Note:  This essay does not attempt to outline exactly what comprises a "good" 
or a "bad" work of fiction of this sort.  I merely sought to defend accuracy 
in works that lean heavily on military-oriented themes.  In my experience,
anti-militarists, like Pugh, lash out irrationally and irresponsibly against
those who strive for military accuracy.  Their reactions tend to draw out of 
a deeply-held enmity for the armed services.  That concerns me greatly
considering I have chosen to embark on a career as a Navy officer.  Moreover,
it also contributes to the sort of useless C&C that I sometimes get on
my fanfics.  I don't post my fanfics here to read through the latest
gripe with my outlook on the world; I want feedback on my style and in some
cases the accuracy and appropiateness of specific military subjects.

IMHO, I find that fanfiction with a distinct military feel appeals to me 
more than your run of the mill Ranma or Sailor Moon fic.  That, however, is 
my opinion; I do not presume to impose it on anyone.
