Something is Out There (Dark Revision)
Author Foward: I just wanted to make two things known. First, this is a rewrite of my first ever fic. It started as an adventure comedy, but it is now aimed toward the dark fic side. Some of the original comedy still remains in the first four chapters. However, in the later chapters the dark adventure side is expressed more. Second, the character Meachi is not a self instertion. Please remeber that this was my first ever fic, and I created a character with a name that I could remeber, that was also similar to Tenchi's name. Our names are spelled different and sound different. Also, his character design is nothing like what I look like. The only thing that I gave him that can be traced back to me (besides the name) is a scare in the shape of an exclaimation mark on one of his forearms. I have those character designs if anyone wants to challenge that. Anyway, read and enjoy.

Chapter 1
"Ah...Things are back to normal"
*Well sort of*
It has been a week since Washu began to bring Muyaka back. Things
have pretty much began to quiet down and return back to normal.
Well make that as close to normal as they can get. Tenchi is back
to school and training at the shrine with his grandfather. With
Muyaka gone for the time being, the ill-willed team up between Ayeka
and Ryoko has run dry and they are once again literally fighting
for Tenchi affection. Sasami and Mihoshi are back to their chores
and comics. Kiyone is back to looking for part-time work and Nobuyuki is away doing a photo shoot in Tokyo. Everything is back to the way
it was. Unfortunately, peace never seems to last to long in the Masaki house.
Around noon, Mihoshi and Kiyone were doing some yard work when the
vid-phone, that they salvaged from Yagami, began to ring. Mihoshi
heard it first. She looked at her partner and spoke out, "Hey Kiyone,
the vid-phone is ringing. I wonder who it could be?" A look of
annoyance and frustration over took Kiyone's face. She yelled back,
"Mihoshi use your head, it's has to the Galaxy Police calling us.
Who else would call the vid-phone?!"
Tears began to form in Mihoshi's eyes as she wimperingly replied,
"I'm sorry. You don't have to be so mean. I didn't....." Before she could say another word Kiyone cut her off.
"Look, don't worry about it Mihoshi, just answer the phone before
Head Quarters hangs up. You CAN do that, can't you?"
"Okay Kiyone, I'll be right back." Before the words completely
came out of her mouth, she had started for the front door. She
headed to the room with the vid-phone. When she got there she quickly
turned it on. However, something strange happened as soon as she pushed the on button. The screen came up, but it was all snowy and the sound was pure static.
***
Thirty minutes passed by and Kiyone had finished with the yard.
She was so taken by the rare silence that she had forgotten about
Mihoshi. Kiyone had not missed her until she noticed that she finished
the entire yard by herself. "Oh!!!! Where is she! This had better
been a very important call for her to take this long," she yelled to herself. With a look of anger on her face she left to find Mihoshi. She headed for the room with the vid-phone. When she got there, she was exposed to an unusual site. Mihoshi was inches away from the vid-phone, the wierd thing was that she was staring into a blank screen. This is odd, even by her standards, her partner thought to herself. Kiyone no longer looked angry, but curious instead. She walked over to Mihoshi and put her hands on her shoulders. Mihoshi slowly turned her head around and looked at Kiyone. Her facial expression was completely emotionless. When Kiyone looked into her eyes, it was like Mihoshi's body was there, but her mind was in an entirely different place. The silence in the room was broken when Mihoshi spoke, "I will return." Her expression then went back to its usual dopey look.
"I will return??? "What in the world do you mean by that?"
"Mean by what Kiyone?"
"What you just said."
"What did I just say?"
"You just said, "I will return."
Mihoshi paused for a second to concentrate on the question. She
then snapped to attention and said, "Oh! I get it... This is a
trick question, right? Okay, If I said, "I will return," but I'm
already here -- I'll be here, when I leave. Wait a second, that's not right."
With that final idiotic remark Kiyone storms out of the room with
her hands on her head, as she prepare for the headache that will some
come she said, "Why do I even try?" When Kiyone was completely out of the room. Mihoshi turned back to the vid-phone's screen and continued to stare off into nothing.
Chapter 2
Hi I'm Meachi
During the day Tenchi spent his time in school. Today a new student
was introduced to the class by the teacher.
"Hello everyone, I would like you to met Meachi Rode. He will be
spending the rest of the school year with us. Since he lives close
to the Masaki shrine, will you show him around today Tenchi?"
