The Day Kasumi Cried.

By LizMUN

~How pretty the colors are. Look how the blue and red reflect
out of our old koi pond. The fish don't mind the colors. They don't
seem to mind anything. How I envy them. Look how happy they swim
about, blissfuly unaware the tragedy that has happend.~
Lieutenant Fujiko hated this part of the job, but it was a
living. She had been working for Tokyo's homicide department for
eight years now. Not bad, considering she's only twenty-nine. Young,
yeah. Single.. let's not get into it. Nerima wasn't her assigned
district, but she lived there. Yes there was the occasional public
disturbances, but as far as anything fatal happening, hardly there was
ever such an occurance. It was because of this fact, she was
surprised as hell when she recieved a call from the office to help
investigate a multiple homicide. What surprised her even more, was
the place of the said murders; the Tendo Dojo.
The Tendo Dojo. Ground Zero for all the kidnappings,
manifestations for martial art competitions and what-not. The house
belonged to Soun Tendo, a widower who had three daughters of his own.
But these four weren't the only occupants of the household. Ranma and
Genma Saotome lived with the Tendos, along with a Happosai.. well no
last name was given. Ranma was bethrowed to Akane Tendo. But these
were just facts she found in the database. It's common knowledge to
everyone in Nerima.
It seems that ever since the Saotomes had arrived with the
Tendos, there hasn't been a day of normality ever since. With the
arrival of the youngest Saotome, rivals would arrive and cause mass
distruction. But not only rivals, but enamores, who claim to also be
engaged to the boy. The youngest Tendo wasn't excempted of this. She
too had her share of those interested with her. Like a whole swarm of
adolecent, hormone-imbalanced, teenage boys fighting for a right to
date her. But of course, these were the facts. What wasn't a fact,
was that any serious casualties came with these factors. Why now?
Lt. Fujiko sighed as she drove up to the site. Already
barricades had been place to attempt to keep curious onlookers at bay.
She showed her badge to an officer that was guarding the barricade,
and he nodded. He then called other officers to allow her through.
She got out of her car and yawned. She was a mess. It was past
midnight. She only got about thirty minutes of sleep when the call
came. She could tell that her short-black hair looked like a clogged
drain pipe. But, vanity wasn't an issue to this job. Why couldn't
the people be more considerate and did their duty after she'd gotten
her sleep. She knew it was the lack of sleep talking there, so she
ignored it, and went to her commanding officer, Lt. Ryuu.
	"What are the damages?"
Lt. Ryuu was an elderly man. The hair that he had left from
his balding head, was thin and white. Yet, though he was near
retirement age, he hardly looked like it. He was athletic looking,
strong and regal. If he had been at least twenty years younger, she'd
consider dating him. But the guy's already married, so again, she
considered her thoughts to be influenced by the lack of sleep and
disregared it. She approached Ryuu. The man looked up from his
clipboard, and shook his head at Fujiko.
"We've got six dead, and five injured. Two of the injured are
suspects to the crime. Two officers confronted the subjects, and
gunshots were exchanged. The officers came out with gunwounds to the
legs, shoulder and arms. The suspects, however, are in critical
condition."
"What of the fifth one? The fifth injured. You only explained
four."
"Ah, yes, lucky girl she was. Kasumi Tendo. Seems the only
reason why she survived the massacre, was that her father used himself
to shield her. But still, she only suffered a gunshot to the arm, and
a blow to the head, from what it looks like."
	"Where is she?"
Ryuu pointed toward inside the gates. There a blood-stained
young woman sat on the porch, looking blankly into the abyss. Her
head was wrapped in a bandage, which was already seeping with blood
from the wound. A thermal had been placed around her shoulders to
help ease the shock. Fujiko felt pity for her, but had to put aside
that emotion. She needed to question the girl, and her own crying
would not get any answers. She walks up to her, and places her hand
at the officer trying to confort the girl. The officer looks up,
nods, says a few parting words to the miss, and leaves. Fujiko sits
next to Kasumi. For a while, nothing is said.
