A Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon fanfic,
Lesser of All the Evils
Authors' notes are on the bottom.
The usual disclaimers apply here- Sailor Moon and related characters
belongs to Naoko Takeuchi, and I sincerely mean no disrespect to her
by writing this fanfic.
NOTE #1- I'm warning you- this is not similar to fanfics I've
completed recently. While it may not be exactly regarded as true
darkfic, 'Lesser of All the Evils' certainly comes close.
I was in depressed mood when I wrote this over a few days, and
writing this one certainly didn't help improve my mood. Whenever I
felt depressed, I worked on this one. If darkfics scares you, then
don't read it. However, if you enjoy them-- well, then be my guest.
NOTE-#2- This note was just used to waste this bandwidth.
NOTE #3- Again, I'm warning you- this is not 'interesting concept'
fanfic genre I've churned out lately. This borders as darkfic, and it
may give you nightmares. Send me flames if you want, I don't care
about this one.

The greatest evil the mankind had ever known had fallen.
And all it took was a shot.
Sergeant Davies Walker lowered his sniper rifle as the fallen
evil's comrades rushed to revive their leader. Their leader would
never rise again; he made certain of that. The mankind would never be
terrorized again by this girl.
A girl?
Doubt began to creep into Davies' hardened heart. How could a
such young girl have committed all these awful crimes past these
years? She seemed so innocent and full of life.
He shook his head to clear away his misgivings. It had been
proven beyond doubt that this... *monster* was responsible for all
the attacks in Tokyo area. Now the attacks would end, and the world
would regard him as hero for what he had done.
He realized that the one called Sailor Jupiter had spotted him,
and was about to move when her comrades demanded for her help.
Reluctantly, she left to rush her leader to nearest aid. She would
never make it.
The leader of all evils, also known as Sailor Moon is now dead.

The Last (hopefully) Sailor Moon darkfic:
Lesser of All the Evils

For weeks David had attempted to track the Senshi, but were
unable to follow them. Instead, he decided to observe the results of
the assassination of Sailor Moon. What had followed caught him by
surprise.
The general population of Japan was suddenly thrown into uproar
when they found out that Sailor Moon had been shot and killed by an
unknown assassinator, who had escaped. They demanded that this madman
to be caught and brought to justice. Repeatedly, he had attempted to
contact his home country, but only static greeted him, just it had
for two weeks now. This led him to suspect that he had been
'conveniently' abandoned for some reason. Most likely, since United
States didn't want to involve itself in Japan's matters any more than
it already had. Better cut all its strings and retreat while it had
some time left, which meant that he was on his own now.
Things quickly went from bad to worse. Ever since he had
assassinated Sailor Moon, enemy had paradoxically attacked in greater
numbers and were far more successful. This didn't make any sense,
since the head of the gang had been effectively eliminated and the
gang should have fragmented and went into hiding. Quite the opposite
had occurred, almost as if they were suddenly set free.
The local Senshi was unable to keep the monsters at bay. One by
one, he watched and kept records of each senshi who were killed. The
weird guy in tuxedo was the first to bite the dust, not long after
Moon was shot. Mars and Mercury were the next, when they fell under
sheer numbers. Three days ago, Neptune and Venus were killed. Neptune
had somehow gotten trapped by nearly four dozen aliens and Venus
tried to rescue her but was crushed when a building collapsed under
her. Neptune barely survived the collapsing, but was a easy target
for the rest of monsters. Chibi-moon never made any appearance at
all.
That meant Jupiter and Uranus was still alive and kicking
somewhere. He wasn't sure about the third one, Pluto. Probably dead,
but he doubted. He sighed heavily and was about to begin drowning
himself in sorrow while drinking dozens cans of alcohol when he heard
a voice behind him.
"It was you, wasn't it?"
David turned around to face the source of the voice, "Oh, it's
only you. Sailor... Jupiter, I presume?"
Jupiter narrowed her eyes at his statement and her nostrils
flared slightly. She was having difficulty holding back her anger,
"Tell me again, did you kill her?" When she received no response, she
continued. "I know it was you- I saw you leaving right after you
murdered her. Am I right, bastard?!"
David remained silent for few moments before he finally spoke.
"My name is David Walker, not 'bastard', and why would you want to
know if I was that person who shot that evil, Sailor Moon? You've
been associated with dark side for too long, and we can no longer
tolerate your attacks on the innocent people."
"What are you talking about, bastard?"
"We've got documents to prove that you've been behind all those
unexplained occurrences of 'evil beings' which Tokyo have been
experiencing lately. You're the cause of Tokyo's misery!" David
retorted.
"Liar!" Jupiter shot back, "You're a fool here- we've been
trying to *stop* the Dark Kingdom, Black Moon Family, and the Death
Busters, and their countless minions from taking over our world!
We've sacrificed so much just to keep them at bay, Sailor Moon more
than all of us combined!"
