I have two things to say in response to this thread:

1. I won't speculate on the origin of 'Evangelion', although there are a
few obvious sources. 'Eva', on the other hand, is:

(a) Short for 'Evangelion', which is far too long to say in the heat of
actual combat when giving launch and combat orders.
(b) a form of the name 'Eve', with all the obvious Biblical connotations
intact.

2. This has absolutely nothing to do with fanfiction, and seriously does
not need to be continued here. Take it to private e-mail, or to the EVA ML,
before Tybalt has all our asses for breakfast with a side of home fries.

I think your refering to Extra Vehicular Activity Suits.  They are the
protective
space suits that are used that astronauts wear when they go on spacewalks.
This
is an interesting theory, but I doubt that that is the case with the Evas,
since
Anno and several others invovled with Project E have stated that Eva was
used only
as a short of the full name of the units (Synthetic Humanoid Fighter;
Evangelion.)
