Looking at him practice, apply, and modify
techniques that I could only dream of, my heart is
filled with a warm emotion. Admiration and envy mix
as I watch him being challenged by powerful
opponents
who won't even bother to look at me.

Have you forgotten the Saotome Forbidden Techs.
which
Genma himself created? Ranma figures out stuff
easy, but
he has yet to actually come up with something.

It's true that Yamasenken and Umisenken are
quite powerful. But I don't see Genma using any other
special techniques.
Do you see the word "create" or any synonym
up there? Besides, why invent new techniques when you
already have many powerful techniques and can improve
them? And there ARE moves Ranma created, such as
Double Moko Takabisha and Pansuto Ryusei Kyaku.

I also wonder how good was Genma at Ranma's age.

Can't comment on that. But in Ranma 1/2,
"elderly masters" don't seem to get worse with age.
Look at Happosai (Although Cologne DOES lack endurance,
and it may be because of her age...).

He had become the greatest man I can think
of. He may be a fool, a playboy, a crossdresser,
but
none of those are his fault, nor are they anywhere
near enough to shade his valiance and compassion.

I think he's romantising Ranma here. He probably
would
though so it would reflect better on him. Cannon
Ranma is
really far from perfect, but most fanfics tend to
play down
his faults.

	I called him a fool, a playboy, and a
crossdresser. I think that covers most of Ranma's
faults, and do you really think his faults overweigh
his good points?

They say that strength and willpower are
nothing by themselves. He has both. I have neither.

So True. I've always felt that Genma in his heart
always
wanted to do the right thing, but was just too weak.

Glad to see you agree with me on something. ^_^
He does have a good heart in his heart, but they are
almost always overpowered by his greed and cowardice.

He can forgive those who wished to curse him
with a fate worse than death, and never hesitates
to
help them. The same goes for those after his life.

Helps Akane because he loves her and won't admit it.
Others? Usually forced to, like helping Shampoo
with the
ghost cat (in the manga at least). Helps Ryoga with
the mark
of the gods and Akane with the strength soba mostly
due to
his ego at being the best. Any other examples?

What about when he tried to look at things from
Happosai's point of view in volume 19? Or when he saved
Herb's life in volume 25? I don't need to say what they
did to him, do I?

Truly a man among men... but I would never say
that out loud.

Why? It would save his neck, literally.

The only character Ranma ever "killed" in the
original is Saffron. He's just too... innocent.
Also, read the points I raised in last paragraph,
and you should see that this is Genma's way of helping
him... Or what I tried to say, anyway (I don't believe
that Genma is like this in canon, I just portrayed him
kindly to show that Genma isn't as horrible as some
people think he is.)

I'm nothing but a smear on him. What little I
have done for him is crushed to oblivion by my
numerous shameless crimes against him. Of course I
wish I could take them back, but you can never
regret
before it's too late.

I've never seen Genma ever repent anything he ever
did.
Not the cat-fist, not Jusenkyo. Despite all this,

Of course not. This is just an interpretation
(a very positive one) of his behavior in manga.

he has done
something, he made Ranma into the martial artist he
is today.

	Anything else?

No, it is better this way. Ignore his
accomplishments and hide my worthless love. For
every
look of disgust and contempt they throw at me, his
glory and honor shine brighter. I will help him by
acting out the role of a worthless excuse of a
father.

Huh? Don't really get this last part.

Think about it. If you look at a light gray color
by itself, it will look gray. But if you put it beside
a black color, it looks closer to white. Ranma seems
better to others because he's a saint compared to Genma.

Author's note: Genma seems to be the least popular
character in Ranma 1/2. It is very understandable
and
I share the same belief. However, some fics seem to
stretch the point beyond the limit. Incredible as
it
may seem, I decided to defend him with this
thirty-minutes fic that interprets his attitude in
the
original in a most positive manner I could think
of.
Thank you for reading.

Good little fic. Personally I think Genma is bad
but not evil.
His main problem is he never takes into account the
consequences of his actions. Like to see you do
this
with Soun watching Akane. He never really shows any
pride
in her skill as a martial artist.

Hmm... That would be rather difficult... Mostly
because I don't have any ideas.