	"Would you like some tea?"
Fujiko blinked. She was expecting the girl to be crying her
eyes out. Her family had been killed, and here she was, offering tea?
"Uh... no thank you. I'm fine."
Kasumi nods, then goes back starring into nothingness. Fujiko
hated to rush things, but if she pressured the girl, she would be
liable to break down. So she waited a bit longer. Then, she spoke.
"Ms. Tendo, I am Lt. Yusa Fujiko, I'm with the Tokyo homicide
Agency, and I'd like to ask you a few questions."
	"Of course."
By the heavens, this girl was so calm it was unnerving. Years
of training didn't say anything about people like her. But then
again, there were things she aquired that wasn't in her training. She
continued.
"Ms. Tendo, I know this is sudden but.."
	"Kasumi."
	"Huh?"
"Please, call me Kasumi." She smilled. Fujiko couldn't help
but smile back. What's with this girl?
"Kasumi, do you feel you can tell me what happened?"
Kasumi's smile dropped. She nodded, and looked up.
	"Kasumi?"

	"Kasumi?"
	"Yes Father?"
Kasumi looked up from the sink, and out the window. The sun
was setting behind the walls of the garden. The clothes were in their
final stages of drying. Kasumi had better bring them in later. She
finishes drying the last of the dishes, and wipes her hands upon her
apron. She nods in approval, and peeks out toward the dinning hall.
There, her father and Uncle Saotome were playing their game. They
still had tea in their cups, perhaps it had gone bad. Oh my, when was
the last time she checked the box?
	"Father? Is something wrong?"
	"Kasumi, where is Ranma?"
Kasumi smiled. The tea was alright. It's not much, but it
reflected as her position of matriarch of the household, although she
seldom ordered anyone around. To have bad tea was to mean she wasn't
doing her best as keeper of the household.
"Ranma's with Akane, sparring in the dojo. Would you like me
to bring them?"
	"Yes, Kasumi. Thank you."
Kasumi walked towards the dojo. Already she could hear
Akane's protests to Ranma's lack of participation. When will her
youngest sister learn, that Ranma cares for Akane too much to harm
her. She shakes her head. She slides open the door and peeks in.
She blinked at the sight.
Ranma was rubbing a goose-egg of a lump from his head. Akane
had turned her heels and was heading toward her direction. The cause
of the injury, a large mallot.
	"Ranma? Akane?"
Akane looks up from her fumming, and blinks at Kasumi.
	"Yeah sis?"
Kasumi couldn't help but worry about the lump on Ranma's head.
He was groggly walking toward Akane and herself.
"Oh my! Ranma, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Kasumi. Of Course, Macho-man Akane here has to
overreact to the littlest things."
	"Ranma, You're such a jerk!"
Kasumi sighed as Akane once again kicked her fiance into the
stratosphere.
"Akane, when Ranma gets back, father would like to speak to
you both."
"What Now!? ARGH! *Sighs* Thanks sis."
Kasumi smiles. Now.. to take down the laundry.

	"KASUMI!"
"Excuse me Sir, But you can't pass here!"
The officer grabbed the man from his shoulders, and pulled him
back behind the barricades. The man squirmed under the officer's
grip, and re-attempted to get past.
"I must see if Kasumi is alright?"
	"Are you family, sir?"
"I'm the family physician. Dr. Ono Tofu."
"I would need to see some identification, please."
"I'M A DOCTOR, DAMN YOU! LET ME PASS!"
	"What's going on here?"
Lt. Ryuu walks up to where the commotion was centered, and
see's an officer, restraining a man, who was set on getting through.
"This man claims to be the family physician." The officer
stated, dully. He'd rather be sleeping then blocking mad-men from a
crime-scene.
"Sir, I'm afraid I cannot let you pass."
"What happened, I demand to know what has just happend?"
	"Your name, sir?"
"Dr. Ono Tofu, I'm the family's physican.. Now, can you tell
me what's going on here?"
"Please calm down Doctor, or I shall have to restrain you.
