O.K., here are my 2 cents: 
Every fanfic is a self insertation. Yep! Well, almost every fanfic. 
Think about it. If someone introduces a new character, that 
character's
personality can only equal what the author's personality is. At 
least...

well i can see where this is coming from. but the way i classify a SI 
is making a character that is either a) the true 'avatar' of the 
author (i.e. no saiyan-like powers, curses, etc., having only the 
skills of the author in RL) or b) a personification of the author's 
screen name or character (for instance, my friend Levanter who uses a 
variety of two-handed swords and loves to use nukes). with that in 
mind (or at least my mind) creating a character not fitting those two 
catagories is just like how a 'real' author makes personalities for a 
story.

by 'real author' i mean someone who write professionally and gets 
paid for it. wouldnt that be nice? *zones out*
