Alienation

     "Father, I told you never to call here!"
     "Son, your mother and I miss you!  Don't you understand?  We're
sorry for what happened... it was... a mistake...."
     "What!?" he screamed, "A *mistake*?"  He seethed for a moment,
letting himself calm down before he said something that couldn't be
taken back.  "Father... I left five years ago, alienating all that I
knew, because of that 'mistake'."  
     There was a pause at the other end of the line, then, "Ryunnosuke,
I'm sorry."
     His eye twitched slightly.  "I've told you before, *father*... I am
no longer a person who goes by that name."
     "Your family misses you!  Me, your mother, Nuk...."
     "Shut up!  Damnit!  I don't want to hear it anymore... I'm hanging
up!"  
     Just as he was about to slam the receiver down, his father's voice
broke through the anger once more.  "Ryu... how are your projects
going?"
     He paused... it was always like his father to let his love of work
give the final word in any given situation.  "They're... fine." he
answered after some thought.  If only his father really knew, how much
like himself he truly was.
     "We've been following your grades, and as long as you keep it up we
don't mind that you need time to yourself.  All of us here just hope you
return someday.  Goodbye... son."
     He stood with the phone to his ear long after the click announced
that he was once again alone in the world.
     "Hiroshi... who was that?"
     Well, maybe not entirely alone.  He smiled softly, put the phone in
the cradle and turned to his sister.  "No one, Marie...."
END
Having just seen My Dear Marie... this was something that plagued me
almost from the first minute of the show.  It is quite good...
especially the third episode... quite unique.  I have only seen one
fanfic on this show to date (whatever happened to it, anyway?)...
certainly not enough.  I'm not sure I'm going to actually write this
idea out... it just had to be released, I suppose.  Love to hear what
anyone has to think of it... or if anyone wants to give a shot at it I'd
love to see a prologue or whatever.  
Must sleep... perhaps I'll awake tomorrow and realize how idiotic this
was... or not... I don't know.
