"Yeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhaaaaaaaa!" Asuka exhaulted as her Unit 02 drove
its weapon through the Angel, neatly slicing it in half.
"Yeah! That's all you need- a clean cut!" Asuka boasted as the two
halves of the Angel separated from each other and NERV cheered.
However, the cheers were cut abruptly as the sliced up Angel
shuddered, twisted, and morphed into two separate yet identical Angels.
"What's going on?!" Asuka growled as she backed her Unit against
Shinji's Unit 01 so they would be able to cover each other easily.
"I don't know!" Shinji retorted.
"It's IMPOSSIBLE!
"I KNOW!"
After a brief moment of quarreling, Shinji and Asuka readied
themselves for the inevitable attack, but were immediately stopped by a
voice.
"Tsk, tsk. How naive you are."
The Children looked around in surprise. "Who's there?"
"Oh, sorry. How rude of me." A young boy materialized out of thin
air in front of Unit 01, and Shinji blinked in surprise. The boy
introduced himself, "I'm Nagisa Kaworu, though you would perceive me
as..."
"An Angel!?" Misato screeched in shock back in the NERV base.
"You're telling me that there's a second Angel out there?!"
Maya nodded grimly. "MAGI has confirmed the AT Field signature,
and it's the strongest one we've registered. I've never seen anything
like it before!"
"Where's the Angel?" Ritsuko snapped.
"Approximately 10 meters from Unit 01, sir."
"How?!"
Shinji's voice broke through the intercom, ""I don't believe it!
He-he just appeared out of nowhere! And it's a BOY!"
"IMPOSSIBLE!" Asuka screamed as she willed her Evangelion to
attack.
Kaworu easily intercepted the progressive knife with his AT Field,
and turned to regard the Evangelion. "Asuka, my dear. You shouldn't let
your temper get better of you..."
"SHUT UP!"
Shinji broke in. "What do you want? And how can you talk with us?
I thought Angels couldn't speak!"
Kaworu smiled at Shinji. "Oh it's not that hard. It's just that
not all Angels have proper vocal chords to speak. But anyway, I've come
to bring a proposition to you..."
Gendo stood up and spoke abruptly: "Patch me directly through to
that Angel, IMMEDIATELY!" Moments later, he was in direct contact with
Kaworu, thanks to the Evangelions' external speakers.
"If you are listening to me, this is Ikari Gendo speaking. You are
trespassing on private property and committing willingful acts of
destruction. You are therefore ordered to surrender or face the
consequences..."
Kaworu laughed, "I don't think so. You know exactly why we are
here. You've captured Adam, and we want him back. We tried to come in
peacefully, but you insisted on attacking us..."
"No, YOU attacked us first!" Asuka interrupted. Meanwhile, Misato
muttered, "Adam? No, it can't be..."
"No, we merely appeared and you fired the first shot. You can
check the previous records and you'll see that I'm telling the truth.
Like I said, you attacked without provocation. We had to defend
ourselves."
Everybody remained silent as Kaworu continued to speak in his
reasonable tone. "We tried to enter the grounds peacefully, but you
attacked us every time and killed each of our brothers. We Angels have
come to the conclusion that you wouldn't be willing to turn over Adam to
us..."
Klaxons blared throughout NERV as MAGI detected additional AT
Fields. Afterwards, it was pure chaos.
"Another AT Field detected... Correction! Make that two! No,
THREE! They've been confirmed as Angels!" Hyuga screamed while Ritsuko
and Maya tried to sedate MAGI before it went crazy.
Units 01 and 02 were forced to retreat as three plumes of water
erupted behind Israfel. Kaworu introduced each of the Angels as they
appeared, "Meet Zeruel, Matarael, and... Bardiel." He gestured
respectively to a large Angel with aluminum sheets as arms, a large
spider, and a black metallic robot that seemed familiar somehow.
Shinji blinked at Bardiel. "Waitaminute... that's an Evangelion,
isn't it?"
Kaworu nodded. "Correct. Bardiel snuck into one of your NERV bases
in North America and infected it. Bardiel now lives inside it."
"It's Unit 03, sir!" Hyuga shouted.
"That's impossible! How could an Evangelion have been possessed by
an Angel?!" Ritsuko protested.
Meanwhile, Asuka and Shinji were feeling rather afraid right now,
especially since they were surrounded by six Angels. Three-to-one ratio
against them weren't good odds. They were about to scream and flee in
terror when Bardiel hurled a cylindrical object at their feet. After
initial screaming, the Children realized that it was a...
"Baseball bat?" Shinji blinked again. Too much was going on for
him.
"That's right!" Kaworu smiled broadly. "Now, let's play ball!"
"What are you talking about?" Asuka challenged him.
"Well, like I said earlier, since our peaceful methods had failed,
and you apparently aren't willing to turn over Adam to us, we decided to
make a proposition."
"What is it?"
"We have decided to challenge you to a baseball game. The winner
will get to keep Adam, and the loser will retreat and renounce any
claims to the Angel." Kaworu smiled.
Shinji stared at the Angels in wonder; Zeruel appeared to be tossing
around an enormous baseball in air, and Bardiel was swinging around the
baseball bat with its elongated arms. And the Angel which had split
earlier now had baseball mitts in their claws.
"Um, and if we don't accept your 'proposition'...?" Asuka
inquired.
Kaworu gave the redhead a cold look and his smile vanished. "Well,
it's only a proposition. And it's the only one that we are willing to
give to you. If you reject our proposition..." Kaworu crossed his arms,
"We will have no choice but to take Adam from you by force."
Everybody blanched as Kaworu added, "And there's still more of us
on the way..."
The Angels closed in on the Evangelions as Kaworu repeated his
proposition, "We challenge you to a baseball game, and the prize will be
Adam. Reject our offer and you will have to die."
Silence ensued until Hyuga finally broke it, "How many innings?"

Author's notes:
(nervous laugh) Heh...
I was watching my local baseball team, Arizona Diamondbacks, when this
idea popped into my mind an year ago. I was slowly becoming obsessed
with Evangelion during that time. Since baseball is highly popular in
Japan; what if the Angels had challenged the Evangelions to a baseball
game over Adam?
I didn't put in much thought for a while, but this idea just refused to
go away and I had to write it down. I certainly find this concept rather
intriguing. I mean, imagine what would happen if one of the Evangelions
attempted a slide, and ended up crashing into several buldings? After
all, the game will have to take place in Tokyo-3 after all... ^_^;
However, I've decided that this is far enough. Any further and I might
ruin the comedy factor, so I won't be continuing, and leave the rest of
the story to your imagination. However, if you feel more than up to the
task of picking up where I left off and maintaining the comedy factor,
please drop me a line and let me know.
Also, note the irony in this concept: the opposing team happens to be
Angels- just like Anaheim baseball team, Angels- if not figuratively and
literally.
