    Ocarina's Love
    Part One: A New Arrival

Ranma 1/2 belongs to Rumiko Takahashi, Legend Of Zelda belongs to
Nintendo. I am using everything carefully, and will return them when
finished. Well, except for Navi. Two words - fly spray.

***

The morning sun rose over the city of Tokyo, one of the biggest cities
in the world, and in many universes one of the weirdest. The sun reached
out, sending it's rays across the city, and into a small place known as
Nermia. It passed the Kuno Estate, ignoring the mutterings of the two idiots
inside it, quickly ran past the Nekohanten (It had learnt a few thousand
years ago not to annoy Amazons) and wandered past Ucchans, enjoying the
sounds of her opening the shop.

It stopped at the Tendo Dojo, however. It spent several minutes there,
comtemplating if it should take the risk of annoying Akane. Ever since the
failed wedding last week she was getting mad very easy, and even gods lived
in fear of the mallet. Eventually it decided 'What've I got to lose?' and
continued across the world and waking people up. It stopped for a bit longer
though, when a mallet flew out Akane's window, reached escape velocity, and
in five minutes it had reached the sun and clonked it one.

It seems that Mallet-sama was capable of Faster-Then-Light travel.

***

Akane glared at Ranma. "Well, eat it baka!"

Ranma sweated. "While I'd love to try your food Akane.."

    Akane blinked. This was new.

"...I don't feel like having Doctor Tofu pump out my stomach today," he
finished.

As expected, Ranma landed in the pond. "Stay in there you jerk!" Akane
yelled.

"Akane! Ranma!" Kasumi called from the kitchen. "You're going to be
late!" As the two girls, er, boy and girl, um, boy and two girls? raced out
the door, Kasumi noticed that Genma-panda had used the distraction to cheat.
She shook her head sadly. He never changed. At least Ranma didn't pick up
too many of his traits. But she had used every trick in the book and he
still kept on putting his foot - or Mallet-sama - in his mouth.

She sighed to herself. How long would it be until Ranma made up his
mind? This nonsense was driving her crazy. And at the rate things were
going, they always will be.

***

Akane scowled at the red-head. "Jerk."

"Hey, it ain't my fault your cooking's deadly," she replied. "Why can't
you be more-"

"Akane Tendo and my Pig-tailed goddess! Truly fortune doth indeed favor
the noble scion of the house of Kunou..!"

"Y'know what they say, fortune favors the foolish," Ranma-chan
commented.

"From the lips of any other, those words would be considered an insult
to the honor of Tatewaki Kuno! But from the lips of my urk!" He got no
further as Ranma-chan elbowed him in the face. He collasped into the ground
and watched as 'his loves' ran past.

"Here, let me help you up," a voice said. Kuno turned to face the
speaker. He was around the same height as the normal Ranma, had short
blond hair. He wore a simple green tunic and leather boots and gloves. Kuno
noted that he had pointed ears, but for some reason forgot his
usual method of calling him a demon. Floating next to his shoulder was what
seemed to be a fairy!

    "Who be you?"

    "I'm -"

"Wait, I should be polite and introduce myself first. I am the Blue
Thunder of Furinken High," thunder boomed in the distance, despite the sky
being cloudless. "Tatewaki Kunou, age, 17."

"I'm Link, and this," he pointed at the fairy, "is Navi."

Kuno took one look at the fairy and swung his bokken at her. "Die
demon!" he yelled, forgetting to spout his usual poetry.

"Hey!" she yelled, dodging the wooden sword. "Watch it!"

Suddenly a large sword sliced through the bokken, sending the pieces
flying across the ground. Kuno looked up at Link, who held the sword out in
front of him. "No-one tries to hurt my friends and gets away with it," the
youth stated in an cold, emotionless voice.

"I accept your challenge. SASUKE, KATANA!" Kuno yelled. The ninja
appeared, holding out a sheathed weapon. Kuno grasped the hilt,
and pulled it out. The blade was a foot shorter then Link's, and looked very
sharp. He slashed at Link, who parried and cut at Kuno's chest. He dodged
just in time. A large gash could be seen along Kuno's clothes, but luckily
for the moron, no blood.

The pair circled each other, attacking when they saw a chance. Despite
many attempts on each other, niether were able to wound the other. Link was
far more skilled with his sword, but it was slower then Kuno's, which was
strong enough to deflect the attacks. Link slashed at Kuno's feet, but
missed and had to back flip out of the way or lose his head. He leapt
forward, sword swinging straight down. Kuno blocked the blade, but the force
behind it pushed him back into a wall. Link then used his position to his
advantage as he pushed Kuno's blade back towards the town idiot. "Apologise
to Navi, and swear on your honor never to attack her again!" he growled.

