Technically, that's only supposed to work on rocks, but if it's
important for the plot then I guess it doesn't matter.

No, the Bakusai Tenketsu also works on other inanimate objects like wood
Gar. Check out Manga vol. 33 when Ryouga was turned into a three year old he
used the Tenketsu to blow up some of the floor of the Tendo Dojo.
