*Why Do I Bother? - Part Four - Paradoxes Can Be Fun!*
Sailor Pluto stumbled tiredly out of the Time Gate, and sat on
the ground. Rubbing her forehead with one hand, she sighed heavily.
"Who'd have thought giving one little time key to one little kid could
cause such a headache?" she commented to no one.
Time passed. Pluto waited.
And waited.
And Waited.
And WAITED.
Finally, another Sailor Pluto stepped through the Time Gate. She
giggled insanely.
The other Pluto looked up from her ninetieth game of solitaire.
"Darn. I was winning that one." Then she shrugged, and tackled the
newer Pluto. Both of them went down in a heap.
***
"What'd you do that for?" one Sailor Pluto whined. "That really
hurt."
"Oh, grow up," the other one snapped. "I was just stopping you
from making one of the biggest mistakes of your life."
"You mean permanently dying my hair this color?"
"No."
"Then you're trying to stop me from accepting this job."
"I wish. No, I'm just here to stop you from picking up the
senshi. Believe me, if you did, you'd *really* regret it."
"Well, if you say so," Sailor Pluto shrugged. "After all, I
wouldn't lie to me, would I?"
"Right. Excellent logic there." The other Pluto nodded, and
started shoving her back towards the Gate. "Now you just step back into
the Time Whirl, and I'll take care of everything, don't you worry."
"But..."
"No time for arguments, time's a-wasting, off you go, have a nice
trip!" she shoved her through the Time Gate.
"Hey!.." Pluto vanished.
"Okay, good, one down," the remaining Pluto whipped out a list,
and checked off the first item. "Now..." she scanned the list, "ah, here
we go. Retrieve the right senshi'."
She vanished, heading towards the moon again.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Now, I *don't* want the arguing ones over there," Sailor Pluto
thought out loud to herself. "So, lets try wandering over this way..."
she headed in the opposite direction.
After some aimless wandering, she heard something. Something
that sounded like someone wailing at the top of her lungs. "Bingo!"
Following the sound, she soon found herself in a courtyard. This
time, she stopped and took a good look before jumping to any conclusions.
***
This time, the girls were untransformed. That was a good sign,
Sailor Pluto supposed.
Usagi was sitting on the ground, crying like Niagra Falls, and
wailing loudly. Rei was standing nearby and yelling in a vain attempt to
be heard over the din. It wasn't working. Makoto knelt by Usagi,
patting her on the back. Minako and Ami stood off near the edge of the
courtyard. Ami had her computer out, and was using it for dramatic
emphasis as she told Minako something that appeared to utterly bore the
blonde. Haruka and Michiru were kneeling over Hotaru, who was
unconscious. No surprise there.
These looked like the right girls this time. Pluto smiled.
***
"Hello girls," she called cheerily. "Ready to go yet?"
"Sailor Pluto!" Abruptly, Usagi was on her feet, and tear free.
"Ohit'sbeenterribleHotarucollapsedandChibi-usaleftwithoutusandwecouldn't
gethomeand..."
<How does she do that without passing out?> Pluto wondered. "All
right, all right," she interrupted, cutting off Usagi in mid-complaint.
"We'd better go before irreversible damage is done to the time stream."
<Again.>
"What about Hotaru?" Michiru asked.
"She'll be fine, really," Pluto soothed. "Her powers just don't
match this century, that's all. So she shut down."
"Oh. Okay." Haruka sounded a little lost.
"Don't worry. As soon as I get you all back, everything will be
fine." <Except for the GIANT paradox-knots this escapade's caused in the
time-space continuum, anyway.> "Gather round."
Obediently, the girls clustered around her. <Ooh, deja vu.> Pluto
transported to the Time Gate.
<Noww, let's see... if I return them to just before I left the
first time, the paradox *should* unravel... I think.> (Aren't temporal
physics fun?)
She opened the time tunnel, and herded the girls in. This time,
they all popped out several feet over the lake in the park. "Oops,"
Sailor Pluto commented as they all dropped into the water.
