OK, here's a clarification - I guess the usage I know of Pathfinder in is
as a WW-2 era military force, usually paratroop, that went ahead of the
main body and secured landing areas. I *think* they then went scouting out
ahead of the main body and looked for any unpleasant surprises and took
care of what they could, although I may be getting 2 different specialties
confused with this last thing.

Anyway, the question is, what sort of units do these kinds of things in
anyone's modern military?
