Might as well clear the air on conceptions of CoaEG and
the Call of Cthulhu RPG thing....
I don't know the CoC rulebook, I don't care to find out what's
in it, I just want to use Lovecraft source material first and
foremost, and anything that Lovecraft didn't cover, I feel
is entirely open to interpretation.
There IS something you should know though, Rod..... the CoC sourcebook has a
LOT of stuff that Lovecraft DID cover in it, and moreover, it's codified in
an easy to interpret text that DOESN'T require you to sift through a whole
bunch of obscure books to find. However, mixed in with all the good stuff is
stuff that the RPGers made up for the game; stuff like POW and SAN and things
like that.
Basically, if somebody quotes CoC and mentiones specific spells, or how
thus-and-so volume should cause Shinji to go stark ravening insane if he even
looks at it, but this-and-that artifact is perfectly okay for Gendo to have,
you can tell them to screw off, but if they use it to bring up things likes
what basic abilites the GOO have or when a genralized ritual (like the
Summoning of the Byakhee form "Cherubim") can be preformed correctly, you
should probably listen to them.