"Why should I believe you? My government has proof that you are
associated with them. How are you going to explain what happened
during the second UFO encounter last year? Witnesses confirmed that
you were seen conferring with the enemy."
Jupiter protested, "That's not true! We were trying to convince
the Black Moon family to deflect to our side, and one of their member
were killed because of our efforts! We *almost* did it, but that
blasted Wise Man killed Safriel!"
"Likely explanation, but you can't counter-prove the testaments given
by dozens of witnesses. There's also the matter about the timely
appearance of these monsters- I find it hard to believe that it would
just be that convent for you to be right there as monsters struck,
which leads us to conclude that you were in cahoots with them."
"Cahoots?!" Jupiter sputtered, but were interrupted.
"And there's dozens more evidence. The FBI has determined that
it was 'beyond reasonable doubt' that you were involved, and was
attempting to massacre certain people by having their hearts
removed."
"But that was by diamons, not us!"
David ignored him. "After debating, the United States government
had concluded that the leader was far too dangerous to survive, and
that she would have to be terminated in beliefs that with the leader
gone, the attacks would cease. Soon, the order was issued, and signed
by the President himself. I was ordered to assassinate the leader of
the unknown clan of evil, known as Sailor moon, and ensure that--
David never got chance to finish when Jupiter went into rage and
rammed her fist into his stomach. He heard ribs cracking and knew it
was his own as pain flared. He cursed his pride as he instinctively
reacted to the attack, and his life-time training took over. He
blocked every shot Jupiter made and returned with his own. For a
moment, it seemed like that they were an equal to each other. But it
did not last. Despite her strength, Jupiter was still very very much
young and lacked experience and skill, of which David possessed both.
Feinting to the left, he quickly delivered a roundhouse kick to
Jupiter's stomach and doubled her over. He quickly delivered three
additional punches to her face before preparing to deliver a lethal
strike against her throat. The blow never came.
"URANUS WORLD SHAKING!"
David barely had chance to bring up his arms to protect himself
before an energy orb exploded against the wall near him, and was
knocked clear across the room before slamming into the opposite wall.
More cracking of his bones.
It didn't take him long to realize what happened. When the smoke
had subsided, he recognized two standing figures of Sailor Pluto and
Uranus. Uranus quickly knelt to check Jupiter's unconscious body,
before threading him again, "If you've killed her--"
Sensing her threat, he quickly leveled his colt .45 handgun at
the approaching senshi, ready to shoot to kill. "Don't come any
nearer, or I'll shoot. Don't even think about using the flashy powers
of yours- I'll blow you away before you can complete your attacks."
He warned, trying to hide his fear.
He had been lucky when he fought Jupiter, who was inexperienced.
Pluto and Uranus were different matter. They obviously had experience
as well as skill. He wasn't so sure about his odds of living. He
quickly warned off Uranus, who was about to step forward again,
"Don't move, or I'll be forced to shoot in self-defense."
"Self-defense?" Uranus sneered, "More of cold-blooded murder.
There's no way we'll let you off easy, not after you killed my
dumpling."
Pluto gestured to Uranus to stand by, and she reluctantly
complied. Jupiter began to moan, and Uranus quickly went to her side,
grateful that she was still alive.
David tried to ignore the threats of Uranus and focused upon
Pluto, who advanced slowly. He waved his gun around at the senshi,
implying a warning. Only if he could get a clear shot despite pain he
was experiencing. As if she had read his mind, Pluto stepped forward
into broad light, directly in front of David's gun reticule.
"Do you want to shoot me? Go ahead, pull the trigger." Pluto
silenced protesting Uranus, she continued, "If you think it will
help, kill me." She did not give any signs of an attempt to attack or
to protect herself.
David knew that Pluto would be instantly killed if he pulled the
trigger, and that he would easily be able to eliminate the renaming
senshi before they would react. All it would take a shot. David began
sweating rapidly, his hands shaking as he pull the trigger slowly.
Sailor Moon, with all her grace and innocence, appeared before
him, wide-eyed in surprise and shock. He squeezed his eyes shut and
tried to force himself to pull the trigger. It seemed like an
eternity for him before he finally made his decision.
"No." David lowered his gun. "No, I won't."
"Why?"
David opened his eyes slowly. Pluto was still there; there was
no sign of Sailor Moon anywhere. "I don't want to shoot. I refuse to
do it again." He hurled his weapon away in disgust. "You can do
whatever you want to do me. Go ahead, I deserve it."
Jupiter struggled to her feet with Uranus' aid and advanced
slowly. Pluto blocked her progress, and Jupiter flared with anger,
"Get out of the way, Pluto! He killed Sailor Moon cold-blooded, and
he must pay!"
Pluto remained impassive, blocking her path. Jupiter yowled in
anger and pain, "H-he shot her, damnit! HE KILLED MY BEST FRIEND!!"
