There is another reason for picking a random fic off of the list
and writing a critique of it: the critic, as well, learns more
about story-telling, from the effort of trying to figure out what
worked, what didn't, and why, in another person's story.
The science-fiction writer James Blish deliberately worked as
a reader at a magazine, just to get the opportunity to do this.
