Folks, in case any of you out there don't know, currently available
evidence indicates that Hitomi is *not* a Japanese national. Anything
she says regarding Japanese life, culture, etc. should be taken with a
grain of salt until it can be verified by an actual Japanese person.

Have you considered that Hitomi may be living in Japan, and sending the
fanfics to Edward so as to avoid telephone connection charges that would
make home internet use expensive?  From a friend who performed home study
in Japan, where he lived with a japanese family, all calls are paid for
according to their length, whether they're local or long distance.  That is
my understanding of what he told me.
