Uhh . . . no. The original use of Evangelion in EVA was to mean "Gospel
Fighters." Not "messengers of God."
Geez... I normally only have to dust off my German dictionary for class...
The term Evangelion, according to Gainax was chosen was because it is a
German based word. The meaning of said word is "Truth-bringer." It was
also chosen because of the shortened form of the word is "Eva," a German
woman's name (English translation: "Eve". And when Eve is translated from
the Hebrew, it means "out of man.")
Grumble, grumble... it's just too damn early to be delving into
linguistics. Grumble...

I can't tell what's inside anymore,
It could be I'm alright, like before...
Black or white,
I've lost my sight,
Can't tell what's inside anymore...
Ooh, what sleep is I know I'll never know,
And all my tears that seem to drench me,
Have faded into blue...
And I wait for the time I see in my mind,
Looking long and hard at what I might find,
And I awaken from my eternal dream
All that it might seem...
My humanity has died.
A poem written by the designated pilot
of Eva Unit-00 after her third
awakening...
