I tend to agree.  However you could be pounding this "fanfic cliche"
issue a little on the hard side.  Wouldn't it be enough to point out
that there's no reason why Ukyo would be less motivated than the others
in a situation like this, if only to save Ranma from Kodachi?  

Not that a cliche is automatically a bad thing...

Anyway, if we're looking to make it slightly more humorous, what about if
Ukyo is completely unenthusiastic about being in this silly tournament
(after all, it's the fifth time this month the four of them have fought in
some contest over Ranma) _until_ they mention her shop, whereupon she
realizes the free advertising and jumps in with both feet (sort of like
Hasukawa and the play when Sumire shows up in Koko wa Greenwood).  There
have been times in both the Ranma manga and anime when it seemed to me
Ukyo's business was more important to her than Ranma's comfort or dignity.

Just a suggestion.