This is no place to chat. Follow me."
Dr. Tofu reluctantly followed the man. He'd rather go
directly into the household to check up on the occupants, but then he
knew he would be restrained, and would never get the chance.
Ryuu leads Tofu toward a squad-car. He motions for the doctor
to sit in the passanger side, and hands him a cup of coffee. The
doctor declines the cup.
"Dr. Tofu, I'm sorry to say that there has been a murder
within the walls of the Tendo Dojo. According to witnesses, it seems
that several gang-members of another district had come to challenge
the dojo in their own terms. Only one of the occupants survived. I'm
sorry, but that's all I'm required to give."
Dr. Tofu had gone pale. He was shaking violently. He had
been fearing the worst when he first heard of the news via a close
client, but to actually hear it to be true.
	"Who... who survived?"
Ryuu looked again at his clipboard. He was getting worse with
names with his age.
"A Ms. Kasumi Tendo.. But at the moment she's being
questioned..."
"Kasumi? She's Alive!? I must go see her!"
"Hold on, doc, she's being questioned at the moment, so you're
going to have to wait."
"No! I must see if she's hurt! Kasumi!" Tofu bolts out of the
passenger's seat, and pushed Ryuu out of his way.
	"Shit. Officers! Restrain that man!"
Three officers broke from their positions at the barricade,
and grabbed onto Tofu's arms. Tofu, wanting to get to Kasumi as soon
as possible, applied several of his skills at the unsuspecting
officers. Several other officers, seeing their comrads down on the
ground, assumed the worst, and pulled out their pistols at the doctor.
	"FREEZE! PUT YOUR HANDS UP!"
Tofu stopped, and blink at the guns pointed at him. He did
exactly as told. Ryuu approached him, and pulled down an arm at a
time, and began to handcuff him.
"Sorry Doc, it's for your own good. I'll make sure you get to
speak with your "patient" after her questioning, alright. But for
now, I'll have to confine you into the squad-car."
All Tofu could do is nod, and worry that Kasumi would be
alright.

Kasumi was now drinking tea at the table. The laundry had
been folded and brought in. It was now her time to relax. She got by
every day, knowing that what she did, helped her family. She felt
useful that way. It was nice to be needed.
Kasumi looks up at her father. Ranma had returned back from
his... "trip," and were now waiting patiently for Soun to address him
and Akane.
"Yo, Mr. Saotome? You said you wanted to see us?"
Soun looked up from the game board. This gave Uncle Saotome a
chance to quickly re-arrange several of the pieces to his favor. Of
course, only Soun was ignorant of the occurance. Soun reached into
his gi, and pulled out a piece of paper. He handed it to Ranma.
	Ranma read it, and blinked.
	"You've got to be kidding."
	Soun shook his head.
Akane, having her curiosity getting the best of her, snatched
the paper away from Ranma, and began to read the letter out loud.
"Tendo Dojo occupants. In two days, we shall be arriving at
your gates to offer a business proposal. The reason of our business
is to offer our protection for a price. If you decline our generous
offer, we shall not be held accountable for any accidents that may
happen afterwards."
	"Well, this was unexpected."
Kasumi looked up, and saw that Nabiki had joined the group.
Kasumi got up and went to the kitchen to get some more tea. When she
arrived, she saw that Grandfather Happosai had as well joined.
"Would you like some Tea, Grandfather?"
	"Why thank you, Kasumi!"
Soun was wailing, and clenching into Ranma's silk shirt.
Ranma was trying his best to pry him off.
"Ranma, it's your job as heir to the school to deal with these
matters."
"Don't worry, Mr. Tendo! I'll teach those jerks no one messes
with Ranma Saotome! Two days huh? That'll give me plenty of time."
Soun gulped, and let go of Ranma's shirt. He looks up
innocently.
"Actually.. I got the letter two days ago so they might be on
their way."
	"WHAT?"
Kasumi blinked. Oh my! She looks out at the garden, and
see's that the koi had leaped out from his pond, majesticly flying
temporarly into the air. Something big was about to happen.
