Sorry this is so late. Its the crowded part of the semester here.
Mostly comments on the Mythos aspects.
Colonel Christopher Robin hunched over the modified radar screen,
wondering again exactly what the thing was tracking. The NERV staff
and their strange equipment made the US Army officer nervous, but he
had been ordered to cooperate with them. The base was now 'NERV-
ALASKA' for the duration.
This bit and the following paragraphs are really weird. Winnie the
Pooh? In a NGEva/HPL fic? Mr. Biles, while we may tolerate this rather
silly attitude in such things as Furinkan Summer (re: the demon armies
in the temple of the Angry Buddha), this is a serious work.
...Who am I kidding? 'S funny.
Just remember to not go overboard. I mean, sure you've got to have some
humor to balance out the mind-eating tentacle insanity, but the
mind-eating tentacle insanity is what we're here for.
Shinji was revulsed at the entire idea of spending hours in the
entry plug. "How long are we gonna be stuck in there?"
I'm almost certain 'revulsed' is not a real word. This should read
"Shinji was repulsed..." or "Shinji felt revulsion..."
"But our target, the Angel of Winter, may have moved."
"We've dubbed him Salgiel, the Angel of Snow...."
You've contradicted yourself. Ithaqua is either the Angel of Snow or
the Angel of Winter, but not both.
"The LCL will sustain you. You won't need to eat. In fact, your
stomach won't even get empty." Ritsuko said soothingly. "It's
actually quite nutritious."
Eating something that looks a Formless Spawn of Tsathogghua? Ewww...
...Oh god. Don't tell me. Tsathogghua's in Terminal Dogma, isn't he.
And if my memory serves, the Formless Spawn are motile ...um... body
fluids (to put it politely). EWWW.
When Tsathogghua does show up, I expect you have the following dialogue:
Asuka: "Great. We're being set to kill the Easter bunny."
Shinji: "Looks more like a wombat to me..."
An ordinary man would have been cowed by standing before the UN
Security Council, especially when they all were shouting and pounding
on the table with things and pointing fingers. Gendo was no ordinary
man.
This is true. Ordinary men do not have tentacles. ...Wait, that's spawn
of Yog-Sothoth.
This is true. Ordinary men do not have urges to feast on corpses.
...Wait, that's ghoul hybrids.
This is true. Ordinary men do not have tentacle shaped cancers.
...Wait, that's lloigor cultists.
This is true. Ordinary men do not have gills and bulging eyes. ...Wait,
that's the Innsmouth look.
This is true.... (You get the idea.)
The trio formed a triangle around the small metal cylinder, which
looked as much like a keg of beer as it did a bomb. Three fields
that looked like miniature aurora borealises shimmered in front of
outstretched hands, then expanded, forming a triangle of
everchanging, dancing light of all colors and none.
The description of the AT fields sounds sort of like a Colour Out of
Space. This is weird. Did Geihern cast Summon/Bind Colour while
building the Evas? (Unlikely, but still...)
"You weren't jumping anywhere with a broken leg," Shinji said.
"But I couldn't let him pound Rei into the ground like that." His
voice had a hint of anger. "She could have died."
Last time I C&Ced a chapter of CoaEG, I told you how much I like the
angle hinted at in this passage. Same again.
No one had seen Gendo return, and several people started,
whacking buttons and knobs that shouldn't have been whacked. No real
damage was done that couldn't be fixed, however.
However, elsewhere in the command center, a would-be fanfic author
screamed as three hours of writing vanished from his hard drive...
The stars didn't feel quite so friendly anymore, but he couldn't
look away. He tried, but he couldn't quite turn his head. They had
caught him, held him somehow, singing to one another with a song he
couldn't quite hear, only feel the vibrations in his bones.
Something was out there, singing, coming closer, singing the stars
into place for the coming of the...the...It was calling the Angels
forth. Whatever it was. And now the song had caught him, or perhaps
the star. Perhaps it was the star that was singing, or maybe it had
merely lured him into the trap.
