There is indeed. The narrator is a character in the story, in her own way. 
I've recieved a mixed response to my approach to the narrator, some seem to 
like it, others (like yourself) find it distracting. She is important to the 
plot, so I'll keep her, but if I get a concensus that she's annoying, I'll 
tone her down somewhat.