Just then, the door knocked. Kasumi got up to greet the
guests. She walked down the hallway, and slid open the front door.
She saw a man, dressed in a tuxedo, minus the tie. Kasumi smiled, and
bowed.
"Hello, how may I help you?"
	"This the Tendo Dojo?"
Not wanting to be rude to her guests, she nodded, and moved
away from the entrance.
"Yes. Would you like to come in for some tea."
The man blinked. Chuckled a bit, and nodded.
	"Yes, thank you."
Kasumi lead the man toward the living room/dinning room.
"It seems we have a guest, Father. Your name sir?"
The man was looking around, mostly out at the garden.
Snapping his attention back at Kasumi, he bows at those in the room.
"Kenshito, Shinji Kenshito. I believe you recieved a letter?"
"So you're the guy threatening us?" Akane shot up, fumming.
"Threatening? I'd like to say, we're advertising our
business."
It was now Ranma who shot up from his seat.
"Ain't no way we're going to let you boss us around."
Kenshito sighed. Why couldn't they do things the easy way.
"I'm sorry to hear that. I'm afraid I have nothing else to
stay for. It's been nice knowing you."
Kasumi had already poured the tea to the guest, but when she
looked up, she saw that he had disapeared. She shrugged, and handed
the cup toward Happosai, who began to sip it, noisly.
"I don't like this! That was too easy." Nabiki was now deep in
thought about the situation.
The room was unfamiliarly quiet. Not even the crickets, that
sung the place to sleep everynight, was heard. Suddenly, Ranma looked
out toward garden.
	"EVERYONE! GET DOWN!"
What she once thought were fire-crackers comming from behind
the garden, proved to be deadly bullets, impaling themselves into the
walls, and to those into the room. Ranma pushed Akane down, and used
himself as a sheild. The cups in the table shattered as bullets went
right through them. Then, she felt someone push her down, she didn't
have time to look at her savior, for at that moment, she hit her head
against the edge of the table, and everything went black. She woke up
to find her father looking down at her. His eyes were open, but
something was wrong.
	"Father?"
No response. Her head throbed, so did her arm for some reason.
But first, she must think about her family. She thought that maybe
her father had lost consiousness, and gently moved him aside. But as
she pushed him away, she felt something cold and sticky. She looked
at her hands, and saw them, covered in blood. She shrieked.
Trembling, she looked toward her sisters. Nabiki's shirt was stained
with red in three places. Her hands, lifeless at her side. Genma had
gotten the most hits, being closer to the guarden than the rest of
them. Grandfather Happosai, only one bullet. Between the eyes. She
looked toward Ranma. He had tried to save Akane's life by giving up
his own, but little did he know that he was too late. Akane had been
shot through her neck, and a puddle of blood was forming under her.
Ranma had several bullet holes pierced into his back. He was lying on
top of Akane. They'll be together forever now. No one can seperate
them any longer.
She heard sirens in the distance. She got on her knees, and
began to pray.
"Mother, please take care of them."
Again, only since her mother died, did Kasumi break down, and
began to cry.

Fujiko closed her eyes. She should get used to it, she told
herself. Hell right. She'll never get used to this. Stories of
families and friends lost were common with her job. Made her wonder
why she chose this proffesion in the first place. She looks up at
Kasumi, and saw her again starring into the nothingness. Fujiko got
up, and held out her hand at Kasumi, who seemed to be ignoring it.
"Come'on Kasumi, dear. There's nothing for you here."
Kasumi blinks, causing a tear to free itself from her eyes,
and slide down her pale cheeks. She nodded, and held Yusa's hand.
Yusa pulled her up, and wrapped herself around Kasumi in an embrace.
It was against regulations, but to hell with it. Kasumi blinked. Her
body was trembling, until, suddenly, she wrapped her arms tight around
Yusa, and began to sob violently.
Yusa smiled, then began to lead her toward the ambulance
outside the gates. All in a day's work.
