The Ukyo engagement was clearly her father's idea, *not* Genma's. (The
two in the anime weren't Genma's idea either, if you take the anime as
canon, which I don't.) Genma was willing to be bribed into another
engagement, but he did not go out of his way looking for one.

OTOH, we know very little about Ukyo's father. The one time he is seen,
he is attempting to foist his daughter off on Genma. So why is it
reasonable to believe that hordes of people would come to Genma and
bribe him to betroth their daugters to his son, but not reasonable to
believe that Mr. Kuonji made additional attempts to give away his
daughter?