She glared at David, "I'LL KILL YOU, BASTARD!!" Jupiter broke free
from Uranus and lunged forward, then collapsed in pain, sobbing. "He
killed her. Why did he have to kill her, of all the people..."
Uranus was unable to console the crying senshi, so she settled
on glaring at David. "You have absolutely no idea what you have done.
I know that it was you who killed my dumpling, and I'd love to tear
your arms and legs from your body." She growled for a moment as Pluto
uttered an order, then sighed. "As much as I want to pull your limbs
apart; I think I'd rather let you live with your misery. Enjoy your
miserable life."
Too furious to debate Pluto any further, she gently led Jupiter
out of the room, but not before she finally spoke again, to David.
Her words chilled his heart, "The Silence is coming. Thanks to you,
the world will come to the end, because there are no more talisman
holders. It does not matter that she wasn't one of the talisman
holders, she was the only person capable of preventing the Silence.
The End of Everything There Is coming, and there is nothing we can do
to stop it."
With that, Uranus left with Jupiter and her words echoed around
in David's mind. Pluto, however, remained behind and gave him
piercing glare. He recognized that kind of glare before; it was the
cold glare that told him, Thou have committed the worst sin possible,
and thou shalt burn up in the flames for eternity.'
"But I was only following my orders! I was told to--"
"Yes, I know. But in that case, you had failed in your mission;
the Death Busters are now far too powerful for only three of us to
stop. We will of course try to slow their advance, but we will only
be delaying the inevitable. If Sailor Moon was still alive?"
Pluto let David grasp her meaning and dropped a snapshot. David
picked it up. It was of a young girl, which seemed awfully familiar
to him. "Tsukino Usagi. Also known as Sailor Moon, whom you had
'eliminated'. Not only you had failed in your mission; you also
murdered an innocent young girl who only wanted a normal life."
David stared at the picture intently, not believing Pluto's
words. "Are you--?"
Pluto was gone- she had left without his realizing it. David
observed the picture intensely. There was no doubt about it. This
Usagi was Sailor Moon after all- it didn't take much for him figure
it out. But there was only one thing he still couldn't figure it out;
what went wrong?
Could it have been possible that his government had been wrong
all along? No! That wasn't possible! There were evidence to prove...
He reconsidered the few evidence he had been privy to, and realized
with horror that they all could have been easily faked. All he has
seen was a couple of snapshots of the Senshi during one of their
battles and reports from the witnesses. Had he ever seen any
discriminating evidence that proved beyond doubt that the senshi were
affiliated with these enemies?
No, there wasn't any at all. Had he been blinded into devotion
that he would have done anything for his country? The senshi weren't
even of a threat to the United States, nor this young girl, Usagi.
Did he really kill an innocent girl?
He heard the sounds of the battle outside, and realized that
Senshi must be fighting the Diamons again. He crawled over to his
window and forced himself to watch the onslaught.
The senshi had given a valiant effort, but it was not enough.
David found himself leaning against a chimney on the rooftop of
his apartment several days after witnessing the Senshi's final battle
against the Death Busters. Slowly, one by one, the remaining senshi
had fallen under the onslaught of the incoming diamons.
The end had come at last, and he knew it. Whatever it was coming
must be the Silence Uranus had been babbling about sometime ago. The
End of Everything There Is. And he had a sinking feeling that he was
at least partly responsible for it when he killed Usagi.
He gazed at the photo of Usagi again, and echoed Pluto's
statement, "If she was still alive?" Could it be possible that a
girl like her would be able to prevent the Silence from coming? Would
she be able to save everybody? He had no idea. "I'm sorry, Usagi. I
had no idea..."
Then the Silence made itself visible. David lumbered to his feet
and leaned against the wall, gripping his handgun, and awaited his
end. He knew that the odds were stacked heavily against him, and that
he would not make it. He would try anyway. He owed Usagi that much.
Besides, he was the only person still standing; all other Senshi had
perished. The Silence was coming, and he readied himself.
Gunshots echoed throughout the area, and abruptly ceased.

Author's Notes:
I don't want to know or remember how I came up with this fic. Suffice
to say that I wasn't in great of my moods in the Fall of '98 when I
was having toubles handling courses at college; fact standing that it
was my first time I had enrolled as full-time student at an
university. I wrote the majority of the fic in few days, but filled
in the few blanks recently. I didn't want this fic rotting in my HD,
casting bad infulence over the rest of my '98-99 academic season. Not
to mention my conscience.
I'd appreciate any suggestions about what to do with this fic. If you
want me to trash it, then I'll do it. If you want me to revise it...
well I'll have to think about that.
Also, this will probably be the last dark SM fanfic I'll be writing
for a long time. And most likely the worst SM fic I've wrote. Good,
at least that way I'll ensure that others won't fall as low as this one
has.
