Strange, this comes down to what I said a while ago (about how easy it 
is to interpret what I write in a negative fashion, but this probably 
applies to what's going on now). 
  First there was: 

Interpretation is one thing you can't force on a reader.  

  And then: 

Hmmm.  Literal interpretation of the manga, eh?

  Then: 

Is it any
wonder that it be interpreted as character bashing?

  Then it dawned upon me: 
  This has been yet another exercise in interpretation. 
  Disagree about it all you like, everybody; this entire argument is 
based upon a difference in interpretation (be it or not be 'character 
bashing'). If you wish to continue this, please do it privately; I (and 
maybe a few others) do not wish to watch two people throw it all at each 
other across the list.
