I think the thing here is, just because we swear as individuals, doesn't
mean we necessarily want characters in the literature, be it books or
fanfiction, that we read to swear excessively.

Also, not everyone on this mailing list swears excessively, and many people
really don't care for swearing.

If there's a reason for a character to swear, then yes, it's fine, but
swearing for the sake of swearing isn't cool at all. It's just crass.
Excessive swearing...using more swear words in one sentence than are really
called for...is also simply crass.

Now, proper spelling....THAT is something that's necessary in fanfiction.
