  From:
        Twoflower <twoflowr@ikkoku.maison-otaku.net>

Description: A divinely sponsored, never-ending combat tournament
which owes more than a slight debt to professional wrestling as
anime characters duke it out for the entertainment of the world.
However there is also an Evil Guy, with a Plot.

Comments: Surprisingly good. Lots of vivid, well-written action,
and Evil Guy's machinations add suspense. Rushed release led to
to a slew of spelling errors, but it wasn't so bad as to hamper
the reading experience much.

  From:
        "Tom Mathews a.k.a. Disruptor" <godphoniex@HOTMAIL.COM>

Description: Setsuna turns out be an android "Demon Goddess", from
El Hazard. This leads the Crystal Tokyo senshi to travel to El Hazard
to investigate her origins and to try to remove the programming that
keeps her from being fully self-willed.

Comments: The characterisation in this piece is usually pretty sappy.
I can't complain too much about that, since it is being faithful to
the source material, but that is the element I liked least about Sailor
Moon.

However, it is rife with grammatical and spelling errors. Sending out
a call for a proofreader might be a good idea for the author.

[FFML] [FANFIC] Together Again: The Silver Millenium Chapter
        (Part 2)
  Date:
        Tue, 4 May 1999 19:12:02 -0600 (MDT)

Description: There are wars and rumours of wars in the Silver Millenium,
as Tenchi and the girls arrive via time travel and Rabby from "Gall Force"
is awakened into the new era.

Comments: Incorporating the inhabited Neptune from Urusei Yatsura into
the Sailor Moon cosmology has some interesting implications. Does that
make Michiru the long lost rightful ruler over an inhabited planet?
Not surprisingly for a story of this scope, there are elements which
interest greatly, and others that one feels inclined to just skip over.

[FFML] [fanfic][R1/2] Genma Ascendant ch.1&2, first revision

        Tue, 04 May 1999 17:38:42 -0700
  From:
        Larry F <lwf58@earthlink.net>

Description: Genma has decided to break away from his Master's immorality
in a serious way in this alternate universe.

Comments: I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Given how far inland
the Amazons are, it's unlikely that they had contact with the Japanese, so
the animosity seems excessive. Yes, the Chinese have hard feelings. But
language aside, the Joketsuzo aren't really Chinese. They are a distinct
cultural group with little fellow feeling for anyone outside the village.
That being the case, the guard's hostility could perhaps use a word or
two of explanation, as in her father being a Chinese outsider.

A Bill Morse Inspired fic.

property of William Link and Richard Levinson. Enjoy

Description: A fragment of a GS Cats/Columbo teamup.

Comments: Aaargh. I like this idea so much that I sincerely hope
the author will do something about his absolutely terrible formatting
problem. Ascii is your friend!

[FFML] [Ranma] [Fic] Girl Days, Part Four-- revised and expanded
  Date:
        Tue, 4 May 1999 22:06:57 EDT
  From:
        Kenjiko2@aol.com

Description: Now that Nodoka has decided that Ranma has to stay a girl
enough to understand his feminine side, he has attracted the attention
of a parody of such characters as Kirin, a prince who seeks to win
Ranma's heart.

Comments: Where ever could Happosai be? My theory is that Happosai
gave this idea to Nodoka, but is keeping his distance until being a girl
is a firmly accepted habit for Ranma. This is quite funny.

Description: Alternate universe where Akane has a talking pig trying to
convince her to become a Sailor Moon-ish heroine while she faces off against
Ranma and tries to punish him for being a jerk. (I think)

Comments: Doesn't look too bad, really, but was posted with excessive line
length and so was difficult to read.

    From:

Description: Visiting her new husband's family in America along with
Ranma and Akane, a Kasumi with a Jyusenkyo curse finds herself
collected as a stray cat. Meanwhile the foursome must keep the curses
secret for fear of weirding the mundanes.

Comments: "Self-Insert" does not mean bad. As long as it isn't purely
an exercise in ego-inflation, and the author remembers that you need to
tell more of a story than "I react to anime characters" it can be quite
good. This series is a fine SI series written in technically proficient
form.

  From:
        "DB Sommer" <sommer@3rdm.net>

Description: Fusion between the Marvel's Avengers and the Ranma cast, telling
their individual and collective origins.

Comments: This is something like the fifth or sixth such effort. All the
previous ones have collapsed because they were plotless, so after the
author introduced the characters he then had nothing to do with them.
This one corrects that problem by introducing a serious villian at the start,
so it's prospects are much better.

Some thoughts:

Captain America sounds far better than Captain Japan to me. On the other
hand "Maiden Japan" has a certain ring to it.

I like Iron Rose for a name, although Kodachi seems to have lost a good deal
of her wacky personality. Pity. Will her arch-enemy be "Silver Samurai"?
Smart money says, "Yes".

Hawkeye? I can't get past the real origin of the name. What was the name
of the Squadron Supreme Archer?

conquer the Earth. Akane, having better sense that to argue with the local
masonry, chose to flee as quickly as she could on her bad leg.

"than to argue". That is, incidentally, a marvellous turn of phrase.

by the bomb, made into an incredibly and strong monstrosity...or a really

Description: Some kind of original fantasy. Might be interesting, if only

easily read?

  Date:
        Mon, 03 May 1999 22:03:50 -0700
  From:
        Chris Jones <guilty@arn.net>

Description: Only Ranma has refused the gift of vampirism and Akane's
decision to accept it has placed a vast divide between them.

Comments: You know, really, garlic should work. Superhuman sense of
smell and all that. Similarly I'm inclined to think that at least a slight
aversion to bright light ought to be in there.

Still, score one for the humans. Too bad Ranma didn't have a chance to tell
his mother the vampire about his victory before he found out about Akane.
Mind you I have trouble with the idea of a vampire giving birth to a more
or less normal human. Are Ranma and Ryoga dhampires?

Description: As before, a comical recast of Ranma with other anime characters

Some indications in this chapter that the author agrees.

although teen dramas aren't a major fave of mine.

About "Lost". Using my incredible psychic powers I shall predict what the
important thing the author has to say might be...

"Picking on social outcasts is a bad thing that can have tragic consequences."

Whether I'm right or not, there's a problem with transplanting that Columbine
into Japan. It doesn't work there. People don't go postal with automatic
weapons in Japan, because to get one you have to be either military or a connected
professional criminal. That makes using Gosunkugi for this story a rather contrived
effort to technically qualify the story as fanfic.

Thats not to say that social outcasts can't do something extreme. But, without
bringing magic, psychic powers and the like into the equation, the response would
probably be a suicide pact, or something involving poisoning. Personally,
if I was going to do a Columbine inspired story, I'd probably make it an
"Ogreslayer" fanfic.
