forcing him out of his normal behavior first.

A major rule of thumb for characterization (in my mind, anyway) is that
as long as the characters keep encountering the same situations, 

they'll

keep reacting in the same ways. Not that I don't think Ranma can change
the way he acts -- but IMO there has to be some reason *why* he decided
to do so at this point when he never had during 38 volumes of the
series. We don't need a major exposition on this, but I do think we 

need

some idea of what made him change.

How about the fact that all this bullshit happened at the same time?  I 
don't think he's had to handle everything at the same time before.  
Besides, all those things add up.  To be faced with the same junk day 
after day(not withstanding the special cases that are shown in the 
manga, which I feel Ranma's almost relieved to have happen sometimes), 
for almost or over a year, then to have it all happen at the same time, 
when you can't get away from it(Remember, Nodoka's there).  Isn't that 
reason enough?  Hell, I'd snap too.
