Ranma 1/2: Big Trouble in Orlando, Florida
By Ryoga Masaki and Jupamana
CHAPTER 2: Location, Location, Location...
(Thursday, May 29, 8:13 PM)
Ranma came slowly down the stairs. For some strange reason, he was more
tired than usual, and even a trip across the dojo was tiring. He yawned
as he entered the kitchen/dining room area, and knelt down in front of
the table. Akane, with P-chan in her arms, and Nabiki were already here,
with Kasumi coming out of the kitchen with a pot of Miso soup. Ranma
frowned at the little pig, who in turn growled back at him. Ranma's
father, Genma, and his friend, Soun, were in the other room, playing an
intense game of mah johngg. Soun perspired heavily as he picked up a
tile in the lower right hand corner. It was a seven circle. Well, that
gave him a concealed pung. He could keep this... but he was SURE Genma
had another seven circle, which would give him an exposed kong. But that
woul dmean giving up one of his tiles. He sure didn't want to give up
his east wind or his dragons. Of course, he could exchange one of his
two wans, but that would one less pung to going mah johngg. Such a hard
choice!
Genma, seeing his friend having a hard time, remarked, "What's wrong,
Soun? Don't strain your brain!" Soun looked and glared at Genma, who was
laughing at his own corny remark. In one quick move, Soun grabbed his
cup of chilled sake and splashed it at Genma. He stopped laughing for
one good reason: he was now a panda.
Genma-panda stood up, taking up a battle position, and bellowed
something unintelligible Soun attacked first, going for a high kick to
Genma's head. Genma blocked, and grabbed Soun's leg, twisting it
upwards.
Meanwhile, the people at the table staring at the fight through the door
with the heads resting on one their hand, unimpressed. Fights like this
broke out often at the Tendo Dojo.
"Saotome-san, father, shall we have dinner?" Kasumi called to them in
her sweet and delicate voice. They ignored her, continuing to fight.
Nabiki chided Kasumi. "You know they're not going to stop until one of
them is on the floor unconscious, Kasumi, so you might as well serve the
food."
Kasumi sighed, walked over to the table and set the bowl of soup in the
center. Ranma, still half-asleep, opened one eye wider to get a look at
the soup. He identified it, groaned, and let his head fall face flat
onto the table. Akane, Kasumi, and Nabiki ignored him.
In the other room, there was suddenly silence. All three who were still
awake knew what was next: laughing, apologizing, and loud talking. Sure
enough, there was a splash as Soun poured a kettle of hot water on
Genma's head. Soun and Genma laughed at what they were fighting over,
and repeatedly apologized to each other, each one taking the blame. They
entered, and knelt in front of the table. The joked loudly about the
fight: how Soun caught Genma's legs and flipped him, how Genma hair in
one hand and feet in the other and pulled, and other things that were
suddenly funny to them.
Kasumi poured a little soup into each person's bowl. Trying to get a
conversation started, she asked Genma, "Saotome-san, how was your day?"
Genma, with his mouth full vigorously nodded his head, then swallowed
and said, "Good, good, thank you, Kasumi." He reached into his pocket,
and announced, "That reminds me. I got something today for everyone."
Hearing this, Ranma slowly lifts his head, and let out a weary "Huh?..."
Genma pulled a small stack of tickets from his pocket, and explained.
"Today, at Dr. Tofu's office, a gaijin came to see the doctor as I was
sweeping the front porch. He became very scared at the sight of a large
panda,"; Genma chuckled; "and pleaded for me not to hurt him. I put my
hand out to try to stop him, and clam him down, but he thought I was
attacking him, so he turned and ran away, screaming. He dropped the
tickets, which I picked up and looked at. There was exactly six of
them... One for each of us to go." Genma smiled, happy at what he had
done. Ranma looked up completely, slowly awakening, "Go... Where?
Where...";yawns; "... do they go to, pop?"
Genma snapped out of his happy reverie and said, "Huh? Oh! Well, they go
to a theme park over in America. Disney World, I believe."
Ranma and all three girls looked up quickly. "AMERICA?!?!" they asked.
Genma nodded, and continued to eat his soup.
As the girls talked in disbelief, P-chan oinked questioningly, then
jumped off Akane's lap and walked away, squealing quietly to himself.
------
Ryoga's notes: This is a relatively small chapter. You'll have to excuse
the corniness of how Genma got the tickets... I couldn't think of any
other believable way. ("No, really! They were just laying there, on the
ground!" -_-;) Also, don't ask why Ranma is tired in the beginning. I
don't know myself. I started writing this and was going to do something
with the sleepiness, but then I CONTINUED it like two or three weeks
later, and I'd totallty forgotten what I was doing. ^_- Anyway, until
next chapter, ja!