"Yes Ma'am."
"Thank you Tenchi. Meachi since this is your first day, it would
be best for you stay close to Tenchi-san. Nukia will you please
move to the other side of the room so Meachi can sit closer to Tenchi."
"Yes, Ma'am."
As Meachi went to his new seat he thanked the young lady who it
formerly belonged to, as he walked by her. When he got there, he properly greeted Tenchi by bowing.
"Ah.... There is no need to bow on my account. Hi, my name is
Tenchi Masaki. The shrine that you live near belongs to my family.
If there is anything that you need let me know.
"Actually, I would like to see your family's shrine. If that is
okay with you. I'm looking for a job, and since I used to do chores at the shrine at my old home; I thought that would be a nice place to work."
"I don't see why we can't go to the shrine, but if your looking
for work there have to speak to my grandfather. We can go there after school."
"Thank you Tenchi-san."
As the school day came to an end, Tenchi and Meachi left to the
Masaki Shrine. As they walked, they spoke about their lives and found that they had many things in common. Tenchi lost his mother when he was young. Meachi lost both of his parents when he was young also. His grandfather, a fighting monk, taught and took care of him. Much like Tenchi's grandfather trains him now. Both of the young men are skilled in swordsmanship. They spoke to each other like they where old friends getting reacquainted.
When they got up the steps to the shrine. They were met be Ryoko, who was teleporting in from no where. Meachi was startled by her. He jumped back and lost his footing, causing him to fall and hit his head.
***
"What happen to me. Ahhh, my head is killing me."
When Meachi began to open his eyes, he was almost blinded by the
light above him. He slowly began to focus. When he looked upward
again he saw the most beautiful thing in all of his life. It was
like an angel with a halo glowing around her head. The light that
surrounded her made it hard to see her face, but Meachi fought hard
to capture a glimpse of the wonderful creature that called him back
into consciousness.
"Don't worry, you'll be alright."
"Thank you, I now know that I will be."
With those finale words he fell back unconscious. When he woke up, he
was inside of the Masaki house. In front of him was
Sasami with a bowl of soup.
"Here eat this, you'll need it to get your strength back."
She handed him the bowl and got up from where she was sitting.
"Wait here I'm going to get Tenchi and Ayeka. TENCHI!!!!!! AYEKA!!!!!
Come down quick, Meachi has woken up."
She ran back over to Meachi and said, "They'll be down in a minute."
"Ah.... You're finale awake. Are you feeling any better. For a
second we thought we were going to have to take you to a hospital."
It was Tenchi who was coming down the steps.
Agruhhhh... I'm okay. I've got a splitting headache, but it will go away.
At that moment Ryoko entered the room by teleporting behind Meachi.
"Hey." Meachi turned around to see the same face that came out of nowhere
at the shrine.
"Ahhhh!!! It's the demon that attacked me earlier." Feeling
that she should live up to the accusation she sarcastically replied, "BOO!!!"
"Stop it Ryoko, haven't you done enough to this young man."
It was the same voice that called to him when he was fading in his weak consciousness. Meachi stood up and began searching for the direction that it came from. He looked over to the doorway and saw her. She was just as beautiful now as she was then. At the same time Tenchi stood up. He dropped his head downward and began running his hand up and down the back of his own neck, as he began to direct his speach toward Meachi.
"I'm sorry Meachi. I should have warned you about everyone here,"
said Tenchi. However, his words fell to death ears. The only thing
that Meachi could see or hear was the earth angel before him. He
was speechless and motionless before her. In fact he didn't move
until Sasami broke his concentration, by tugging on his pants leg.
"Hi. I'm Sasami, are you feeling any better now? The one that made you fall is Ryoko."
"With a face like her's, I understand why you were almost scared
to death," said the girl whom was coming in. "Hello, my name is Ayeka.
"You are the angel I saw. You are the one that I heard before I blacked out."
"It really was not that much. You just got a bad bump on your head."
"I still would like to thank you," said Meachi. He couldn't stop
staring at her. She was perfect in every way. Ryoko walked over
to him and began to knock on his head, as if it were a door.
"Hey kid! Earth to Meachi. Hmmm. You've really got it bad for her, don't you?"
Surprised by what she said, he was instantly shot back to reality.
