As promised earlier today, here is my "unofficial" mallet count. I
went through every single volume of Ranma 1/2 looking for uses of
mallets, no matter WHO used them. Fanfic "tradition" seems to decree
that mallets belong to Akane, or at least to females, but the totals
at the end show that males like to use them too. Yes, Akane uses them
the most, but not in every volume, as a lot of people have come to
believe. Take a look, and I hope you enjoy.
Volume 1
None
Volume 2
Kodachi is seen holding a mallet on page 184.
Volume 3
Pages 10-15. Kodachi keeps (unsuccessfully) attacking Akane until
Akane kicks
the mallet out of her hands.
Volumes 4 - 6

Volume 7
Page 144 - an unidentified young woman comes to the dojo and clobbers
Ranma
(this is part of Happosai�s revenge on him.)
Page 159 (same story arc), Happosai hits Ranma.
Page 160 - Genma and Soun use mallets on Happosai.
Page 171 - Soun appears in full armor, carrying a bow and a mallet.
Sadly, he
uses neither.

Happosai mallets Ranma.
Volume 11
Page 114, hypnosis mushroom arc. Kasumi HANDS Akane a mallet to use
as
protection since she and Ranma will be alone for the evening. Up
until this
point, you can see that Akane has not touched a mallet. Can we blame
the
whole mess on Kasumi? Plus, where DID she get that mallet?
Page 118. Evidently, Akane missed on her first attempt, since the
mallet is
buried in the floor and she�s aiming an arrow at Ranma, who appears to
be
undamaged.
Page 122. This time Akane succeeded.
Page 126. She got him again.
Page 180. End of super soba arc. Ranma is gloating about beating
Akane, and
she�s creeping up behind him with the mallet.
Volume 12
Page 142 (waterproof soap arc). Akane hits Ranma.
Page 171, she hits him again.
Volume 13
Page 22 (weakness moxibustion arc). Akane attempts to mallet Happosai
but
flattens his ironing board instead.
Page 27. Gosunkuji uses his little voodoo mallet to hit Ranma.
Page 47. Ranma hits Happosai.
Page 119. Ukyo hits Ryoga (to make him quiet down).

Page 161. Ranma uses a mallet on Ryoga

Page 14. Kuno mallets Ranma.
Page 23. Ranma fantasizes about malleting Kuno.

She keeps missing.
Page 144. Akane tries a small mallet this time. She misses Ranma
again.

Page 11. Ranma and Soun both mallet Taro.
Page 86. Kodachi tries to mallet Akane, who simply stops it with both
hands.
Volume 33
Page 47. Akane hits Ranma.
Page 98. Ranma attempts to mallet Mousse, who shatters the mallet
with his
fist.
Page 129. Ranma mallets a horse. Don�t ask.
Volume 34
Pages 27, 31, 32, 33, 77, 171 and 174 - all Akane hits on Ranma. This
is the
largest in any volume. Others in this volume:
Page 124. Genma Panda tries to mallet Nodoka, instead, Soun mallets
him.
Page 154. Akane is sleeping at her desk, and Miss Hinako tries to
mallet her.
Akane, without waking up, takes the mallet from Miss Hinako and hits
her.
Volume 35
Page 12. Ranma mallets his double.
Page 40. Akane mallets Ranma�s double.
Page 172. Akane mallets Ranma. Interestingly, she does this while
kicking
Kodachi.
Page 173. Akane waves the mallet at Ranma, unsuccessfully.
Volume 36
Page 88. Genma tries to mallet Ranma, and misses.
Volume 37 and 38
None
Final tallies?
Akane - 28 uses (hits and misses), 18 of which are actual hits on
Ranma. I didn�t count misses, just hits.

Four minor characters - 1 each
Kasumi - 1, and she�s the only character not to actually USE the
mallet, she
merely gave it to her sister, starting a chain of events that went
from the manga
to fanfic history.
