Actually... Akane IS a homicidal maniac! Kasumi said so in the very first
chapter of the manga and episode of the anime! And I quote... "Akane is a
nice girl, she is just a homicidal maniac."

Well, actually I think it's a wee bit more likely that Dr. Mizuno is nuts.  
However, what you say about Nabiki isn't really true.  Takahashi herself
is less than complimentary about Nabiki, and I have a tankubon which contains
a cover showing her sporting horns and a tail as she controls Ranma and Akane
puppets.
