Okay I just got asked whether I knew why _everyone_ gives Cologne and

Happosai's age as 300.  Is it something from the anime or a fanfic
convention?

I do know in the VIZ translation she says something like, "I haven't lived

for a hundred years for nothing..."

something you think everyone should know...


I'm posting this publically because this one comes up almost often enough
to qualify as a 'dead horse', and I'm hoping to perhaps stem the tide of
inquiries slightly.

I've done some checking into this...

- According to the VIZ *anime* translation, Cologne is 300 years old,
although with the way she was throwing numbers around in her early
appearances, this is an unreliable number. She does, however, state this to
be her age...in the ANIME, and in the dub version at that.

It *seems* to be a similar number in the raw version, but I can't verify
that yet.

- In the manga, Cologne is slightly over one hundred years old. Best source
to ask for the exact age is Gary Kleppe.

-In the anime, Happousai is apparently only about a hundred years old,
although this would then imply that Cologne was either lying about her age,
or was...ahem...quite well-preserved at age 200, given evidence in the
Nanban mirror episode that Cologne and Happi are of approximately the same
age.

Probably the best way to look at it is that Cologne and Happosai are both
somewhere in their early 100's.
