki behind him
his ever present camera clutched tightly in his hands.

	"Yeah, what is it?"

	"Are you, alright?"

Ranma blinked a few times before he could answer. "Yeah.....I'm fine."

Outside, Kasumi smiled as the boys talked. It was always nice to have
friends.

**************************************************************************

"Kasumi. I am very disappointed with you." Soun drawled while puffing on a
cigarette. Kasumi sat calmly while Soun puffed away. Judging from the
impressive stack of butts in the ash tray on his desk, Soun was very upset.

Kasumi kept her face blank. She knew Soun wasn't really angry with her. He
was just upset because she let two of Ranma's friends into Eva01.

"You are supposed to be chief of security and personnel! How could you let
two boys in the Eva unit and then let them leave just like that!? Evas are
supposed to be a classified project! How am I suppose to explain this mess
back at the UN?" Soun sighed dramatically.

"Oh I woudn't worry about that sir, I'm sure you can convince them that I
meant no harm."

Soun was about to say something when the door to his office suddenly
opened and Genma strode in. "Soun, we must talk in private."

Kasumi excused herself and went to stand outside Soun's office. There was
no else in the corridors in this section of NERIMA. Even her high security
clearance did not let her see this part of NERIMA very often. She wondered
what they were discussing. She stood as near to the door without arousing
suspicion and closed her eyes, concentrating on her hearing. She could just
make out a few words. Pilot....rules....a public exhibition.

Suddenly Genma existed from Soun's office. Kasumi was startled by Genma's
sudden departure. She kept quiet as Genma walked on to wherever it was he
was going to. She peeked inside to see Soun smoking absently, deep in
thought.

	"Sir? Is anything wrong?"

Soun blinked and seemed to just remember her being there. "Nothing Kasumi.
You may go now." Then he returned to his musings.

Kasumi left quietly. Unable to help feeling that something was happening
and she didn't know what.

**************************************************************************

Meanwhile, Genma was alone in his secret laboratory. Silently reading the