When his eyes slammed down, he thought for a moment that he had
escaped, but he could still hear the song, the celestial song of
impending doom. Then sleep took him.
Ah. Ghroth, the Nemesis Star. The Harbinger and the Maker of the Doom
of Worlds. The Singer of Strange Songs, who sings the stars into
rightness. It occurs to me that some problems you just cant handle
with an Eva. Considering that Ghroth is somewhat larger than the moon,
it would be one of those problems.
Heh. Ia Ghroth!
<SNIP the future dream ritual sacrifice>
I've got a Call of Cthulhu/Delta Green adventure coming up. I think
I'll lift your Horrid Rite(TM). Especially since it's the Otaku-Cult.
It's also perverse and somewhat stomach turning.
Nice use of Shub-Niggurath and the Dark Young.
Rei moved so that Shinji could not see it. "Do not look up," she
hissed. Her own back was to the viewscreen now. "Her blessing would
destroy you." She moved closer to him now, reaching out with a hand.
"Wake up."
Rei's awfully knowledgable about this. This should be worrying to
Shinji, if he wasn't in a distracted dream state.
It took the tree cane she had been using and prepared to ram that
down through 02's left eye.
Possibly, "through one of 02's left eyes." ?
Several things happened at once. Asuka gave a great shout over
the comlines. 02's mouth suddenly sprouted dozens of tendrils and
more erupted from its cheeks, brow, and throat, burrowing into the
Angel's foot and holding it fast. The tiny tubes began to throb and
grew darker, sucking fluids from Salgiel's body. A shadow grew under
02's skin as the fluid began to spread through its flesh. And from
above, 00 came into sight. It was not falling, but flying. Great
blue bat-like wings had erupted from its back, Cherubim wings, and
its mandibles convulsively snapped open and shut as it dove down at
the Salgiel's head.
Kewl. So, that mutations from Angels/GOO's are:
00 - Atlach-Nacha - mandibles
Byakhees - wings
01 - Atlach-Nacha - anti-adhesive coat
02 - Rhan-Tegoth - feeding tentacles
The blue of 00's flesh faded to a snow-white color as it
continued its meal. 01 sprouted fangs and claws as it continued its
disgusting feast of grey, crumbling flesh. 02 seemed unchanged if
you didn't count the fact that its leg was clearly not broken
anymore.
00 - Ithaqua - white colouration
01 - Ithaqua - claws and (more) fangs
Gendo and Fuyuutsuki sat in a small room with many TV monitors on
the walls, each showing a different channel. Most of them were news,
reporting outbreaks of cannibalism in towns which had been snowed in
by the great storm, or showing time lapse photography of the storm,
or revealing that the glaciers had advanced a good fifty miles during
what the announcers were calling, 'The Blizzard of the Century'. A
thousand eggheads shouted at each other over what had caused it, with
explanations ranging from the wrath of God to El Nino to aliens to
holes in the ozone layer.
The cannibalism thing you mentioned is called "wendigo psychosis." I
could dig up some reference material on its pathology as observed in
Native American cultures and settlers in the Rocky Mountains and Canada,
if you like.
BTW, was that a reference to the recent Stephen King TV movie?
"Well, we did suspect Springer briefly, but..." Fuyuutuski laughed.
"Hmm. I wonder if the fellow has studied D'erlette's Elemental
theory."
I should point out that modern Mythos writers universally agree that
Derleth's elemental theories (and any elemental theory at all, really)
are ... so much crap. I think that covers it. If NERV's working off of
those ideas, they deserve to be torn limb from limb by polydimensional
tentacled blasphemies from beyond time and space.
But that'll happen anyhow, so it's a moot point.
BTW, I've been putting in a bit of thought about developing insanities
in the NGEva cast. If it's needed, let me know.
Excellent work again. Ia! Ia! Biles fhtagn! RPM fhtagn!
