Now, perhaps I'm misremembering (don't have access to my fanfiction 
archives at the moment), but didn't Asuka reveal during her argument 
with Gendo that she knew that most peoplewho test to be pilots wound up 
insane, or worse? Knowing that, would she actually be *happy* for her 
"sister" to be tested, running the same risk?

She has a high opinion of Anna's ability to survive the testing.  She is
worried, but she thinks that if Shinji can hack it, of course Anna can :)
She believes it's a matter of how strong your mind is, and she's sure Anna
has a strong mind.  She will worry some when she gets closer to the test
date, though.
