Different promise. This refers to the one in the "Secret Sauce"
story.
And it was to look after her, not marry her.

I should have asked this in better terms. When did *Ranma* *EVER* 
promise to *marry* Ukyou?

And Genma promised that Ranma would marry Ukyou when he ran off with the 
okonomiyaki cart.
