	I'm not certain, Andrew, given the title you've used, but is
it possible that the fic you're looking for is "The Youngest Goddess"?

	If so, it's by Hitomi Ichinohei, and she's got about 3 or 4 
chapters of it finished. It features the death of Genma (Yaaaaa!) by
landslide just as one of the Norns happens by. His dying request is 
that the strange gaijin woman care for his son in his stead.

	Unfortunately, the idiot had gotten Ranma cursed even EARLIER
this time around, and the goddess saw Ranma in female form. She 
assumed that the female body was Ranma's default form, and this 
resulted in Ranma being raised as a minor goddess.

	Interesting, entertaining, and a good read. I highly
recommend it, and if it IS the fic you're looking for, I will get
in touch with Hitomi (I'm a part-time pre-reader for her) and see
about getting you a copy.