Ryoko grabbed Meachi by his hand and turned to the others. "It's
getting late. I think it will be best for me to take Meachi home."
Without waiting for any agreement from the others, or Meachi for that matter, she teleports herself and him out of the room.
They reappeared outside of the house. As soon as they were completely
teleported, Meachi jerked away from Ryoko. He looked with an expression that was a mix between fear and anger.
"What are you?!"
"That's not important right now, just consider me a friend." She
put on a sincere face and then said, "I feel terrible about making
you hurt your head. I wish only to make it up to you."
She turned away and stared up into the night's sky. This was to
keep Meachi from seeing the smile that was forming on her face. "I see you like Ayeka."
"You can tell that?"
"Don't worry I'm not going to go tell everyone. I want to help.
It is the least that I can do. Just imagine me as your own personal cupid."
"Would you really help me?"
"Of course I will. I want to be your friend, and if it takes
pairing you up with my closest friend Ayeka -- so be it."
"Thank you. I'm really sorry that I called you a demon."
"Don't mention it." She smirked and softly murmured, "You know,
you were right." Within seconds, she began to teleport. As she
first started to fade away she told Meachi, "I'll met you tomorrow."
"Where will I find you?"
"Don't worry, I'll find you." With that she was completely gone.
Meachi scratched his head as he walked off. "Strange girl. I probably
shouldn't trust her, but I must if she will help me," he thought to himself. After a few minutes he reached a small house. On the inside was an old looking man. He was meditating on the floor. Meachi walked up beside him and got down on his knees. The room was silent for a
while. Then the old man spoke.
"How was your first day at the new school."
"School was okay Grandpa, I guess? I made a new friend. His
family owns the shrine on down the road."
"Hmmm. What is this young man's name."
"Tenchi Masaki."
His grandfather opened his eyes and looked toward Meachi. "Tenchi
you say.... Hmmmm." He turned back to the wall that was facing him.
"Did you speak with the care taker of the shrine."
"No. I did not get a chance to see him today, but I do know that he is Tenchi's grandfather."
"What have you been doing all day then?"
"It's hard to explain, but it involves the most beautiful girl in
the world. Her name is Ayeka. I met her at Tenchi's house. I kinda hurt my head and lost track of time, but she helped me wake up."
"It is nice that you found a young lady that you like, but do not
forget you have other things that you must do. Speaking with the
priest of the shrine is very important."
"I will speak with him tomorrow."
"Good. There are some egg rolls and rice in the kitchen. Before
you eat, I want you to practice using your bokken."
"Yes Grandfather. I will start now."
Meachi rose from the ground and went out the room. His grandfather
remained in the position that he was in. He began to think to himself.
Could this be a coincidence or could that this Tenchi be one in the same with the name that was in his family scrolls. Meachi must be prepared if he is. Meachi's Grand father only hoped that he had taught him enough. The old man lifted himself off the ground. He walked over to a window, and peered outside. Meachi was in his sight, through the window. The old man began to think out loud as he observed his grandson.
"This leaf is unique compared to all of the others on the tree,
so fragile and delicate and yet so strong. It shakes in the wind,
but refuses to be blown away. It's battle is null invoid, as it
will eventually have to succumb to it's master the wind. I wish that I could only keep him away from his fate, but I know I can not. I will have to review our family's birthright scroll again tonight, in hope for some guidance."
Chapter 3
Ryoko: The matchmaker from Hell
The next morning, Sasami was in the kitchen preparing breakfast.
Tenchi was running late so he only grabbed an apple as he ran out
the door. Ayeka, Sasami, and Ryoko could barely say bye as he shot
past them. A few seconds afterward, Kiyone came into the kitchen.
"Good morning, everyone." As she walked up she closed her eyes
and inhaled the auroma of the cooking food. "Mummmm. That
smells good. What is it, Sasami?"
"I thought I'd try something different today, so I made
scrambled eggs and Canadian bacon"
"It looks like ham to me. Speaking of which. Have you seen
Mihoshi this morning."
"Yes, I saw her when I first came into the kitchen this morning.
She was acting weird, and she keep on saying "Soon." Do you
know what is wrong with her."
"No, but I'm sure that Washu can tell me. When was the last time
she left her lab?"