"Never shall I rest in my holy quest to destroy evil!" Kuno yelled.
Without warning the katana blade began to glow a bright red. Link swore.
What was this trick?

And then he was consumed in fire as the magical energies began to pour
out of the blade, throwing him back several dozen meters, and into Furinkan
High.

Ranma's head shot out of the window, and saw a youth with a sword turn
to face the gates. "Hey, finally there's a fight in town and I'm not
involved," he said gleefully. Then he saw who the other fighter was. "Hey,
what's Dull Blunder doing?"

Akane looked out. "Well for one thing he's glowing. Maybe he learnt Ki
attacks?"

Ranma shook his head. "Impossible. Y'gotta have brains to learn
something."

Link looked at Kuno. When he'd started this fight he hadn't expected to
fight a person who was glowing. "Navi, how the hell is he doing that?" he
demaded.

"Ah Link, I don't know how to tell you this..." Navi began.

Link swore. Every time Navi used that line something bad happened.

"...But Kuno just got possesed by a demon."

"What?! Not even my luck is that bad!" Link exclaimed. What were the
odds of this guy getting posessed by a demon just while he was
fighting him?

"Now Hero of Time, I shall have my revenge!" Kuno-demon roared.

Not as high as the odds of the demon knowing him, he decided. "Do I know
you?" he asked.

"You may not remember me, but you made my life hell!" The demon threw
his hands forward and a wave of fire flew towards the boy. Link
dropped his sword and brought the mirror shield up in front of him. As the
fire hit the shield it was simply absorbed. Kuno-demon frowned and
unleashed several waves at once, all of them having no more effect then
simply being absorbed by the shield. Unnoticed by either of the
fighters, Ranma leapt out of the window and down to the ground.

Suddenly the shield flashed a bright red and the flames were returned to
Kuno-demon. He fell to the the ground a nice crispy black color. The glow
faded away and the words "I'll get you yet..." could be heard on the wind.
Link replaced his sword and shield on his back. Nabiki, who had in less then
three minutes taken a modest number of bets, smiled as she looked at the
pile of yen.

"Not bad, but I could have taken him quicker," Ranma said to Link. "I'm
Ranma."

"Link, and I doubt you would have taken him so easily. He was posessed
by a demon."

Ranma blinked. "Really? Yeah, I still think I could have taken him
quicker."

"No way, pal. Take on a demon like that without experience, and it's so
long!"

"Yeah!" Navi agreed. "A little kid like you is no match for something
like this!"

"Kid?" Ranma spluttered. "Now listen here you little firefly-"

"What happened here?" Cologne interupted as she pogoed into the school
grounds. "A few minutes ago I sensed dark magic, and now
this..."

"That would be Kuno," Ranma answered. "Seems he got posessed by a
demon."

Cologne gasped. "And you escaped unharmed? From such a powerful demon?"
She seemed in shock.

Ranma shrugged. "I didn't fight it. He did." He pointed at Link.

Cologne looked at Link. "Who are you?"

"I'm Link. What are you?" She rapped him on the head with her staff.
"Ow! What'd you do that for?"

"Show some respect boy. So tell me, how did you defeat this demon?"

"I reflected his attacks back at him."

Cologne frowned. "You are an elf! I have not seen one except for in the
ancient scrolls. And you can use magic too, I can sense it. I have never
seen one so young have so much control over the ether." She walked towards
the gates. "Come elf, we must talk. You may come too,
Son-In-Law." After a few seconds, Ranma, Link and Akane followed her. Nabiki
would have followed, but she was too busy taking bets on
when Link would try to kill Ranma. (Hey, every other male martial artist
wants to kill him, why not Link?)

***

The small group entered the Nekohanten. Shampoo tried to hug him, but
Cologne stopped her, causing Ranma and the girls to facefault. "We
don't have time for that now child," she said. "We have more important
things to deal with. For starters boy, you are going to tell me where you
came from."

Link shrugged and sat down. "Well, for starters I'm not from this world.
I'm from a world known as Hyrule. Seven years ago by my time, I
stopped an evil warlord from destroying it. What that meant is that I
travelled seven years into the future, to the modern day, and defeated him
here."

"When I returned to my own time, I realised that if I stayed in Hyrule,
I might end up running into myself in the future, and that would cause all
sorts of problems. So, I used this magical artifact called the Triforce I
travelled between universes and-"

"Wait a minute," Cologne interupted. "Did you say Triforce?"

"Yes. Why? Have you heard of it?"

