Not one that makes a whole lot of sense, IMO... a lot of other
characters use mallets, including some with no martial arts training at
all.

The biggest problem I have with this story (other than the ultra-bland
characterizations) is that there's very little conflict. About the only
hint of it is at the end where it's hinted that Soun might not want
Akane joining the team -- and I doubt that's going to be enough to carry
the story. We desperately need a super-villain or someone to come in and
start actively plotting against our heroes.