"I'm not to sure, she has been really busy in there. No one has even seen her in the past few days, but she most come out for food. So the next time she does I'll tell her your looking for her.
"Thanks Sasami."
***
Tenchi was on his way to school. Along the way he saw Meachi.
They greeted each other, and then continued on their way together.
"Meachi about yesterday...."
"Let me guess, you don't want me to spread around information about your home. Right..."
"Yeah, how could you tell?"
"If I had your life, I don't think I would want it publicized."
The two stopped and laughed. After Meachi regained his composure,
he asked; "Tenchi, this is none of my business -- but I was wondering
if you would tell me about your relationship with......"
Before he could finish the sentence he was interrupted by someone
yelling in the distance.
"TENCHI!!! TENCHI!!! You forgot your lunch."
It was Ayeka. She ran up in between the two young men. When she
got there she was trying to catch her breath, from the long run.
"You... Left your... Lunch back at... The house... <Whew>
"Ayeka, you didn't have to run all the way out here to give it to me."
"I don't mind. Actually I wanted to do it. Nothing could have
keep me from bringing it to you."
"Thank you, Ayeka. Is there anything that I can do for you?"
She turned her head away from Tenchi and blushed. In doing so, she was now facing Meachi's direction. He had been forgotten
during the entire conversation.
"Oh. Hello Meachi."
He replied, "Hello Ayeka, it is good to see you again." He was
hiding the disappointment inside of himself.
"We better get going Tenchi, or we're going to be late for class. Bye Ayeka."
With that they continued on their way. When they arrived, they
took their seats. Unfortunately Meachi's spirit was a little broken now.
***
The day seemed to take forever to end. When it finally did,
Tenchi and Meachi left together.
"Did you finish the assignment on page 176 Meachi. Hello.... Meachi..."
"Oh, I'm sorry. My mind was a little pre-occupied. What did you say?"
"I just asked about the classwork that we had to do."
"Ahhh. I haven't started on it yet! I guess I will have to do
it all for homework tonight."
"When we get to the shrine, I can show you what I have so far."
"Thank you."
When they reached the steps to the Shrine, they were met by Ryoko. She was sitting on a limb of a nearby tree. She floated down
and spoke to the two young men.
"Hi guys."
They both said hi back to her.
"Hey Ryoko, we're heading up to see Grandpa. You want to come too?"
"Maybe later Tenchi. I need to ask Meachi something, before you
both go up. Alone please, if you don't mind?"
Tenchi cut his eyes toward Ryoko, and sarcastically asked, "What
are you up to this time?"
She quickly drew back and replied, "Up to?! Why would I be up to
anything? All I want to do is speak with my friend Meachi"
Tenchi did not look moved by what she said. He looked over at Meachi,
whose body language showed that he didn't know what she wanted either.
Ryoko teleported behind Tenchi and playfully wrapped her arms around him.
"I won't take that long."
Tenchi jerked away from her, and looked back to Meachi with a slightly
embarrassed expression. He regained his composure and started
up the steps. When he was out of sight Ryoko and Meachi began to talk.
"Ryoko, how come you didn't tell me Ayeka likes Tenchi. I can't come between the two of them if they love each other."
"NO!!! I mean, wait. Ayeka doesn't really love Tenchi. She just
likes him because he is the only young guy that she knows. Trust
me, you two would be perfect for each other."
"Do you really mean it?"
"Of course I do. Now this is how you can win her over. First of
all you should buy her a big expensive gift. Something like jewelry or a fur."
"I can't do that."
"Why not?"
Meachi put his hands in his pocket and pulled out two fist full
of air and lint. Ryoko looked at this sight and sighed. She wasn't
sure but she could have sworn she saw a butterfly come out of his pocket.
"I guess you could picks some flowers for free."
Ryoko closed her eyes and started concentrating. She was trying
to remember what kind of flowers Ayeka liked the most.
"Does it matter what kind I should get?
"Who cares, just go out and pick some."
Meachi immediately went to the last place he saw some lotus flowers.
He remembered that there was some at the edge of the lake. He almost fell in as he pick six of the long stem flowers. With the reward of his effort in his hands, he left to the Masaki house. When he got there he looked inside through a window and saw Ayeka. His heart
began to beat faster.
Meachi choked down the excitement that he was feeling and knocked
on the door. He then put the hand that held the flowers behind
his back. At that moment a bee climbed into one of the flower bulbs,
just before Ayeka answered the door.