Cologne nodded. "The Triforce parts are the essence of the gods. There
are three parts, the Triforce of Power, the Triforce of Wisdom, and the
Triforce of Courage. Each have their own secrets and abilities. The Triforce
of Wisdom grants the wielder incredible knowege, the Triforce of Power the
power of the Gods, and not much is known of the last one. All I know of it
is that the wielder must have true courage to be able to use it."

"More or less," Link agreed. Amazing that stories of it have reached so
far. I've got the Triforce of courage." He held out his left hand, palm
down, and the symbol of the Triforce appeared on it. The triangle that was
the Triforce of Courage glowed brighter then all the rest. "It's method of
travel isn't too predicable, so I don't know when I'll manage to return to
Hyrule, but I know I'll return soon." Then he realised something. "Cologne.
You said that you've only ever heard of elves in ancient stories. What
happened?"

Cologne shook her head. "The elves were around before humankind. They
were a great race that spanned the world while our ancestors were
still in trees. No-one knows what happened to them, but as humankind
expanded across the world, they began to dissappear. By the time the
Egyptians came into power, they had almost left the world completly. Yet for
thousands of years there were stories of travellers meeting them. The
Amazons saw them quite often until several hundred years before I was born.
In these modern times, I have not heard of anybody seeing one, until today."
She looked at Link with intrest. "How long will you be staying here?"

Link shrugged. "No idea. The Triforce tells me when to go. It's helped
me for the past seven years, I think I can trust it now." He looked at
everyone. "Any idea where I can find a place to stay for a while?"

"You could stay at our dojo," Akane offered.

"Thanks, Akane wasn't it?" He stood up and bowed to her. "Lead the way
my sweet princess."

Akane walked towards the door. "Just don't call me that. I get enough of
it from Kuno."

    "Huh?"

Ranma bolted out the door, eager to get away from Shampoo. "It's like
this..." Soon Link was getting a description of life in Nermia.

Cologne watched them go. "Mousse, come here," she ordered.

"What do you want?" Mousse asked a bowl of ramen.

She whapped him on the head. "*Turn around you fool. That's better. You
are to return to the villiage, and -"

"WHAT!!" Mousse cried out. "Is this another one of your plans to keep me
away from my dar-" *SPLASH* "Quack!"

Cologne put the bucket. "Listen idiot. You are to bring back all the
information on faries and elves." With that she splashed him with hot water.
As he walked out of the room, Cologne looked in the direction the elf and
fariy had left. "An elf and a fariy, here in Nermia, now. What were the odds
of that?" she whispered to herself.

Perhaps she could take advantage of this. If there was a way to get
Son-in-law to marry Shampoo, she'd sleep with Happi again.

Some believed, that from Shampoo's behavior sometimes, that she had
been.

***

Link looked up at Ranma on the fence. "What are you up there for?" he
asked.

"Balance practise," the pig-tailed youth replied.

"Ego practise if you ask me," Akane grumbled.

"Ah, you're just angry because you can't do it you tomboy!"

    "Shut up you pervert!"

"Why should I? Will you mallet me again? Jeez, you are so violent!"

"Are you two always like this?" Link asked. A glare at him to shut up
answered that question. He decided to change the subject. "You seem
to be taking this pretty well," he said.

Ranma swatted Navi away. "To be honest, it's fairly normal for around
here. You wouldn't believe half the stuff that happens around here."

"So, the dark elf Link is in leauge with the foul sorcerer Saotome! He
must be helping him to enslave the sweet Akane Tendo and the
Pig-tailed-goddess!"

Link bigsweated. "You have got to be kidding me."

"But if he must recuit a warrior of evil-"

    "Hey!"

"-One who must fight dishonorably in battle-"

"HEY!!" Link did something he never thought he'd do. He pulled the
Megaton Hammer out of nowhere. Kuno, you've met Mallet-sama before
haven't you? Meet his metal brother. Now it's time to see your old friend
the edge of Earth's atmosphere.

Link looked at the hammer in surprise. "How did I do that?"

***

The three of them spent some time explaining Link to the rest of the
family, especially Nabiki, who was finding out everything she could about
the elf and his fariy. "So Link, when are you going to try to kill Ranma?"
she asked.

"Kill him? Why would I do that?"

Nabiki shrugged. "It's just that every fighter that comes to Nermia
wants to kill or marry Ranma. A large number of people have placed large
sums of money on when the fight will take place."

"He seems like a nice guy, and I have no reason to kill him. And I am
not marrying him." Nabiki's eyes grew large, and she quietly walked fromthe
room. Link watched her leave. "What's with her?"

Ranma shrugged. "Something either went really wrong or really right.
I've never seen her do that before." He grimaced, seeming to suddenly
realize something. "There's some stuff we have to show you if you're going
to live here Link. Kasumi, could you get some hot water?"

"Of course Ranma." She walked into the kitchen and came back with a
kettle. Ranma then threw Genma into the pond. Link's eyes widened
slightly as a panda appeared where a fat manhad once been.

"Let me guess, this is some kind of curse, and hot water reverses the
effect?"

    Ranma blinked. "How'd you know?"

"Lucky guess. I have experience with magic." He passed Genma the kettle
and looked at Ranma. "Anything else I should know about?"

***

Nabiki watched as Link climbed up onto the roof. "This should be
interesting," she said to herself. And profitable. No-one had bet on him not
wanting to kill or marry Ranma. The odds were somewhere around 100000000 to
1.

She thought back to what Link had told them of his past. While there
were holes in it, it was no less beliveable then some of the things that
happened around here.

***

Link sat up on the roof of the Tendo dojo. "Okay Navi, let's see if I've
got this figured out. Ranma is engauged to Akane through a decision made by
their parents before the pair was born. He's also engaged to Ukyou through a
scam his old man pulled ten years ago when Ranma was six. Shampoo is trying
to get Ranma to marry her because he beat her in a fight-"

"I thought that was Kodachi," Navi interrupted.

"Nope, I'm sure it was miss hair-care. Kodachi is the insane one, I
think."

"I think Shampoo's parents are insane. Naming their daughter after a
hair care product?"

Link grinned. "Then there's the curses. Ranma turns into a girl, his
father into a panda, Shampoo into a cat and that Mousse guy into a duck. Did
I miss anyone?"

"Probably." The fariy buzzed around for a second. "This definatly counts
as one of those weirder worlds."

"You got that right. Still, it's a nice place." Link thought about that
for a second. It seemed too nice. For some reason he felt like staying here.
Why was that? Before, he'd always wanted to return to Hyrule. He dismissed
it. Maybe he was just tired of travelling.

Out of habit, he pulled out his Ocarina and began to play in the manner
that he had been taught over the years...

Inside, Ranma stopped to listen to the tune. It was quite beautiful, he
thought, as he walked outside and jumped onto the roof. He watched as Link
poured his heart and soul into the tune. It had elements of sadness, but
also elements of joy.

At last, the elf finished. Ranma gave a polite clap and sat down beside
him. "You're a pretty good musician," he commented.

"Thanks. When I first learned how to play it, it was because some tunes
had power, power that I needed to defeat Gannon. But after that, I kept
playing it simply because I enjoyed it. That one was the first tune I
learned. It's called Zelda's lullaby."

Ranma looked thoughtful for a second. "Could you teach me how to play
it?" he asked.

    "Sure. Just one question; why?"

Ranma shrugged. "Just curious, that's all." Downstairs, Nabiki frowned.
Since when was Ranma into stuff like that?

The trio sat up on the roof for another hour or so, comparing notes on
their life.

"So let me get this straight," Ranma said. "You saved Ruto from inside a
giant fish, and then she gave you the spiritual stone as an
engagement ring? And you didn't know what it meant?"

"I was only ten years old!" Link protested. "How was I to know?"

    "Firefly could have told you."

"I didn't know either," Navi admitted. "Marriage wasn't that common in
the Lost Woods you know."

Ranma grinned. "So you never met a cute guy Navi? Anyway, then you
pulled the Master Sword out of the Pedestal of Time and went to the
future?"

Link nodded. "I saw her a bit later on. It was in the Water Temple. She
said all this stuff about love and all that and then swam off until after I
broke the curse on Zora's Domain. Bit of a tomboy."

"Sounds like Akane. C'mon, we've got school tomorrow." Ranma leapt of
the roof.

    "School?" Link asked in surprise.

"Legally you have to go to school."

"But whenever I go to school I end up with no idea what to do. I know
nothing about this worlds history or anything like that."

"Relax, you'll be fine," Ranma reassured him.

"I've got a bad feeling about this," Navi said.

Link found himself sleeping in the guest room, Genma at the Saotome
household for the night. His last thought as sleep came to him was simply
jeez, what next?

***

The night sky over the ruined valley of Jusenkyo was cloudless, making
it easier to see a figure walking out of it. While it was easy to see the
figure, it was next to impossible to make out any features, except that he
was human and male. Of course, where Jusenkyo is involved, he may have been
neither. In his hands he held a small vial, unmarked in any way.

He looked up at the sky, and for a second his eyes could be seen. They
were totally white, and glowing slightly. "Soon, Hero of Time," he swore.
"Soon I shall my revenge!" With that he floated off the ground and flew
towards Japan.

On the ground nearby, a small black piglet watched. He knew he had heard
that voice somewhere before....

Ignoring that train of thought for now, P-chan concentrated on finding a
way back to the Tendo Dojo, and Akane's bed.