"Hello Meachi."
"Hi Ayeka, I was out today and I got something that I think you
might like. Close your eyes.
Ayeka smiled at the news and closed her eyes as she was told. Meachi
put the flowers up to her nose. She began to inhale the fragrance that they released. Then she heard one of them buzz. She quickly opened her eyes and saw the large orange and black striped insect. She turned around and hurried to get away from it. Meachi was shocked at what just happened. He wanted to go after her, but instead he ran away. Ryoko appeared in front of him.
"That didn't go too well."
"THERE WAS A BEE IN THE FLOWERS!!!"
"So you made a mistake. This really isn't my fault. You couldn't
find any other flowers to give to her. Hmm... I know it might look
bad, but don't worry I can still make everything work out."
"OHHH NOOO!!! I don't think that I will need your help anymore."
"Hmph. Do you really think that you can do it by yourself after
what happened just now. You need me now more than every."
Meachi was still mad, but he knew that she was right. He knew nothing
about what a young lady liked, and without help he had no chance
what so ever. He knew he had no choice but to give her another chance.
"Look I will give you a second chance, but there can be no more
mistakes. I must go to the shrine to see Tenchi's grandfather,
and later I will apologize to Ayeka. I don't want any more
help from you tonight."
"Okay, suit yourself." said Ryoko. She then teleported away.
Meachi then went to the shrine. He was still a little upset about the flowers. When he reached the steps he began go up them slowly. With every step he took, his thoughts reflected on Ayeka. When he reached the last step he focused back on speaking with Tenchi's grandfather. He saw Tenchi practicing his swordsmanship in front of the Shrine. Up and to his left was an old looking man, who was overseeing Tenchi's sword excersies. Meachi thought to himself, this must be his grandfather. When Tenchi saw Meachi he put his bokken down.
"Hey Meachi, I was starting to wonder if you would ever get up here.
What did Ryoko want with you?"
"Oh, it was nothing important."
Tenchi waved Meachi over to where he was standing, "Let me introduce
to you, Meachi Rode. Meachi this is my grandfather, Lord Katsuhito
Masaki." Meachi walked in front of him and bowed.
"Thank you for meeting with me sir. I am not sure if Tenchi told
you or not, but I was wondering if you could use some help
maintaining the shrine."
"Hmmm. Do you have any experience with working at a shrine."
"Yes sir. I used to work with my grandfather at the shrine
that was at my old home."
"What is your grandfather's name?"
"Watura Rode. We live not to far from your shrine."
"Meachi, let me see your hands." Meachi presented his hands to
Lord Katsuhito. He glance at the right hand first. Then the left.
He took Meachi's left hand and studied it closely. "Hmmm..."
He let go of his hand and turned away from him. The old man started
walking toward one of the statues. There was a bokken leaning up
against it. He picked it up and tossed it toward Meachi. The bokken
was traveling directly toward his face, but he managed to catch
it by the handle in his left hand as it sailed toward him.
"Nice catch."
"What am I going to do with this."
"Nothing. I was testing a theory. You are trained in the ways
of the sword, I see. You're left handed too."
"How could you tell that, by just looking at my hands."
"When you get to reach my age and have my experience you know what
to look for to understand a person. I have to do some thinking
about a helper. Right now Tenchi does most of the maintenance around
here. I'll let you know if I need some more help tomorrow. No
matter what feel free to come here if you need help."
Meachi released the bokken then bowed and thanked Lord Katsuhito.
He then turned around to leave. Tenchi walked up to him as he
was leaving. Meachi looked at Tenchi with a confused expression on his face.
"Does your grandfather always do that to people that he has just met?"
His expression began to ease up, as Tenchi grinned and began to
scratch his head.
"Don't worry about grandpa, he does that mysterious thing to me
all the time. Hey, if you'd like to, we can spare together.
I'll promise to go easy on you."
Meachi smirked and replied, "Maybe another time, and I think
I can pretty much hold my own."
He then left to the Masaki house. While Tenchi and Meachi were
walking away from the Shrine, Lord Katsuhito had picked up the bokken
that he had thrown to the newcomer. He examined the handle that
Meachi had grasped. The same lines in Meachi hands were burned
into the wood, just as he expected.
